Had lovely stay at the sandringham hotel nice room lovely helpful professional staff great breakfast hotel in middle of city and great for any shows or sporting events in Cardiff lively bar downstairs great atmosphere thanks for fab stay 😃
The Sandringham was really well situated in the middle of town. Walking distance to the principality stadium which was ideal for us as we were here to see Coldplay. The breakfast was really good and cooked to order. The staff were really friendly and the rooms were clean and tidy. My only complaint was it was very tired and dated and in need of a refurb, especially the bathroom. Would I stay again ? Yes
Stayed here last week for two nights, After booking a hotel in Cardiff months ago for a concert i was attending with a friend plans changed and it was now just myself and a 4 year old and the previous booked hotel was 6 miles from the concert venue which had me worried how to get a child home in a city i didn't know, out of curiosity I searched again although previous searches had shown there was nowhere less than £700 to stay in Cardiff for those dates i was over the moon when this hotel came up couldn't quite believe my luck plus it was cheaper than the other one I had booked. We travelled by coach to Sophia gardens and it was a nice easy 10 minute walk from the coach stops through the beautiful gardens then about 5 mins from gardens to hotel. Upon arrival we were tired, hungry, sweating. I had tried to bring the minimum of stuff and when i arrived i had the wrong bank card with the money to check in and pay the receptionist was lovely and patient whilst I made phone calls and went back outside for signal to use my mobile banking. All paid and thank the Lord we were only in room 2 and the was no more stairs :) The room was small but it was clean it was dated but again clean so what does it matter? I wasn't expecting luxury i was expecting somewhere safe and close distance from the stadium for my sons benefit. So expecting somewhere safe i was disappointed about the lack of lock on the inside door. I was on the same floor as reception and a fair bit of time nobody was on that desk yes they were only behind the window but if my 4 year old had walked past he wouldn't have been seen so for me it was a case of bedside table against the door and suitcase and chair so that if I fell asleep I'd hear him go although i was scared to go to sleep incase i was in a deep sleep and didn't hear him and then what if my charger was to catch fire and the door is blocked with a bedside table and chairs I couldn't win so I didn't sleep either night because i couldn't, I couldn't even use the toilet it have a shower without my son being in the bathroom because hes fast and does have a habit of running off and escaping out of doors. I paid 280 for 2 which is scandalous but compared to other hotels which didn't look as clean as this by photos was more reasonable and i fully understand if there's money to be made then you have to do it. Plus it was a bit extra for using a third party and choosing to pay on arrival. But on the other hand my son was safe and in the room before the end of the last song at the concert and we left during the last song si that's how close we were and you can't put a price on your child's well being can you. The two ladies at breakfast Tuesday morning (12th july) had the loveliest customer service I've encountered i n.a. long time and definitely out of anybody else i came to have conversation with I any cafe/restaraunt/shop in Cardiff although all the other staff are right behind. Being unfamiliar to they city and not wanting to venture too far we eat in cafe jazz for a late lunch/ early dinner like the hotel it is dated and the children's like glasses were not for me but hey the food was lovely and the service from the man who's name i didn't catch he had dark hair seemed to be management was exempt. The constant Coldplay music was a bonus aswell. Will definitely stay again if i visit Cardiff most certainly if i go to anything at the stadium again but not with a child.
My partner and myself had booked this hotel to go to a concert as it is so close to the Principality stadium. We had to cancel our booking last minute as our toddler was hospitalised. We phoned up the day before our stay to cancel and they could not have been more compassionate about our situation. They not only allowed us to cancel without charge but even sold our concert tickets for us and arranged to have the money refunded into our bank. This really took us back – we had not expected such kindness. You just do not get this level of personal service in the hotel chains. I could not recommend the Sandringham more highly. We didn’t even stay in their hotel and the customer service we received from them was outstanding. They went above and beyond and we can’t thank them enough. After such a stressful and upsetting few days, it was such a lovely and thoughtful gesture from the hotel. Thank you Simon and all the staff who helped out.
We stayed one night and great to be in the middle of the city. Don't be put off by the entrance and stairs. For what you pay it is bargain. Receptionist is on the ball. Rooms are tired but clean and sheets etc are spotless. The bathroom was clean but bath seals need changing. Breakfast was freshly cooked needs better coffee and orange juice. Would stay there again.
We looked at the usual comparison sites and found the reviews of the "known quantities" for our budget were fairly mixed - with both Travelodge and Premier Inn central hotels seeming fairly shabby. Finally, we booked the Sandringham - and we made a very good choice! We booked via the hotel's own web-site. This ensures a free breakfast, later check-out time if you need it (12:00) and a complementary drink at the Cafe Jazz on the ground floor. Also, payment isn't taken at the time of booking - only when you check-in - well that was the case for us any way. There seems to be a fairly generous cancellation policy too. The location is really convenient - close to everything central - especially the Principality Stadium. Walkable from the Station too. The downside of the location is the inevitable noise. The higher your room, the less the effect, and rooms at the back are probably unaffected. We were in Room 202 - one down from the top floor, and all across the front of the Hotel. The stairs are fine - there is no lift. It's good for you and no lift noise either! After a Sandringham breakfast the stairs are medically advisable anyway. The breakfast is a help yourself cereal/toast/fruit salad/coffee tea arrangement, with waitress service for cooked breakfast. Nothing is too much trouble and it can all be tailored to personal requirements. Cooked breakfasts are really good.Too good. Porridge is available, and portions looked huge. The room itself (202) was quiet in terms of noise from within the hotel, clean and comfortable. Street noise apparent but inevitable in this great location. Bathroom fittings were a bit dated - but absolutely fine, and perfectly clean. Plenty of hot water. Bed linen and towels were spotless. All the staff that we met were friendly and helpful. No trouble to leave our bags after we had checked out. The acid test of a hotel is whether you would go back if visiting again. YES - no hesitation - thanks for a great break.
yes this hotel is dated but I like to think its got character! the staff are so friendly and its perfect for anyone staying in Cardiff, we stayed for a concert at the motor point arena, we had a fantastic stay and were able to shop, eat and drink throughout the day popping back to hotel as required then a really short walk to arena for the music, no taxi's or public transport required and so many places to have great food and drinks. We will defiantly be returning for a short break away and staying here to explore the city some more - Thanks for a lovely stay :-)
It is in an older building, but the rooms are good sized and clean with comfortable beds. The bathrooms are quite large for a UK hotel. There was also a table fan in the room, which was a nice perk as the afternoons got a little warm. The staff was more than friendly and made us laugh and feel at home. There is no lift, but the ground floor restaurant, Cafe Jazz, was really good and accommodating of our food allergies. Breakfast was also good and cooked to order. The location was very convenient for the city centre and the taxi que. Would love to stay again!
My wife and I stayed here for one night when I was in Cardiff on business. It is listed as the oldest running hotel in Cardiff. If you look too closely at the decor, fixtures and fittings you would certainly agree with the claim. Our room was perfectly adequate, with a clean bathroom with decent shower. There was no air con in our room; however, a fan was provided - which was incredibly welcome as it happened to be about 29c the day we stayed! The stairs are quite steep, and I would think that anyone with mobility issues would definitely struggle to get to the rooms on the upper floors. Due to the location it was still possible to hear people enjoying themselves in the main street long after we had gone to bed. Closing the windows did stop most of the noise, but this didn't help with the temperature in the room. If you like a bit of jazz the Cafe Jazz next door to the hotel is an excellent place to spend an evening. We certainly enjoyed popping in for an hour. There is live music on most nights and hotel guests get a 20% discount on food and drink. Overall - if I wanted to stay in Cardiff for a couple of nights to go around the pubs and clubs I would definitely consider going back to the Sandringham Hotel.
We stayed for 1 night at this hotel and we would highlight the good service of the receptionists and the nice english breakfast during the morning. The room was big enough and was en-suite. Very nice place for the price paid. Good thing is that they do have an agreement with a nearby parking and we paid less that night for having our car parked in the very city centre thanks to the hotel.
