I chose this hotel due to its proximity to my friend's flat , It suited me fine as I was just needing bed and breakfast . The bedroom was adequate and the bathroom bright, clean and modern ( though why do you have to climb into so many German showers ?) The plumbing was occasionally noisy . Best feature was the breakfast ; plenty of choice , warm and cold , and plenty of fruit . Connections to town can be a bit dodgy : I waited 25 minutes for a bus that allegedly came every ten minutes .
My twin brother Stephen and I had been in Cologne for the week to visit the great brewpubs and Christmas markets in that vibrant city and to finish off our holiday we were staying in Dusseldorf for three days and our choice of hotel namely Kastens Hotel could not have been a better choice. Greeted warmly by a very pleasant receptionist who spoke great English,we were allocated a beautiful room on the top floor, the room was big,2 big single beds which were super comfortable,a flat screen TV ,lots of storage space,a very good and powerful shower in a spotlessly clean bathroom complete with shower gels and soaps, hair dryer and a lovely light decorative scheme,as a great bonus the free wi fi was quick and came in very handy. The breakfast here was superb with a great mix of hot and cold choices on offer in a superb looking dining room, hot and cold drinks with the coffee being particularly delicious,as we were here over the Christmas period Germany's Christmas cake Stollen was on offer not just at breakfast but all day at the all day free tea and coffee facilities in the reception area, this was the first time I've tried Stollen which was totally delicious. We really enjoyed our three days in here and when we are back in Dusseldorf next year we are staying in no other hotel. The Kastens Hotel is really easy to locate on Juergensplatz ,we arrived from Cologne to Dusseldorf by train and from the main Hauptbahnhof we jumped tram number 708 to stop Polizeiprasidium which drops you off facing the hotel. The location could not be better,it's an easy short walk to the Dusseldorf Prominade and the Altstadt ( Old Town ). This is a great hotel and if your planning a holiday to Dusseldorf one I highly recommend you stay in as it's such a nice hotel.
This is not an expensive hotel, but for what we paid, I was happy. It's a bit dated, but the rooms were clean. The beds weren't incredibly comfortable, but they were fine. The staff were super friendly and helpful, and the breakfast was actually darned good. The location is fun - there's a lot going on in the neighborhood, and it's a very short walk to the gorgeous promenade on the river. There is a lobby bar, but nobody was tending it - though to be fair, I also didn't ask. I wouldn't want to spend a week here, but for a night or two it was fine and I'd go back.
The best thing about this hotel is its location. Some of the reception staff were quite rude and abrupt. The room itself was very basic. The weather was very hot when we were there; the small provided fan was faulty and dangerous. We asked for a replacement but none was provided. The curtains were inadequate to keep out the sun and the light in the mornings. This is not a four stat hotel, two to three at most. The previous review about 'Fawlty Towers without the humour' is spot on.
This hotel has seen its glory days for a long time ago. The rooms are dirty with big stains on the carpet floor, actually so bad that i didint want to go with out socks on the floor. There is no kind of fan or air conditioning on the room so the rooms are really warm.. For me this is a 1-2 star hotel instead of a 4 star as they say. The location of the hotel is ok however.
Don't expect to much of this hotel. The arrival was nice, offering a welcome drink and we could go earlier to our room (around 11:00). The rooms are not clean, found enough cookies, papers etc on the floors. Bathroom was old and full of chalk. Beds were clean and very comfortable. It was really hot in the room, even with the windows open we sweat a lot. Breakfast is untill 11:00. We arrived at 10:15 and there was no bread and they would not make any new ones! In general the hotel is decent but pay not more than 30,- a person!!
We arrived in sweltering heat. The receptionist was not at all welcoming bordering on rude. We tried to find out about parking. She told us it was free but it wasn't. It's free at weekends. After some research on foot we found parking at Stadttor for 13 euros a day. I think Kastens should be more helpful re parking and be more honest on their website. Maybe you'd choose a different hotel if parking was included in the price or easier. Apart from her other staff were nice. The room has no A/C and the fan is tiny. We slept with all our windows open. It is a quiet street and we slept really well. I'd requested a quiet room so we got the 5th floor at the back of the hotel. There are good places to eat close by. Decor is quirky ! Our room was on the dull side but clean. We really like Loretto St close by. It is an easy walk to Hafen & Altstadt. The shower was grea, they provide free toiletries and towels are changed daily. The breakfast very good and there is free tea and coffee in the lobby. All in all a good stay.
The hotel is very dated & doesn't look very appealing on entering & then the girl on the desk was very uninterested & very unhelpful ! As we arrived quite late we had a quick look at the breakfast area to be shouted at by one of the other staff to leave ! The lift is painfully slow & the room was quite poor ! The small Fridge barely worked ~The small Fan didn't work & the curtains were hanging off among other things ~ We asked again to an uninterested staff member for them to be fixed but nothing was done in the 6 days we were there ! Although we didn't really ask much from the staff everything we did ask was met with a roll of the eyes & very stern replies ! We did however have a nice time in Dusseldorf but we wouldn't ever set foot in this dive again ! Reminiscent of Fawlty Towers customer service but without the laughs
I have seen better places: rooms were ok, but the only lift was annoyingly slow, the reception was just adequate and breakfast was ok but nothing special. I think as a 4-star hotel it is overrated, more like a 3-star in my view
Working staff are not smile. Rooms Fine. Breakfast is good. 4 star hotel it could be better. No parkıng in this hotel.cleaning is so so. Everything is could be better . Maybe you can try this hotel.........
