Overnight stay visiting family. When arrived there was no parking as the attendees of a 21st party on the ground occupied all available stops. No special parking for hotel guests 😐 Room was very clean and had no issues. Restaurant service was slow (due to party seemingly taking priority) - I don't think a room of 21 year olds should be their target audience when considering which customers to keep happy. Overall great hotel, just avoid the nights there's a party being held there.
The hotel was nicely renovated. Had a crown suite and it was nice but a little disapointed that there was no open balcony. My fav is the toilet and bath, i like the auto detect lights on when you walk in at night. Bed was good too. Went to Canberra during the Balloon Spectacular and Enlighten event on that weekend. The small car park is full. The receptionist said that they were fully booked and told us to park either off street at the back of the hotel which is a residential area and its also packed with cars. We have found one tiny space to park a number of blocks from the hotel and it was dark scary walk to hotel.
A recent work trip took my to Canberra, where I had my first stay at the Rex Hotel. The three night stay saw me attend a conference which was actually held in the hotel - very handy. Despite that, I did explore a bit of a the local area. The hotel is very close to trendy Lonsdale St, with Canberra Central just a block or two further. All the big Canberra attractions can be accessed by bus(or UBER in my case!) There is currently major work going on outside the hotel, installing a light rail, which should make getting around the in the future even easier. The hotel room was a good size, bed was comfortable and everything worked as it should. The hotel serves breakfast, which was included with my room, which was a fresh and had a good range of options available. All of the staff we interacted with were very pleasant and happy to help out with directions and provide maps etc. Overall, my stay at the Rex was really comfortable and if I find myself back in Canberra would certainly stay here again.
I hadn't stayed at this hotel before until our interstate not for profit group hosted a symposium at the Canberra Rex. Renovations have brought the facilities up to a satisfactory contemporary level and guest rooms are comfortable. Mine had a separate lounge area, the bathroom was clean and modern and bedroom area was good. Toiletries were of a high quality. Breakfast was satisfactory though not remarkable. Catering for the conference was very good. Staff went out of their way to be of assistance. Swimming pool and gym areas were well set up.
Stayed at the Rex for 3 nights over the Easter holiday. The reasons we picked the Rex was that it was close to town and it was reasonably priced compared to some of the other hotels. I was pleasantly surprised. The hotel is elegant and the staff is very helpful and friendly. They also have a wonderful rooftop bar with great views of the city. My room was large and very clean and breakfast, which consisted of a large selection of hot and cold food, was included in the price. We had an enjoyable stay.
We stayed for 5 nights, including over the Easter Weekend. The location is great, a close drive to a lot of the Canberra sites. It is also in walking distance to a few very nice restaurants and bars. Our Kingsize room was clean and comfortable (not large) and the bathroom had a shower only (bath would have been nice). The things I liked about the hotel were: onsite parking (easy); free WiiFii, the pool and the Rooftop bar. The one thing I didn't like was the breakfast. The bacon and eggs were cold most mornings, as was the coffee. It would have been nice to have had some variety - every morning, the same items are served. I also didn't like the breakfast location which was obviously moved to one of the function rooms to accomodate more guests. It felt very impersonal sitting at a round table for 10 people or more and having two large screens blaring the morning TV show. The other area they use for breakfast is much nicer. The staff were always nice and accomodating; and I would stay there again despite the breakfast being average.
Staying for a conference, the room was business like but small. It has clearly been updated, with a nice large TV and some Foxtel channels. No bath, but a nice shower and nice amenities. My room on the 3rd floor had some really odd noises at night (sounded like the water running on and off through a washing machine) but it stopped after 30mins or so. The breakfast was ok, nothing to rave about, but included in the price. the coffee was awful - out of an urn.
King Room booked for 2 nights including breakfast. There was a great roof top bar which was serving Happy Hour on the Wednesday we arrived with great views. Our room was comfortable but not very big but the TV was big and the shower very powerful. Had everything we required. Check in staff very pleasant and helpful and had a very good breakfast on both days . There is no mini bar in the room but for me that wasn't a problem, The only negative was the Wifi. It was rubbish. Easy drive into the city or walk
Stayed for one night recently on a short trip to Canberra. Upon arrival at the hotel we were told we had been given a disabled room which was 'great for shower beers'..Neither i or my partner are disabled. The room smelled absolutely revolting but we were already late for a function we were attending so quickly dropped our bags off, opened the windows and hoped on our return later the smell would have gone. We arrived back quite late to our room and unfortunately the smell was still sickening. It got worse..the toilet actually had what looked like dried in faeces on the seat. Really disappointed with our stay, when we first arrived at the hotel i thought it looked stunning and just really expected more from the high price we paid.
The Crown Suite room was very spacious, comfortable, well appointed and quiet, and service was overall good. I was slightly disappointed, though, as it didn't have the promised balcony, or a coffee machine, which were both advertised as being included in the room I booked. On enquiry at reception, I was told that coffee machines were only being introduced at a later date, so I was surprised that the room directory had numerous pages included about how to use the coffee machine. We didn't have bathrobes supplied and it was a bit painful to have to ask for them 3 times before they were actually supplied. Another negative was that the en-suite had a fan and light which was activated by the slightest movement, which was extremely annoying. The free parking was great to have, as was the included buffet breakfast, which was plentiful and delicious, and catered for gluten free and lactose free options. The Rooftop Bar was excellent, an amazing space with a great view!
