Mercure Cardiff Holland House Hotel & Spa4.0 out of 5.0

We booked a room at the Mercure based on good reviews but were really disappointed with this hotel. Our room was large but the details make the difference: cracked sink, scratched bathtub, bathroom light burned out, lid broken off the garbage can, disgusting discoloured grey bathrobe, iron with guck on the ironing surface which made it impossible to use, cheap bedding, inability to get an answer to our phone calls to the front desk, housekeeping and customer service; and the big things: the most uncomfortable bed I have ever experienced in a hotel, with springs you could feel through the mattress, the changing room at the "spa" with rotten wood surfaces throughout, needing a complete overhaul. We didn't even chance having breakfast here. This was probably the most worst hotel I have ever stayed.
my wife have stayed here many times , and always try to book a spa & dinner package , not always available , the executive lounge is a roped off area at the bar , which is cozy but fine .Most of the staff a very friendly , expect the front desk staff are a little frosty , and can be very rude . parking is not bounty full !
Used the hotel for a conference and to stay to catch up with friends afterwards. Won't comment on conference here unless people want me too. The hotel itself is big, car park is on site but tiny. 14 floors with suite at the top. Rooms are large, clean with a good size bathroom. Seperate shower and very deep bath. Bed is massive, so big sheets dont quite fit! All food (2 breakfasts, 2 dinners and conference buffet) was excellent and pretty reasonable. Spa on site which I didnt get to try - another time hopefully! Very close to Cardiff city center
We have been before but were delighted to come again. The hotel is near to Queen Street station. The spa is lovely and the treatment rooms are super. Warm and friendly treatment staff - Cerys in particular was a gem! Lovely pedicure and massage. Fab place to access Cardiff from. We'll be back.
A very pleasant stay, nice food, great customer service, comfy beds and a very quiet place to stay. If there are two things I would suggest to improve on, It would be to invest in dimmed lighting for overnight or even sensored lighting, the light from the hallway almost lit up the whole bedroom overnight. One thing that was really disappointing was how disgustingly dirty the windows were on the outside. It may sound rather trivial but we had a lovely room with a stunning view. However, the windows were covered in dirt that you could barely see out clearly. It really let the experience down, We had told people we had a lovely view but couldn't picture it because you could barely see it through the dirt. For a large company, especially with such lovely views, I'm surprised this isn't a standard thing to have a window cleaner. Other than that, everything was great.
Checked into the Mercure Cardiff Holland House in the town of Cardiff along the River Taff. Giving this establishment a 4.8 hinge rating (scale of 1-5). The building (14 stories) was originally a bank with lots of offices above, and the Mercure hotels purchased it back in the mid-2000s and updating all the floors to a hotel venue opening in 2007. Really nice place and excellent location! Our room 504 is large enough to hold go cart races in. Everything is top notch with a view of the front of the hotel front, but noise is NOT an issue as Air-conditioning is in every room
Stayed for 3 nights bed and breakfast, Friday to Monday, our room was very spacious, the bed was huge, very good facilities, separate shower, bath with nice toiletries. We were on the 9th floor and had a great view of Cardiff. The staff were friendly nothing to much trouble. The spa facilities were good we went swimming and used the steam room and sauna. Breakfast was ample plenty of choice. The location is perfect a short walk from the centre and approx 30 min walk from train station. Would definitely stay again!
First they put my sister and I room on a different floor than my mom and aunt. My mom and aunt's room smelled so bad of vomit I almost threw up. Went downstairs to get a new room. Luckily they had one but it was a double bed, so my sister and I took it and let our mom and aunt have the two twins. Now at least both rooms were on the same floor, but were still quite a ways away from each other. Our new was okay, but I think it was a smoking room cause it smelled of cigarette smoke. That wasn't good since we both have asthma. The nice things was that both rooms were large and had lots of space. Both rooms had decent views of the city streets. Location was good. Not to far to walk to everything, including Cardiff castle. Breakfast was alright.
Wishing to provide our granddaughters of 8 and 13 with a special treat we enjoyed a 2-night stay at the hotel. Comfort and style plus an excellent breakfast and outstanding service particularly in the restaurant made for a memorable stay. We will return.
Stayed here Sunday night. Wow. Was on 14th floor (highest) so great view! Lady on reception was lovely. Rooms were big and spotless! I was in live with the bathroom the bath was huge and had a shower separate! However we didn't park in the hotel as we had just come from Cardiff airport and we needed to park before the hotel and after we left the hotel so paid something like £14 for 24 hour in one of the ncp car park (think that's what it's called). You could hear the lift but it didn't keep us up or anything. We did pay alot for one night £85 but as it was only one night we wanted to go somewhere worth it and it was! The rooms had a iron fridge tv, kettle etc, aircon. Anything you can think of! Spa was lovely the pool was a big size, it's great that the sauna steam room etc is free! Changing rooms were great and big with everything in! I would come back again! X
