We stayed on Friday. Hoping for a pleasant time away. However on leaving the hotel to go out there was a man on security working for a private party who was incredibly rude and aggressive towards me and my colleague. Having informed mercure reception staff I got a lacking response that he was nothing to do with mercure and was not employed by them therefore there was nothing they could do.i have never had a worse experience I. A well known hotel and hasten to say I will never stay with them again. I was informed on leaving that I would have an apology from this man and an email from head office (I am still waiting 4 days later)
This is the second time I have stayed at the Mercure for business. Check in is quick and efficient. Car park is underground and is first come first served, £12 for overnight which is very reasonable for Cardiff city centre prices. It’s a little difficult to find even as a local who used to live a mere 5 minutes walk away! But if you are using a sat nav you should be fine. Rooms are as you would expect, if a little tired. Bath and separate shower in my room this time; which I much prefer! Lovely big spacious bar area for evening drinks. Breakfast is a hot buffet and on the mediocre side as it sits for so long. Lovely range of juices. Have also attended this hotel for functions during the day & tend to park in between the hotel & next to the Cardiff uni building.
Maria and Ryan on Reception were so hospital on arrival/departure. Room was spotlessly clean and very spacious. (Room 603) Breakfast was amazing. I would'nt stay anywhere else when visiting Cardiff. Spa and pool are also fab.
I’ve stayed here many times over the years for business but this was the first time I’ve stayed here within 12 months. Generally, i find the staff friendly and helpful so no complaints with them or the quality of the accommodation. However, the breakfast was pretty dyer. I wish i had taken a picture. I arrived for breakfast at 6.40am (it opens at 6.30am). Mushrooms, Bacon, Sausages and hash browns all looked like they were warmed up from yesterday’s batch that didn’t get eaten. I was certainly not going to touch them everything appeared to be dried up. Three if my colleagues have decided to stay elsewhere for this very reason which would indicate that this is not an isolated incident.
The Mercure Hotel is a wonderful place to stay. Lovely friendly staff..gorgeous food..brilliant bar facilities and really comfortable bedrooms. The spa in this hotel is a delight...the masseuse are excellent! Together with the location..handy for city centre.within walking distance of the Bay or if you prefer a one stop train journey...station really close by. I can't wait to go back.
We were quite impressed all round by this hotel, and would certainly return to it when we next visit Cardiff. It is a bit out of the centre, and quite hard to drive into to park, but once there the hotel works well. reception was quick and easy, they dealt with all our questions simply and effectively. The room was good, comfortable and very well equipped, all you needed. There was noise from the street- 8 floors down- but that was not too bad and didn't stop us sleeping. Breakfasts were good, a range of food, constantly replenished, and tasty. The restaurant exceded expectations, with clever dishes simply presented, and good service. Much better than we had been led to believe our meal was very enjoyable, and we would eat there again rather than try some of the "chain" outlets in the centre. There is a problem with parking, but if you know that you can prepare in advance, and for us it was worth the price. The bar area, spacious and comfortable, is let down slightly by the bar, like most hotels offering little for real ale fans, but there are good pubs not too far away. So, all in all, a good hotel for short shopping/rugby trip stays like ours, and well worth a visit.
First the positives, most of the staff are friendly and the room is spacious if rather tired looking. Bathroom fine and clean, it’s near the city centre. Negatives parking (don’t assume you will be fine) arrival on a busy Friday no room so NCP £24.00. Prior to booking I called and did ask about parking availability, I was told it was first come first served but most people could park fine ....this clearly isn’t the case at weekends, on arrival the lady at the desk said members of staff would know the situation but like other comments they don’t make this clear enough. Either they should state parking limited this or the hotel should have a deal with the local NCP so you don’t have to pay the full whack and maybe get the £12.00 difference off your bill. Alternatively I suggest you should get a train. Room was ok but I would advise to get one away from the lifts and as there were several functions going on the weekend we visited as a result the lifts going up and down all night until the early hours were a tad noisy. Didn’t use the spa or gym so I can’t comment as it was pretty busy when we thought of using the facilities but as we were out a lot enjoying the city it wasn’t an issue, in my opinion I feel this hotel is set up for large groups and parties rather than for couples. I don’t think it deserves its 4* status.
Just had another fab weekend with the girls. Cardiff is amazing, had dinner at Viva Brazil, omg! Love the view and the staff made us feel at home. Especially the gentlemen at reception did not get his name.See you in June for the concert. Can't wait.
Stayed at Mercure Cardiff Holland House and Spa for my daughters birthday treat. We had tickets for Michael McIntyre, so a hotel within easy access of the arena was a must. Location was approx 15 mins walk to arena and 10 mins walk to the fabulous shopping and limitless places to eat Cardiff has to offer. Easy walking distance to Cardiff Castle. The hotel was comfortable, clean and contemporary. The staff were all friendly and helpful. Breakfast was fabulous . Parking in the basement is a huge benefit, the downside is , collection of ticket on entry, payable then at reception in advance £12 per 24hrs. Parking is very limited for the size of the hotel which caterers for conferences /meetings as well as usual guests . We were told if we went out in the car our place was not guaranteed , this could prove costly and very frustrating . We opted to leave the car in place for our 2 days. The Spa is lovely, but can get very busy at peak times. We were unable to get in the steam or sauna and played a waiting game for the hot tub which seemed to have some guests that felt if belonged to them for eternity. Also the pool had two lanes blocked for lane only swimming, making the other area a little crowded. It is also a facility that has memberships , again adding to the pressure on space in peak times. With hind sight it may have been worth enquiring at spa reception , when would be a less busy time. I would recommend this hotel and will book again if going to Cardiff .
Good location for getting into the town centre , a short walk . Good that they have parking , Food has always been excellent, room is always clean . Plenty of room at the bar for sitting with sofas around the place
