We stayed at the Chiang Mai Gate Hotel as part of a motorcycle tour of Northern Thailand and it suited us fine. This is an older hotel but the rooms are clean, the A/C works good and the pool area is quite OK The staff were friendly and helpful and the breakfast was decent. The location is OK, its a quiet area and a few minutes walk to the sights. Overall no complaints and OI would be happy to stay there again.

Clean and comfortable rooms, tasty breakfast buffet, lovely pool, and steps away from one of the most culturally rich cities in Asia. All for a very reasonable price. Book in advance because this hotel is popular and there won't be a vacancy when you need one.

Spent two nights here. It was a good experience. Located just outside the walls of the old city. Accommodation was nice, with a decent view from a small balcony. Breakfast very good. I hired a bike which gave me quick access to city and surrounds. Across the road there is a really nice coffee shop.

Its a short trip but enjoyable one.. Had intresting day trip to chiang rai..though its tiring..saw the shining white temple..n pay a visit to the long neck karen village.. Later in the evening went for dinner n cultural show intresting enough...

Where were there for three nights. Excellent location, we did everything in the old town on foot. Uber is available all over town, and it was MUCH, much cheaper than being constantly deceived by tuk-tuk drivers. Our room had a noisy air con, so they readily moved us to a better room, with no extra charge. The rooms are spacious, with cuppboard, safe, sofa, desk, flat screen tv and a good bathroom. Good, BUSY swimming pool, OUTSTANDING breakfast, well trained staff, though some don't speak english at all. Mattress was MISERABLE (old spring mattress, I could feel every one of them) in both rooms we were in. They should DEFINITELY buy new ones.

Great hotel for people wanting to explore chiang Mai! The rooms are nice and staff are friendly. The pool is an added extra aswell which is nice! The breakfast is good, there is something for everyone. The location is really good, you can grab a tuk yuk and get into the town centre for food and the markets. Would stay again!

Nice hotel with a great location. Easy to move around by foot or with tuktuk or taxi. Helpfull and frienly staff. Nice, clean and big rooms (we were at the 3th floor). Pool is ok, cosy and relaxing to swim after sunset. Breakfast wasn't good. You might want to eat somewhere else..

This hotel is an official GAdventures Tour hotel. It might be a hotel for other tours passing through as I saw a large Thai tour bus let off passengers who walked into the hotel. It is in a good and safe location to visit the area - particularly if you are staying over a weekend and can catch the Saturday night market which is within walking distance of the hotel. It's one of Chiang Mai's markets not to miss. If you miss that market, there is a local daily market near the hotel, too. Good place to grab dinner and sit outdoors. The accommodations are good, maybe a little crowded with the large furniture pieces, but perfectly a clean room. In room A/C, which work well on a hot day! Interesting bathroom layout. The shower is surrounded with stucco - something that you would find for an outdoor shower. Bathroom is solidly appointment with all the toiletries you need. There is a pool used by the hotel guests. We did not use it, but it does look inviting and there's a pool bar nearby. We stayed in one room that faced the entrance and another that faced the pool. Preference is to face the pool because of the view not necessarily because of street noise (which there was hardly any). The walls between rooms are thin in rooms that have a shared door! You can hear the neighbors cough and talk. I'm sure they could hear our tv noise which was probably high because we needed to hear it over the A/C. Bring ear plugs in case you have a noisy neighbor. Our first night we were fine (no shared door) - not so lucky on our second night. If you need to do laundry, there are several laundry facilities across the street. You need to turn in your dirty items the day before for pick up the next day. Breakfast was included with our stay. It's a very good breakfast that mixes Thai, Chinese, and Western dishes, which caters to the tourists staying at the hotel. I loved the chicken curry with noodles (a northern Thai breakfast dish) - be careful of the bones!

Stayed at this hotel while visiting Chiang Mai as part of our G Adventures tour through Thailand. Have to say this was one of the better hotels included with out G Adventures tour, has a good location close to shops bars and restaurants and also the night food markets. The rooms are spacious and perfectly acceptable considering the cheap price of the rooms, all rooms have air conditioning and toiletties and some also have balconys. There is a laundrette located across the street that does laundry for cheaper than the hotel price so if your a backpacker you can get your cloths washed and dried the same day! The street the hotel is located on also has many places to hire scooters and motorbikes for a good price, I would recommend doing this to explore the mountains around Chiang Mai as there is some beautiful temples and waterfalls dotted around. Overall we was very happy with our stay at the Chiang Mai Gate Hotel and would consider staying again if we returned to this beautiful part of Thailand.

Old, tired hotel, in dire need of restoration and a good clean up. Most customers are apparently backpackers so everything is checked and protected from theft. Breakfast is a buffet wich will be savaged bij backpackers if your not early enough. Staff do not hurry to fill up anything, they rather watch soaps on the tv which is in the kitchen. If you're a backpacker of looking for a cheap hotel in the middle of CHiang Mai, then this is the one for you! Small but functional pool. Positioned just outside the wall and in walking distance of the nightmarket. 2 laundry places oppostite. 30 and 40 baht per kilo, back the next day.
