Husband and I, along with a toddler stayed here on New Year Eve on our way back to Brisbane. The room's deco did not change at all from 2010 when we first stayed there. We requested a travel cot but we were told it's not ready in the room. By the time we arrived housekeeping was setting it up but when I saw the piece of foam as the mattress I nearly throw up as it looked very dirty and black. Everything was sufficient for the night, although a lot of other imperfections that other reviewers mentioned were also presented. Didn't really matter as it was only for one night. The unfortunate thing was I had to work that night so will require wifi but it only had limited access. I was going to call reception but didn't know what number to call. Normally you would have a booklet that shows you what number to dial if you want a certain service however I was unable to locate this information. It wasn't until I read some of the reviews from this site that I realise you have to ask for wifi or pay for it. For a hotel chain as famous as Novetel complementary wifi is a given, perhaps I was asking too much. On the upside restaurant and hotel staff were extremely helpful. Would definitely seek other accommodation if we ever stop at Coffs again.
This was a quick last minute booking for 1 nights accomodation due to an error with our other booking for the rest of the week - un/fortunately, this accomodation turned out to be the better of our two stays. The room was huge and well equipped - full bath, kitchen, king bed, sitting and lounge, balcony that spanned the whole unit. We did not have time to venture around the check out the many things on offer at the resort (pools, tennis, golf, beach access, access to health and beauty services) but looked to be something for everyone. Everything was clean and easy to access. We were disappointed that we had to leave, especially when we checked in (a little further down the road) to our next accomodation.
Staying at the Novotel hotel was a good decision, as the amenities around the hotel is excellent. Amenities include swimming pools, tennis courts, basketball court, golf course, seaway, laser clay shooting, games room, and spa sauna. The Big Banana is just 850 metres away and beach is just 500 metres away. The rooms are clean, and if possible get the Hillside side as it's more scenic. A great place for teenage families.
I'm noticing a few less than stellar reviews which surprises me. The outdoor corridors to the rooms had a fair bit of water in them but it had been raining steadily all day and for almost the entire preceding week. The room itself was spacious and the bed very comfortable. I have stayed in three different properties in Coffs Harbour and it was by far the best! The internet was a bit slow and NOT complimentary but, I was able to contact friends back in Canada so it did the trick. If I ever get back to Coffs Harbour I will definitely head back to Pacific Bay Resort - it is right down the road from the Big Banana and a just short drive from town.
Where do I start? Maybe the indifferent customer service or the staff versus guest fighting at breakfast? What about the peach coloured decor or the (not fixed) air conditioning water leak that loudly dripped every night disturbing my sleep, despite being reported several times and soaking the carpet? Well I could mention the saggy old mattress or loose tiles and smelly room but that’s going way too far! It’s a great location though, so that’s something.
The best thing going for this hotel is the location. Stunning beach and mountains nearby and beautiful natural landscaped surrounds - but that's about it. Staff and service were good, but the rooms are old a dated with original fittings and nothing looks to have been re-furbed since this hotel was built in circa 1990. Bathroom tiles were mouldy and chipped. Air-conditioning kept switching off, and no hot water!!. The less said, the better.
Quiet and comfortable probably best sums up the five nights we spent here. Our room was spacious with a very comfortable bed. We made good use of the pools and the gym ,which is actually pretty well equipped and most of the equipment works. The main gripe is that there is no wifi in the rooms. There is paid wifi in rooms, but this wasn't straight forward to sign up for and wasn't the most reliable in any event. I travel in many country areas for work and even in quite small regional centres, there is wifi provided as part of the room cost. The only hotels that I've stayed at in Australia in the past year where wifi has to be paid for are Accor hotels. The restaurant wasn't open the first night we stayed so we ate in the bar - that was a mistake. While the service was good and friendly, the food and prices weren't. On the basis of our first night experience, we didn't eat in-house again.
Visited for one night while driving up the Gold Coast. Info provided at reception and in-room very sparse. No free Wi-fi in room! This is 2017!! What next - charging for electricity??? Bar food ok, good 25m outdoor pool, overall whole place needs some tlc and cash spent on it.
We had a friendly welcome at reception and checked in easily. However was we arrived at our room we started to notice how old and run down the Hotel is. It is in desperate need of painting outside, new floor tiles in open air floor area's, as well in the room. We had requested a room for 3 people, king bed & sofa bed. However when we entered the room, the sofa bed was not set up, as we would normally expected. The sofa bed should be made up ready for use, but was folded up and had been sheet'd and left for us to make up. Not acceptable for a Novotel. I have worked in the hotel industry before and this is not the acceptable practise. When we rung reception about the bed, we were told, just to make up ourselves. We demanded someone come and make the bed up, as this is the Hotels responsibility. They did respond and we had someone come up straight away. We found the sofa bed had sheets already on, but we had no idea if they were clean or how long they had been on the bed. They changed the sheets for us and completed the bed. Overall we were disappointed with the Novotel, compared to other Accor hotels we have stayed at.
Friendly check-in. Great location near the beach, with 3 pools, Golf course, activities, games room and Childrens playground. Rooms are spacious with great views. Furniture and fittings need up grading and the bathroom , though well appointed had chipped tiles and wear and tear. Very good breakfast buffet although not wheelchair accessible. No free wifi and no safe in the room was surprising. Ample coat hangers and an iron and ironing board supplied. Lovely big balcony.
