Mercure Cardiff Holland House Hotel & Spa4.0 out of 5.0

I had wanted to book a spa break for my partner and I and this was one of the few hotels in Cardiff with a Spa incorporated within it. I did my research and saw that the reviews were good and so I booked our stay. Upon arrival we were made to feel very welcome. We later entered our room and we were thrilled with it. It had panoramic views across Swansea from two aspects. There was a large, comfortable bed and a small sitting room. It felt spacious and modern and it was very clean. During the evening we visited the bar area of the hotel, which again is very pleasantly decorated and the staff, like everywhere else in the hotel, were an absolute delight. They really couldn't do enough for us. We then had our dinner, which wasn't amazing, but it was quite pleasant and reasonably good value for money. Following our meal we ventured into Cardiff for a couple of hours, which wasn't far away, but we got a taxi home at the end of the evening. The following morning, following breakfast, we attended the spa for our treatments (me a facial, my partner a massage). The whole experience was lovely. Since this trip I have visited again, this time with my daughter (for her birthday), so on this occasion I arranged for us to be served lunch in the spa dining room. This was delicious and was accompanied by a complementary glass of prosecco to celebrate my daughter's birthday. We could also help ourselves to the complementary waters (flavoured and normal), as well as a selection of teas and coffees. We both agreed that we felt totally re-charged as a result of our stay in the Mercure. The combination of an attractive hotel, excellent customer care, a stunning room and a lovely spa, was everything we had hoped for. I can't wait to go there again!
Was at the hotel over this weekend that just went past. Right were you need to be if you want to see the city in style. The hotel was very unique with just the right perfect balance of urban and luxury. The staff were very friendly and professional. There was a leadership presence felt at all time as I saw managers interacting with other guests and helping their teams when needed. The spa and gym looked very nice as well and I will definitely try them out next time I stay in Cardiff.
We booked this 4 star hotel with a certain level of expectations associated with the name, and were very disappointed with the bare bone minimum that they gave us. Everything had to be charged extra to the tariff: £12 per day for parking, £10 per person for breakfast... they even charged £7.50 per person per day for the hotel gym!! There was no facial tissues in the room, the fridge was barely functional with an operating temperature of about 15 degrees Celsius, there was no mini bar at all, and they also only gave you 1 spoon to use for your cup of tea between 2 people. You also had to put down a £50 deposit on your card at check in, in case you used any of their faculties. Seriously?? They should change their rating to 2.5 stars instead of falsely advertising.
Just back from a one night stay..fantastic hotel in great location.lovely friendly staff. We had superior room with amazing view. Can't fault anything. Will definitely be back.Very close to queen street station where you can get train to Cardiff bay for £2 each way..it takes about 2 minutes
We stayed here for two nights in June, one night as part of the spa reviver package and one add on night. We upgraded for £40 on the first night which was worth it as we got free parking, complimentary snacks in the room and a free round of drinks/canapés before dinner. The second night we changed to a standard room which was equally as clean and comfortable as the first. The swimming pool area was nice and clean, we both really enjoyed our massage - particularly as they were able to accommodate me for a back massage at 6 months pregnant! The only place we felt the mercure was let down on was the food. We had dinner included as part of our package on the first night and though the food wasn't bad, it seemed like pretty cheap mass catering fare - breakfast was much the same. If we were to stay again we would probably scrap the add on dinner and breakfast and eat elsewhere as there are some lovely places within 10 minutes walk. Overall we enjoyed our time here and would recommend staying if looking for somewhere in Cardiff.
We stayed here for 1 night and had a huge room at a keen price with a very comfy bed and large bathroom with bath and shower. The leisure facilities were good and the breakfast buffet was great with plenty of choice for all diets including vegetarians and vegans.
I and my wife have been stayed in this hotel over 30 nights per year. This hotel is always the best choice in Cardiff. We have stayed in other hotels too but none of them we want to try again. The facilities (Gym, pool, par) are excellent. Won't feel boring even stayed at hotel all day.
Good location if you want close walking distance for shopping centre and resturants. Friendly and helpful staff. Bathroom was amazing, the bath tub was massive!!! Parking was £12 a day in the hotel car park. But was did disappoint was that the room cards stopped working twice in the 4 days we were there, had to get them redone, TV was shocking to get working and you couldn't attach any own personal items to it; firestick, we were at the top floor and the air con was rubbish and had no windows we could open, we were minus a lightbulb, bedding wasn't changed and was dirty. Also you have to put the card into the slot next to the door to get power for anything.
I had such high hopes for staying here. We booked a Saturday night stay as a little mini-moon after our wedding. In my opinion this is a decent 3* hotel but no where near 4* standard. Firstly, the parking is not free for hotel guests which is inappropriate (if you pay that much money you should get a car space), the bedroom we were given had such wasted space and no 4* details (no robes, no bottles of water, etc.), it was very conference-like. The floor our room was on hadn't had the carpet vaccumned and there were bits and pieces from other rooms leaning against the walls (this was at 5pm in the afternoon). There was construction outside that started at 7am on Sunday morning, while I know the hotel can't control this I feel they should tell customers before they book so a person can make an informed choice. We were woken up at 7am by drilling...that lasted for over 1 hour...on a Sunday morning. The breakfast is extra, which I don't mind paying, but it's not really up to 4* standard. The positives of this hotel are the location - it is in easy walking distance to the city centre. Very disappointing.
Stayed over night/spa for a 30th birthday. Staff were amazing, food was outstanding, spa facilities beautiful. Would defiantly recommend the service provided by staff added to the special occasion thank you ALL.
