A friend and I stayed at the Tryp for two nights in December to visit the Christmas markets and found it a perfect base for our stay. The location is ideal, especially if, like us, you arrive by train. The hotel is less than a five minute walk from the main station but ser back enough from the Main Street that you don’t get any noise from the trains. The staff were friendly and helpful at all times, and our twin room, which faced the courtyard at the back of the hotel, was clean, quiet and a good size. Yes the room did look a little dated, with ‘wicker style’ seating, but it was clean, well appointed and had lovely touches including Christmas chocolates left on our pillows each day. We didn’t eat breakfast at the hotel so I can’t comment on that but for the reasonable price we paid this was a great base for a stay in Cologne. Walking distance from all the attractions and in a quiet and safe location.
Good hotel close to everywhere you need to be. Hotel could do with a little modernisation although very clean and good service Taxi from airport was €35 euros and same on way back although you can get train if preferred. Friendly people and lovely city!
Top hotel ! Excellent and friendly staff, even the polishing lady on the second floor. We surely come back. See out review on booking.com too.
Good location, no on site parking for our vehicle as it was ‘too large’. Parking 5minutes away 36 euros for two nights parking. Interior of the hotel was somewhat dated and the rooms could do with a refurbishment. Pillows were too soft - we needed two of them. Our room - 311 was very quiet - overlooked the rear of the hotel, which were gardens. The breakfast was delicious, but the dining room was far too small - we had quite a wait for a table the first morning when we arrived about 10 ish. (Breakfast is served from 6.30 - 12 noon and this is probably the reason why!!!) The staff were very friendly and spoke very good English The hotel was very expensive for what it was - presumably because of the location.
Friendly staff Room is old and very expensive for the price I paid Breakfast was really good and great choice I was surprised
The hotel itself was fine and had a actually good location. My problems just started after checking out and realizing that even though i payed my booking on arrival they also charged on the credit card that i used to book. after two months that I stayed there, several emails and phone calls to the hotel reception, I already got a verbal confirmation of a refund but havent seen any money so far just excuses. Apparently someone double booked me and there is no one is this company who can fix my problem. Just destroyed my experience. Not coming back
Cologne is a city full of culture... and night-life. I slept two nights in this hotel. First one was perfect, but second one was a nightmare. From 4am to 5am some drunk hosts started to make a huge noise on our hall. I don't understand how they let people to go inside in this condition, even when they are clients. I went down and the manager changed me to another room. He also offered me breakfast for free for the next morning. I appreciated the kindness of the hotel and his workers, but, as imagined, I won't have a good memory of this hotel.
After reading some of the reviews, we were pleasantly surprised, knowing that many North Americans have American expectations. The hotel was welcoming, quiet and efficient. Like most European hotels, the room was not large, but it was comfortable and had enough space for two people. When we asked for an additional blanket, thinking we might get cold in the night, we were given 2. The bed was comfortable and the location was great, within steps of the bahnhoff (train station). Some of the reviews said the hotel room was "tired", but we found it to be quite OK. The washroom was clean and everything worked. Our parking spot was tight, but not impossible. We would stay there again.
This hotel is old, the rooms and furnishings are old and small. The location is the thing going for this hotel. The staff were very friendly
To write a review about this hotel is challenging as it has good location close Cologne main railway station, on a side street so you don't hear the trains. But you can hear drunken people(not hotels fault) on the street, somehow windows didn't block that much on the 1st floor. So location is convenient when you are travelling by train with a luggage or arrive by plain and take commuter train to downtown. It is located other side than Cathedral so you need to walk through station at the evening. It is perfectly safe, but not very pleasant walk. As we arrived, the staff welcomed us warmly and were able to give us a room already, which was a nice surprise. Generally all staff we encountered, they were excellent, the only 5 star thing at hotel. Our room was worn out, meaning that some tiles at bathroom were broken and carpet in the room has had it share of travellers and different weather types. If you plan to stay at this hotel at summer, please note that rooms don't have an air-condition. There was a fan to give some ventilation. Bathroom was ok, new shower curtain and basic amenities.
