This hotel has a boutique hotel feel. The lobby is beautiful and staff are very attentive. I booked this hotel because it was right next to the night market. Just walk out the door and turn left. Ate dinner in the market every night. There is a buffet breakfast that you need to purchase the day before. They provide towels if you go to the elephant sanctuary. My only negatives were the hallways and rooms has a musty odor and the bathroom shower. The shower head is on an adjustable rod but even when all the was up it only reached my upper lip. Had to bend down to wash my hair. I would stay there again.
I'm not sure why this is a "boutique" and/or "trendy" hotel. It was fine - not bad but not great either. Aesthetic is fairly modern and location is very convenient to the night market. It's about 15 minutes away from the old city. Concierge, front desk, porters, and cleaning staff were all quite helpful and friendly - but nothing outstanding. I did find arrangements that the hotel can arrange for were quite pricey. For example, we asked them to call for a private car hire and got a price for 2200 baht for a half-day when I was able to hire our airport car driver for $2000 for a full day (8 am to 6 pm). Dinner seemed very expensive for what you could get outside but the lunch was a decent value ($150 for a fixed set of main meal, rice, and drink). The pool was very small. It seemed expensive for what it was (especially compared to our stay at the Conrad Resort in Bangkok) and Bandara Resort in Koh Samui.
The staff is really helpful and nothing is too much hassle for them. They are always keen to help. The bed is super comfy and I couldn't find anything I didn't like. I strongly recommend this hotel. The area is very noisy and I don't particularly like the night bazaar but Chiangmai Mai is not too big and you easily get to the old town from the hotel. Food id quite overpriced but many options outside.
There are times when you need both comfort and consistency and this is what D2 delivers. In town for a minor medical procedure, I knew I would be spending the better part of the next 2 days in my room. It makes you appreciate the level of luxury and simple comfort. The rooms are well designed w/a couch and desk, a very comfortable bed and the bathrooms always spotless, the hot water and shower pressure perfect. The little things are always spot on. Off season prices are very competitive and actually reasonable for this level of quality. The couple of times I ventured outside, there was plenty in the immediate vicinity. I have stayed at D2 in the past and knew, though I might be in a bit of physical discomfort, my surroundings would be just right. Thanks again to the staff and hotel for a pleasant and easy stay.
I stayed at D2 Chiang Mai with a friend for around 4 nights. On entering the hotel we were taken aback by the modern orange decor which was calming and sleek and provided a sanctuary from the outside. The staff were very friendly and greeted us with a cold drink while we registered. The facilities in the hotel were good with a modern gym that had panoramic views of Chiang Mai, a sophisticated restaurant and a spa. The swimming pool was small but not bad. The location was also excellent. It was right beside the night market which offered a wide selection of quirky clothes, souvenirs, street food and on weekends live music. The hotel was also not far from the old city - about a 10 minute cab ride - and you could walk to bars like Zoe in Yellow in around 15 minutes. The problems began when we got to the room. The mattress was extremely hard and it felt like we were sleeping on the floor. I endured this for the first few days but it ended up being a mistake as I developed some quite significant back pain. To be fair to D2, when I asked them if we could get a new mattresses they sought to accommodate us. What this amounted to in practice, however, was extra mattress toppers. While this was an improvement, it still was not comfortable and my back problems persisted. I should also say that while the restaurant, breakfast and spa were good, the prices were significantly more expensive than you could get outside. The breakfast was around 600 baht each (with a buy one get one free deal available at reception) and lunch cost around 800 baht per person. The biggest rip off though was the spa, costing a staggering 3000 baht (buy one get one free deal including service charge) for two full body massages. This is broadly comparable to some places in the UK and was actually 10 times the price that you could get in the night market beside the hotel and around double the price of high quality places in Chiang Mai such as Fah Lanna. All in all, while the hotel was nice, I would be reluctant to stay again.
The Dusit D2 Chiang Mai is a fairly modern hotel located right along Chiang Mai's main night market street. We booked a club level room and were upgraded to a suite which was very spacious and nice, although it smelt a little musty. Cocktail hour was pleasant with a good variety of finger food and drinks and service was generally good. It was however, quite inconvenient as each room had a limit of 3 devices which could connect to the wifi network. Variety at breakfast was good, but the quality of food was unfortunately average at best. I like breakfast but skipped it after the first try.
This was a great hotel. There were pleasant staff who greeted you and often raced to open entry door for you. They asked if they could be of assistance if your were sitting in foyer. Bedroom was cleaned every day and maid was very pleasant and hard working. Pool was clean and always had a barman on site. Hotel was within walking distance to markets, shopping and temples if you felt like a walk. Breakfast was varied and cooked food was freshly cooked as required. A very pleasant stay.
Checked in 14th of June. Early check in was not possible. The room type booked was not allocated however check in staff did their best to facilitate my request. Check in was quick. Room is 3.5 star standard, overlooking car park where the car park attendant blows his whistle before 10am, if you are a light sleeper I suggest you request a room away from this area of the hotel. Staff are very friendly, helpful and pleasant. Breakfast was brilliant, great choice of food. Located in the heart of the night bazaar which is very convenient. Dinner was good but I was disappointed as the chicken had a lot of fat on it, but I chose a local dish and perhaps this is how it's cooked. Not much information on display at reception or in our room about local attractions.
It was a great stay with Dusit D2 Chaing Mai. The hotel is literally in the midst of the night market, just walk out and there it is. Rooms are clean and cleaned everyday after our mess. Breakfast quality is good and the variety good enough for our 6 days stay. Swimming pool is small for serious swimming, but it's good enough for family pool-time. There are connecting rooms, which is fantastic for us. The free Wifi connection in the room and in the hotel areas are strong and fast. There are a lot of dining options and the shopping malls are just a 10-15mins drive away. My family of 5 just took grabcar everywhere, but a word of caution, it's not illegal and it's not legal either.... :) The grabcar drivers mainly avoid the taxi stands and we arrange for our pick-up points in the basement carpark or some kind of public drop-off / pick-up places.
As soon as you arrive you experience this super fancy reception that makes you think also the rooms might be the same, that isn't quite right. Breakfast is average, rooms are outdated and smelly ,the tiny and dark swimming pool is at the Hotel rear, annoying that you will never get some sunshine. This place doesn't come cheap hence you realise that's not really good value for money. Location is super though close to the trendy night bazar and the lively local market.
