A very good location in centre of Cardiff bar street . Good restaurant in Jazz bar downstairs , Taxi rank 100 meters away , so no problems getting to concert venues . The station is very close too . The hotel is clean but in need of a bit of TLC . The staff and owners are lovely , also the doorman after dark , all very friendly and chatty .
The Sandringham is an older hotel in a quaint, older building. Its location is a reasonable walk from the railway station and the airport bus stop, and to Cardiff Castle and the tourist sights in central Cardiff. It has no elevator, and you can expect to carry your bags up stairs—even the check-in desk is on the first floor. The staff are friendly and helpful. While checking in I learned details about someone’s boyfriend! The rooms are on the small side, but you have enough storage space for several days’ stay. The plumbing all works okay. Our toilet took a long time to recycle. While we were staying, there was a problem with the room above ours that caused water to drip into our bathtub. It was fixed in about 24 hours. The hotel is currently undergoing renovations; we encountered workmen in the hallways. While we didn’t have any trouble with noise or rowdy behavior, there are signs in the halls admonishing guests to be quiet, and also that they should not play with the fire extinguishers! The breakfast is very good. Cooked breakfasts are made to order from a menu that allows you to choose any or all components of a full English breakfast. There is a restaurant, and guests receive a discount, but we didn’t get around to eating there.
Have stayed here twice now the hotel is in a great location and only a 5 minute walk to train station. The first time I stayed breakfast was included with the night this time however we had to pay extra if we wanted it. The first time I had a room on the 3rd floor and didn’t here much but the jazz club was shut, this time however we were on the 1st floor looking out over main road and all I could here till late was the music from the jazz club and people coming out of bars! Apart from that it’s a lovely place with friendly staff and people a available on reception 24hrs I would return when I nxt visit son at uni but would ask for a different room.
Stayed here to spend time with my daughter who lives in Cardiff although we both stayed at the hotel. Was a bit dubious as I booked and then read the reviews, some of which were not very good! Think some people forget that this is a budget hotel and value for money. It does need painting in places but our twin room was a good size, clean and comfortable... a shame the mattresses were not the same on both beds, couldn’t agree on who had which bed 😉 Shower was good with very hot water. Didn’t eat here so cannot comment on the food. The best advertisement for the hotel are the staff from a very chatty lady on reception to the housekeeping team, they all spoke when passing in the corridor. There is no lift but help with your luggage is offered to get up the stairs.... I needed it at checkout as I had hurt my foot. Housekeeping team were efficient, my daughter and I were in and out and they had always serviced our room. The addition of a fan in the room was very welcome as it was a hot week and it was a little noisy with the window open .... to be expected in a city centre! I had to email the hotel before arrival with a couple of questions and got a very swift reply.
Very disappointing. Afternoon tea with bubbles. A 80th birthday present for my mum. She was disappointed before we even sat down as she likes her tea in a China cup. The bread on sandwiches was dry as if they had been made a couple of hours before we arrived. There was whipped cream, not clotted cream for the scone. The only nice thing was the meringue.. Definitely not worth the money.
The staff are absolutely brilliant. Can't fault them. Alison helped get us booked in as I didn't need or want any extra bed for my toddler and really made sure we would be okay. Checking in was pleasent and easy the staff very welcoming of my little one. The hotel itself needs a little love. It's definitely looking run down in places and needs a make over. It was clean and comfortable though. My main issue was the volume of the music from the Jazz cafe downstairs. I get that it was Friday night but there is not good reason to play bad jazz that loud. Nor is a there a good reason to play a crap jazz version of Rolling In The Deep three times in two hours.
we booked 2 rooms for 2 nights , staff on reception and in breakfast room all very friendly and helpful t,the beds were clean and comfortable, excellent location if you dont mind noise , that is the only nice things i can say about this hotel , we were in rooms 302 & 303 so up 3 flights of steps , no lift , so quite a trek , the surroundings in the place are very grim -in desperate need of a spruce up , we only went here as slightly cheaper than the royal down the road but really regretted it , the rooms were dull and very very grubby although clean , toilet flush didnt work and shower only spouted out scalding hot water despite several attempts , they did try and help get this sorted but i ended up using bath and my friend traipsed downstairs to use the toilet ,we were offered another room on the 2nd morning if we waited til 11 but we had plans so decided to put up with it for 1 more night , breakfast had lots of choice , 2 of us opted for cooked breakfast but could nt eat it as it was awful , 2nd morning ,we had poached eggs on toast which was lovely , the 2 waitresses in there were lovely , lots more minor grievances i could mention but wont . i would NEVER stay here again
Give the hotel a call and book with them directly as I got a much better rate. Hotel itself is dated but clean and central. Breakfast was lovely and the staff were friendly and helpful. It was perfect for what I needed. Ask for a quiet room if noise bothers you as it is on one of the main/busiest streets (for pedestrians) in Cardiff. For £35 it was brilliant!
I booked directly with the hotel and requested for quiet room. I enjoy my stay here as it is right in the middle of the centre such that I can easily go to conference in the university while also can access Lora of food and café and also shopping on my way.fan is provided during summer so it is a plus! Breakfast is traditional English breakfast. Staffs are friendly:)
For a great location near to all tourist areas this place is perfect. The building may be in need of a little refurbishment but it is spotless. All staff exceptionally friendly nothing too much trouble and always ready with a smile. Breakfast is cooked to order using fresh ingredients. Would stay again. The restaurant attached to the hotel also serves excellent meals again made to order using fresh produce and really good value.
