At first glance, we weren't that impressed, but this funky place really grew on us. We had a junior suite that had a very comfortable bed, and a kitchenette. It had a cool bathroom with a section of open ceiling, and a large covered patio that unfortunately had only one lounge chair. The breakfast that was included was terrible with only 2 options. However, the attached restaurant, La Casita Azul was very good for dinner. Bicycle rentals are available for $8/day. This place has a beautiful view of the beach which has some good surfing. It also has a nice pool area that is somewhat awkardly located near the road. Overall we really liked this place even though it could use a good cleaning and some lipstick, but that describes almost everywhere in Costa Rica.
This place was a real surprise! I was not really sure what to expect and our room was excellent lovely Decour and detail of bamboo throughout the room very large room and the bathroom was upgraded it was just excellent. The details of the hotel we’re all very Jamaican Caribbean style and it was just lovely. The restaurant overlooking the beach we had a sloth living in the tree outside our room and they were monkeys living in the trees just down along the beach. And the restaurant itself was excellent had a great time
We spent three nights and four relaxed days at this pleasant hotel on the beach. The upper-floor room faced the wide garden and the beach beyond. The room was fair-sized, well maintained and had a king bed and an additional single bed as well. There was a spacious veranda overlooking the garden and the beach. Service was attentive and friendly. Breakfast in the attached restaurant was wholesome and good. The swimming pool area was large and the special feature was a raised and large jacuzzi whirlpool that also had a a waterfall that fell into the pool. Pleasant grounds with birds coming by from time to time. There were also a family in a nearby tree and lots more one could hear early morning in nearby trees. The beach and the sea was particularly nice and quiet during our stay. Some local families were there enjoying the beach and the gentle waters and snorkeling. The coast was particularly interesting because of the corals, and tree-lined walk all along the way. All in all we spent four enjoyable days in the hotel and the nearby areas. We have recently moved to Costa Rica and hope to visit the lovely Caribbean coast from time to time and also stay here.
We recently resided at Villas del caribe and although our time there was limited, we can mention some positives, and negatives regarding the hotel. On the positive side: It is conveniently located between Manzaillo and Puerto Viejie. The staff were friendly and helpful and the rooms clean and spacious. The kitchenettes of the junior suites, seem to differ from one to another but was functional for basic needs. Rooms also have in room safes, air conditioning, and ceiling fans. Most seem to have balconies or decks on which to relax and soak up the sun outdoors. On the downside: The ocean right in front of the hotel is deemed not fit for bathing (rip tides and rocky), and one has to walk a distance either up or down coast to enjoy the warm Caribbean ocean. Although there are still signs indicating the facility of a business center, we were told that this is either not functions, or we could not use it and had to drive into Puerto Viejo to Atec for internet facilities and use. The onsite restaurant was average in terms of décor, and food but the service as most places in Costa Rica very friendly. The onsite pool was clean and user friendly but one afternoon we unfortunately had to deal with obnoxious guests who seemed to be hellbent on breaking “every pool rule”. Thus good solid basic accommodation, but nothing exceptional.
We shared a "house" with our kids. Their room was very small but anyway they stayed there only during the night. Ours was huge. We liked the area, the easy going. The breakfast was very good - but first you had to understand that you need a voucher from the hotel and hand it over in the restaurant. The guys there were very busy, seemed a bit stressed but their products were good. Specialy dinner was very good, excellent. We liked the house itself, it was well equiped. But what the owners should do: tell the gardener to clean up. Too much waste in the garden, it's a pity.
I was there jus for a night, the employees welcomes you from the very first minute. The room was very clean, mine didnt have AC but still very fresh at night. You have 3 options for breakfast 'tico', 'american' and 'sweet' and you eat 10 meters from the ocean
I was at Villas del Caribe the last week of March and highly recommend it. We got the cheapest room available so my description of the room speaks only to our room and none of the other upgraded ones. Our room in particular was on the second floor and faced the beach but I think all rooms have a beach facing balcony from what I saw. My room had no a/c but that did not matter. Even at high noon the breeze kept the room cool. I recommend bug spray as mosquitos are inevitable. My room also had no tv or phone but that didn't matter to us. There was a safe in the closet and that's all we really needed. The only odd thing was that our king size bed was actually two full size beds pushed together. Minor detail, no big deal. Our balcony had a bench, plastic chair, and a hammock which was great to lay on and watch the animals pass by or just relax and nap after an exhausting tour. We stayed at the property located close to the Jaguar Rescue center and directly across from a pulperia (convenient store) which sold drinks, snacks, but more importantly rented bicycles for $6 a day which saved us from either walking all the way to town to rent bikes or paying for a taxi to get there. There is a restaurant which offers a daily breakfast with 4 dishes to choose from and lots of dinner options (We never had lunch there.) The pool was overlooked by a waterfall wall which held a hot tub at the top. It's not the biggest pool but was very clean and well kept. Hibiscus flowers, banana trees, and lots of other flora adorned the grounds. The hotel staff was superb and went out of their way to make sure we were well taken care of. The tours desk was closed on a day when it should have been open and when I asked Elliot at the front desk when the girl would be there he said she wouldn't be in that day but offered to answer any questions I had about tours. After a short chat he made a phone call and booked us a tour right then and there. He even did our laundry at no charge. When the restaurant waiter heard we were checking out at 7am (when the restaurant opens) and would not make it to breakfast on time he said not to worry and had a breakfast to go ready for us at 6:45. The property is located at the edge of the jungle with beach access. The location made for great beach pictures but due to the rocky shoreline we did not go swimming. Being that the property is in a jungle we had our share of howler monkeys that we could see from our balcony as well as humming birds, parrots, and other species of birds. We even has a few sloths come through. I usually travel to Tamarindo but decided to try the Caribbean this time and while our hotel was not as luxurious as any I have been to before I found it to be a great value for the cost and will definitely be going back
Very nice location and the rooms are great, they look just like the pictures. We had a nice ocean view and A/C in the room. Big balcony with a hammock and table + chairs. Make sure you try the restaurant, it is excellent! it was the best food we had in Costa Rica. They make specials every day - try it! We had tuna and octopus, it was great. So was the burger and the brownie we had the next day.
Spent three weeks with nursing students in Costa Rica. Spent the weekend in limón at small resort. Very clean and wonderful service. Excellent restaurant. Rained one day but still great experience.
