My experience at this hotel; Fairfield Inn downtown Columbia, SC was unforgettably draining, and here is my overall synopsis of the situation. To begin, the receptionists at the front desk charged an unreasonable price for an extension for only single night. I extended my stay for one extra night than original travel plan that I booked through Orbitz. So, I processed the payment at the front desk, and they charged me almost triple the price than the Orbitz rate, but still I paid it anyway. However, although I paid an overpriced extension rate at the front desk, their "new employee/newcomer" checked me out and put my luggage into the lobby, so I didn't have my room anymore when I returned from my business dinner! The front desk told me that I can spend the night in the lobby because they gave my room to somebody else. Also made me pay an additional fee to book another room (Keep in mind I only needed to stay for another 5/6 hours before my early flight). I ended up paying more than triple of Orbitz rate at the front desk. They told me one of payments will be refunded, but the biggest problem here is not the payments, but the staff's attitude towards the situation. They caused a major inconvenience to me, but the management showed no remorse at all, this was a very unprofessional showing of them. I will not be returning to this hotel ever again, and I highly recommend to reconsider staying at this hotel if you don't wish for a stressful experience.
Clean hotel close to the University. Friendly staff and comfy rooms. Free breakfast was ok.
Nice convenience to downtown and interstate. Noisy street traffic. Next to Huber Rd which starts traffic before 6:00 AM
Staff was super nice and check in was easy. We were out in a handicap room which I felt guilty for taking away from someone who might actually needed it. The room was barely clean; floor in bathroom was mopped but possibly with dirty water, slight musty smell, the bed sheets did not feel clean, and there was a flying insect in the room. The very busy street was right outside our window and traffic could be heard at all times. I felt like we paid too much for a mediocre room.
I would stay here again. It was clean, and the staff was friendly. There was nothing that made me question the hotel during the stay.
Property was nice and the staff was very friendly and efficient.
I loved that it was close to everything , loved the service from all staff.
We really enjoyed our stay this past weekend. The staff was friendly and helpful, our room was clean and the breakfast was hot and plentiful. The location was ideal for what we had planned in Columbia.
Lots of little freebies like breakfast. No bar (sigh) but that is HI Express
Locatioin. General good quality. No problems at all.
Friendly, helpful staff. Easy and free parking, room was clean and the bed was soooo comfortable. We walked to dinner and to the Colonial Center. It was about a little over a mile each way but weather was good and we like to walk. Would stay there again.
Overall, it was a nice place to stay and in a good location. The only thing I didn't like was that they were doing some sort of construction that I wasn't made aware of before booking and my window had some sort of plastic wrap that you couldn't see through over it.
Convenient location to downtown Columbia, and the friendliest hotel staff you'll ever meet!
During our one night stay we're sadly noticed, that our room lacks of simple things, such as no outlets nor cellphone charging ports around both of night stands!?!?! Had to plug all of our devices all over the room. Feels like back in 90s'.. or even 80s'...
When I booked the hotel I had looked for a long time to find a smoking room in the area. The room was booked as a smoking room and upon arrival the hotel was 100% smoke free. Also after booking I realized the check in wasn't until 3, I called to see if I could check in early and they said no problem I could check in at 1:00. THe desk clerk was not very helpful once we arrived, seemed extremely bothered to help us with the early check in.
The rooms and service were great we weren’t very needy but were well taken care of
Overall nice hotel. Location convient a little noisy at night outside . Welcoming, and clean. Ice machine wasn't working on the 4th floor.
Located on a 4 lane BUSY highway, that seems to have heavy traffic deep into the night. The facility itself is spotless and new. The ground immaculate. But if your room is on the backside next to the 4 lane roadway, forget about getting a good nights sleep. Constant heavy loud noises woke us up until the very wee hours of the morning. We overslept a bit because our nights sleep was constantly interrupted. The breakfast was excellent with a decent variety of food choices, fresh fruits and breads.
Got a great suite with a whirlpool tub. I was expecting an average room but quite the surprise when I got a suite with the tub, huge bathroom and shower and separate bedroom. Staff was great and free happy hour and breakfast was included.
