We have just returned from a week’s relaxation at this excellent hotel. We chose it mainly because of the beautiful photographs of clear seas and the setting of the hotel right on the beach and we were certainly not disappointed. The journey from the airport took about an hour along very windy roads but the views were spectacular so the time soon passed. The hotel feels lovely & light as you enter, with plenty of comfortable seating. We arrived quite early but our room was soon ready for us. We had requested a quiet room with full sea view and room 210 fulfilled both requests admirably. The room was well equipped and the bed extremely comfortable - I slept better than I had for months. People mentioned the pillows & they are right - excellent. The bathroom provided a really good sized bath with good power shower over & there were plenty of nice toiletries. The view from our balcony was perfect, we could see the whole bay, watch the boats going into the marina and the small cruise boats docking on the quayside. The beach suited us really well, with plenty of sun beds and an endless supply of free towels. The beach is fine gravel, so beach shoes are recommended. The beach shelves steeply so it’s soon deep enough to swim and the sea is very calm so you can do proper swimming rather than larking about in the waves! It’s also extremely clear and there are plenty of fish to look at so take your snorkel. There’s also a large outdoor pool and a very nice indoor pool but we didn’t try these. They never seemed to be very busy. The food is all buffet style and is very well presented with plenty to suit even the fussiest of eaters. We found we were spoilt for choice both at breakfast and dinner and everything was fresh and tasty. I loved the fish in particular, always a choice of several, beautifully prepared and cooked. Also notable was the excellent selection of cheeses to finish the meal. We enjoyed a cocktail in the evenings and wine with dinner and the prices were extremely reasonable. The outside restaurant terrace is delightful but you have to arrive in good time to get one of the tables which are supposedly not reservable.....some people seemed to manage to occupy the same outside table every evening, with their wine waiting for them. Not sure how they managed that!! It was idyllic sitting out there in the warm evening sunshine, watching the sea. Slano is hardly a hive of activity, with just a few shops including a very small but very well stocked supermarket right opposite the hotel,a couple of souvenir shops, a chemist & several Bars & restaurants. It’s possible to rent a car, bike or boat and there’s a bus to Dubrovnik from just outside the hotel. We did nothing except enjoy the beach and sea and the food which is exactly what we’d planned to do. It was a really wonderful week and we will certainly go back again. Thank you to all the staff for helping to make the holiday so special.
We had a two week stay here through Jet2 Holidays. All their arrangements went extremely well, including airport transfers. A really nice hotel, very modern and bright. We were on half board and took breakfast and dinner. Both meals were buffet style, but what a buffet! We defy anyone not to find something to their taste from the huge selection. The staff, particularly the restaurant staff, were all really friendly and so attentive (you almost had to hold onto your plate otherwise it was whipped away!). While we noticed some 'repeats' of dishes on a weekly cycle, there was enough choice to always have a varied meal. Huge selections of bread, cheeses, meats (hot and cold), salads, vegetables, fresh fruits and home made desserts. The (small pebble) beach is large with direct access to the sea and loads of sunbeds and fresh towels. In addition, there is a really large outdoor pool and a large indoor pool, both with salt water. They were both chilly to get into at first, but great once you were acclimatised. There was some (gentle) musical entertainment most nights and a local Dalmatian folk group once each week. We went for a quiet 'chill out' holiday and the Admiral Grand is great for that. We would very much like to return sometime.
Just one qualification - this is "holiday hotel" five stars and not a Savoy / Ritz five stars. However, the Admiral fully deserves the excellent reviews. We spent 10 days there and have zero complaints. Room comfortable, facilities excellent and buffet breakfasts and dinners always enjoyable. Waiting staff in constant attendance and chefs on the prowl to ensure food is always fresh. Lunch and drinks prices are dearer than in the village but slightly less than at home. Dubrovnik Old Town is worth a visit, but buses are chronically overcrowded.
Just got back from a week at the Admiral and we had an amazing time. On first entry the first thing we noticed was how open and bright the lobby is and how helpful the staff were. Our room was one of the nicest I have stayed in and the sea view room was phenomenal, overlooking the bay. Breakfast and dinner were buffet style and had a great range of food to fulfil the palate of even the fussiest of eaters. The pebble beach is gorgeous and literally couldn't be closer to the hotel with pedal boats and kayaks available to hire. A bus is available from the doorstep of the hotel to Dubrovnik bus station which takes 40 minutes and costs 23kn (£2.80) and a 10 minute local bus from there takes you to the old town for 12kn (£1.45). Travel adaptors are available at reception if, like us, you forget one. Overall a very pleasant experience and would highly recommend it to anyone wanting a relaxing hotel, but with the opportunity for a bit of adventure and sightseeing too.
2nd visit and it just gets better. Visited 2 years ago and fell in love with the place. For health reasons could not make return until May this year and it just got better. Staff so helpful and accomodated all our needs asked for a lovley sea view room and wow what a view. Rooms very spacious , lots of hanging wardbrobe space, all the usual except no kettles. Bathroom full size bath and over showerand robes and slippers provided . Food was better than last time excellent choice and 5 star service. Eating outside under cover from resturant was lovley, views amazing and a stone throw away from the beach. Sun terraces was well equiped with relaxing cane furniture, lots of eating and relaxing facilities, fab pool and an even better indoor pool. Had a wonderful massage at a very reasonable price for a 5 star hotel. Everything about this hotel is first class and well worth 5 stars. Slano is a very beautiful quite bay only 40 mins from Dubrovnik which is a must to visit. The buses stop right outside the hotel and run every few hours at a cost of ony 46 kunas return less than £5.00. This place is not for those expecting night life and discos go to Spain if thst what you want. Croatia in my opinion is the best vacation of anywhere in Europe and I go as far as saying beats the Carribean for clear waters and views - yes the beaches are rocky and shingle but that what you get in Croatia so unless you want white powder beaches not worth going any further than Croatia. Country safe very little crime, hospitality wont get any better anywhere else and wonderful sailing and oportunities to visit other islands. Lopud is the only real sandy beach around the area and that is a 50 minute ferry ride away from Dubrovnik. It is well worth a day trip there and can easily be done on your own from Gruz Harbour near the bus terminus in Dubrovnik. Slano has not long opened a new marine where there are lots of facilites and a lovley spot to people watch. There is not a lot to do here, having said that if you like walking pefect and in the village are a few restuarants, bars, chemist, supermaket ,churches fab beaches and pedlos and jet skis to hire. I will never get tired of this gem of a place a lovley get away from it all resort. Cant wait for next year when I return with husband as came with daughter this time and she also loved the spot and hotel. Her first visit to Croatia and like me loves it. To sum it all up PERFECT in every way. Dosent get any better. Thank you all the staff who made ths a memorable holiday
Hi Just came back from 11 days at grand Admiral. The room was very nice and the sea view from the balcony was great. If you like spending the day relaxing on the beach then this is a great hotel. The only complaints I have was the pillow that it was too hard, and the dinner selection was big but had no taste, was away about the same as was the appetizer and desserts. When you sit at the beach or pool no one comes around to ask if you would like a drink as you would expect at a 5 star . Seen most bartenders standing at the bar with nothing to do. And last is no friendly greeting and no smiles in the Restaurant . One more thing is the balcony furniture can be better with some cushions on the chairs. Also the best person and about the only one who smiles was Mario who served drinks in the Restaurant
We have just returned from another week at this lovely hotel in the quiet sleepy village of Slano. We have a fantastic family room, 254, which was huge with beautiful views across the bay. Very quiet as well compared to the room we had last year. The weather was fantastic all week and the hotel itself started off busy as there was a wedding on, but was quieter by the end of the week. The food was ok, a bit repetitive which we commented on last year, and I still think a bottle of water, or water dispenser in the lobby would go down well. The drinks dispenser at breakfast needs sorting out. Sometimes the 'juice' was very watery. We also think glasses should not be allowed around the pool, not when you have children running barefoot. We heard a couple of breakages over the week. Niggles out the way the hotel and location is truly stunning. The staff attentive and you can enjoy a relaxing holiday here. Beach shoes are still advisable to swim in the sea which is so warm and full of fish which is great for snorkelling. The outdoor pool was warmer later in the day. We have come back relaxed and were sad to leave. Dubrovnik is well worth a trip to. We booked a private taxi , purely because the road to Dubrovnik is very winding and high up with sheer cliff drops along the route. There is a bus there as well, but having a taxi meant we could ask him to slow down or pull over if needed to take photos of the stunning scenery. Pretty expensive though at roughly £50 each way. We will come back one day. Thanks again for the lovely holiday.
Amazing hotel, very modern, luxurious and spotlessly clean. Location in Slano is superb, small selection of shops, bars and lovely peaceful walks on your doorstep. The drive from the airport is beautiful, along the coast road all the way. We were upgraded to a full sea view on the second floor and the view was stunning. Beach is gravel rather than sand so take water shoes if you can as it's quite painful to walk on! Loads of different areas for sunbathing or just chilling on lovely comfy chairs in the shade. Food very good, breakfast especially so. Bus to Dubrovnik good value and very convenient. It is quiet in the evenings so maybe not the place for those seeking lots of entertainment but for a totally relaxing week it is perfect. We never normally return to the same place twice as there is so much of the world to see but would not hesitate to go back to this hotel it was that good! Only slight gripe was the bed, way too firm for my poor back and the pillow was awful but that's just down to personal preference, other reviewers have said they loved the beds!
This is a very relaxing hotel in a small village. The staff are very friendly and welcoming. The rooms and public areas are kept spotlessly clean. The hotel has its own private beach with plenty of sunbeds for all guests. It also has a great pool, I would guess it is 25 metres long, so plenty of room to swim. The views from the hotel are superb; either overlooking the bay or the mountains. So far, so good you might say. There are some areas where i think the hotel could improve. The buffet meals were never quite hot enough and, by the time you served yourself and returned to your table, the food was often cold. The restaurant manager was very keen for us to be satisfied and stated that she could arrange for food to be cooked fresh for us if it was cold. However, We wanted to eat together so did not take her up on the offer. I am guessing that there are other restaurants available in the hotel during high-season, so this may not be a problem for all guests. I think the drinks at the bar are a bit over-priced too. We paid approx £14 for two single gin and tonics, which came as a surprise. If they had been doubles, it would have been a fair price and I know it is a five-star hotel, but wasn't expecting the prices to be quite as high as they are. Our overall experience was very good. I would recommend it to other holiday makers, but bear in mind the small improvement points.
The hotel and location is amazing, and the people are fantastic, So relaxing and laid back,,2 weeks of fantastic food, service, and total chill out, Our second visit and we will be back soon, We have made some wonderful friends and the bay is so relaxing and amazing.
