Not enough space to share our accolades for our two day stay here - the "grand finale" of our two weeks on the Garden Route. Great location. Met in the front parking lot by Nic, who snagged our big bags and graciously showed us around this beautiful hotel - so many things to see, including paintings and decor that lend a very tasteful "retro vibe". Spacious, quiet suite with a large private patio. Any room service requests arrived almost before the phone was put down - very impressive! Enjoyed Great breakfasts and two wonderful dinners. Wish we could have stayed longer - would have checked out the spa!

My greatest SA hotel memories used to be the glory days of the The Royal in Durban (breakfast on the top floor, dinner in the palm court). But I have a new favourite! OK - the name is awful: a sort of portmanteau of pretentiousness. ("With nothing demure or submissive in its nature the number 5 is a risk taker and adventurer..." Pass the sick bag, Alice.) The location is great, though, down in the heart of Summerstrand, and it's a breathtaking building - a sort of monument to Art Deco that succeeds in incorporating all the loveliest aspects of the style without coming across as a pastiche. This is helped by the magical art collection. While we were standing at reception waiting to check in I idly thought, "Wow, they've done a good job with that poster; it looks just like a Kentridge." It is, of course, an actual Kentridge, and you'll find similar art treasures scattered all over the hotel. That's part of the joy of this place; it feels rather like walking through a rich friend's house; simultaneously fancy and homely (shelves of good books), with furniture you love but know you would never be able to afford. Our room was beautiful: huge, spotlessly clean, with a dizzying array of storage space. (On the day we checked out I discovered an entire wardrobe I hadn't identified as a wardrobe, assuming its door was just artsy panelling.) Lighting, bed linen and towels are all top quality. I slept very well indeed. If, like me, you are a fussy sleeper, you're gonna love these beds. Staff are brilliant: friendly, confident, helpful, stylish and ambassadorial, the level of professionalism they demonstrate would not be out of place in London or Toronto. I mean, they are GOOD. From the great welcome on reception to the cheerful service at breakfast, I can't fault it. Small but well-equipped gym upstairs (roasting hot but cools down quickly once you put the AC on), and a nice pool. The only meal we had there was breakfast, excellent. Yep, I'll be back.

Awesome decor, huge rooms, divine beds and pillows and a real feel of luxury and privacy. The artwork and furniture is a joy to behold! Service was a bit less than perfect on this last trip, but I'd still highly recommend the hotel.

This is a 'must stay' hotel when in PE. The hotel is beautiful and in a lovely location. The food is also very good but the art and the furniture just makes you want go and try every chair and settee in the hotel. The rooms are amazing and beautifully equipped. The lovely staff, are slightly disorganised, sadly and are not yet to the standard you would expect in this type of hotel. But don't be put off by that comment it's actually worth travelling to PE just to stay here!

This hotel is simply gorgeous, and no art lover staying in the area should miss this. The rooms are delightful. The only reason I gave a Very Good rather than an Excellent was that it's a little let down by the staff, who are friendly, willing, but seem a bit disorganised. Don't let that put you off. The food is very good and well presented. The hotel is an easy walk from the beach and the Boardwalk. We used a tour driver to go further field. We used Bay Tours +27 79 417 8051. He was excellent and was booked through the hotel

A very chic hotel, unfortunately we were just overnighting on this occasion but I would definitely return. The service was fabulous, we got a tour of the hotel on arrival, the wine cellar for private functions looks amazing, there is a theatre room (if you're form Australia then the seats are just like Gold Class), the rooms are very spacious and located in a nice area of PE. I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone staying in PE!

The hotel was amazing. We enjoyed staying in the lovely suite and all the food was excellent including the prompt room service. Great attention to detail with the food and decor. We thoroughly enjoyed the stay and the lovely cinema dinner set up for us. Will definitely visit this property again and will definitely recommend it to others.

We stayed one night on our way to the Garden Route. Another time we will definitely stay longer. This is a very special hotel. Beautiful rooms, wonderful service, and first class delicious food. The Artdeco furnishings and the modern art collection, that features throughout the hotel, are stunning.

This is a lovely hotel done to a very high standard! Can not fault it! The breakfast is very good too and the staff are very friendly. Great location and if I go back to Port Elizabeth this is where I will stay!

Beautiful and stylish boutique hotel. The best thing about Port Elizabeth by a long shot! Wonderful decor, very spacious and a good base for the airport and very helpful staff. It’s like being on a film set!
