I loved the quaint, brightly colored, gingerbread design of the boutique hotel. The smaller room that I stayed in was cozy with limited seating but a bit chilly despite them giving us a small space heater because the heat wasn't working. The staff was accommodating and pleasant. The hotel was well located within walking distance of many restaurants and attractions.
The staff does not recommend walking after dark; which seems to be the recommendation throughout South Africa. Frankly it didn't feel any less safe than NYC but you do notice the ubiquitous electric fences and high concrete enclosures.
The hotel does not have a lobby or a reception area. The few areas to gather are located outside in a small front and back court-yard which can be quite chilly and uncomfortable when it is raining. There is a sauna and small pool outside as well. The dining area is adjacent to the kitchen but also outside at small tables. Hopefully they can create a place to lounge and meet other guests during inclement weather. In any case, I recommend the hotel and would definitely return.
