This place is always amazing! Clean and neat, staff is super friendly and accommodating! I love this place!!
My husband and I enjoyed having breakfast in the parlor. The food was exceptional. It was a step back in time.
If you like an older European feel and experience, this is the place for you. So charming and well kept. We didn’t get to enjoy breakfast because we had to be out each by before 7 but i’m Sure it was nice.
We stayed for six nights, had a great time and will return if we get a chance. Hotel has a lot of character and is very close to downtown Evanston and walking distance to NU.
This hotel is so continental, it's a big surprise to walk down to the corner and find a bustling American university town right outside. Everything is very true in style to the era in which it was first built, but everything works perfectly and the online connection was better than a lot of the major chains. Really beautiful single room with an enormous bathroom, very comprehensive continental breakfast and an elevator you'll remember from small towns in Italy, with the gate you open and close before you enter and exit. Nice parlor when it's not the breakfast room, and nice library room for guests. Great stay, hate to give such a positive review, want to keep it as my secret place....
Front desk staff was super! Room was great, huge king size bed that was beyond comfortable, remote for the heat/air, so quiet I thought we were the only ones there til we saw the other guests at the wonderful continental breakfast...where we had our oick of 3 different home made pastries alongside the usual breakfast fare For dinner...you can walk to 3-4 different restaurants...we enjoyed Taco Diablo It is a terrific weekend getaway.
Location was perfect for visiting northwestern, with tons of food options in walking distance
Nice building, excellent breakfast, good location.
Everything about this hotel made me feel as though I was stepping back in time. It was beautifully restored yet we enjoyed all the modern comforts. The staff was extremely friendly, the breakfasts were wonderful, the surroundings immaculate. It was an easy walk to the train station, church and many great restaurants. Located in a beautiful town, we enjoyed Chicago without having to stay in the city!
Great staff, excellent Sunday brunch. Room was very small but perfect for one night!
Clean, nice location, nothing wrong, nothing spectacular.
First, know that the interior is in much better shape than the exterior. The rooms are quite nice, the bathrooms brand new and done well. The rooms are very spacious, just wish I had asked for a room with a desk so that I could have worked more easily. It is a 20 min Metra ride from downtown, fairly easy to navigate. The library and gathering room are adorable (refurbished to period architecture). The staff was lacking. There is no elevator to the main floor from the street level. I was asked if I wanted help, but, wow, I got the "please say no help needed" impression as they sat and watched me carry all of my luggage up the stairs myself. The elevator reminds me of European elevators, but you need to try it, just to try it.
Walking distance to downtown Evanston restaurants bars and train station. Close to Northwestern University as well. My wife and I stayed 2 night for a school reunion. Staff is very helpful and nice. Bkfast is basic (pastries, apples, OJ and coffee). Our only inconvenience was the bed, which sank with the heaviest person making the lighter companion sleep on a non-flat surface, an unfortunate experience I had in many hotels. The room and bathroom were clean and functional, though a large person will find the shower too small. There was no furniture to store our clothes or table to put the luggage - It was inconvenient to use our luggage on the floor. Note , we had a small room, there are larger rooms available. I would return to this hotel

Dear Langlee, Thank-you for the kind words. While Otis elevators are becoming rare in the U.S. you are correct that they are well in use in Europe. It actually has its own following on Youtube. When word gets out, there will always be room for you! Safe Travels, Michael
