Fabulous and beautifully refurbished. Great location and the staff are all so very friendly. The bathroom is fantastic with a great hot water flow. A hairdryer is available with beautiful bathroom products. The bathroom had a sensor light upon entry which us awesome. Tea and coffee available in the room with a kettle. The tv has all the usual suspects with 2 free movie options. Air conditioner is a bonus on the cold days. The bed was unfortunately one of the most uncomfortable beds we have ever slept in and we are a well travelled couple. After 3 nights in this bed we woke up each morning in pain, stiff and sore. The last morning I was in so much pain it actually hurt to breathe and I ached all over for 2 days. The bed was way too firm, painfully too firm. Wifi didn't drop out but I did have to sign in multiple times which isn't an issue. The tv connects to a HDMI cable or usb. The rooms is immaculate, the breakfast is amazing and the hotel sets to impress. Parking is limited but we didn't have an issue. If you like a firm bed I highly recommend this hotel.
Stayed here for a very brief visit to Canberra for business meetings. It has a good gym with swimming pool next door; and one can take a cab easily to most places to go in Canberra. The lake is within a 15k run from this hotel, weather permitting. When I stayed they was construction across the street though -- an above ground train system.
We booked three rooms. Two king with balcony and one standard queen room. All were very nicely presented: the balcony rooms were spacious, the bathrooms were very clean and the carpet was very clean and fresh. The beds were excellent and the heating very effective for the minus temperatures outside. The rate included breakfast and it was well done too- although on the first day we did arrive at peak hour which caused a few problems but planned better the next morning and had no issues. There was a wedding at the Hotel on the Saturday night and no noise problems in our room at all. The exterior of the hotel still needs to be renovated and some cleaning could be done on areas that can be seen from balcony when looking down. The parking was an issue on the night of the wedding-we had to park on the street.Overall we would stay again and felt that we got excellent value for money and a very pleasant weekend.
We stayed for the June long weekend. Great location, friendly service, yummy breakfast and overall, fantastic value for money. Some constructive feedback - car parking could be improved. Will come again and will recommend to our family and friends
We stayed here overnight. Good size room and bathroom. They have a gym and swimming pool next door (we didn't have the time to try either). Free parking and WiFi is always good. They have breakfast in your room rate if you are staying at the hotel. You need to pay if you are in the apartment's. The breakfast was a buffet spread with cold and hot options. It's really good. My only issue is with no microwave and this is something I have noticed in quite a few places we have stayed in the last couple of months. There are quite a few restaurants about a km away near Canberra Centre lots of options for food.
We have been staying at the Rex on and off for the past 10 years, and have seen it transformed from an outdated hotel into a comfortable modern one. Rooms are well appointed with comfortable bed, topped of with an enjoyable buffet breakfast. Staff have always been friendly and helpful, only thing is parking can be a problem with limited spaces. Good size lap pool and gym, however the free wi fi was slow. Well located and within walking distance to Civic and the restaurants on Lonsdale St.
Had to do a few days business in Canberra early June so chose Canberra Rex Hotel and selected an apartment which is located next door. They provided free car parking in a very secure basement. The Apartments also had a large indoor lap pool. Amazing thing about the apartment rooms was that they were so warm. Never had to put any heating on or the aircon. Maybe it had in floor heating? The apartment had a separate bedroom, very comfortable bed and good bathroom. A good sized kitchen with the basics including wine glasses and full sized fridge. The hotel is only a short drive to either Dickson or Braddon for numerous restaurants. I did not eat in the hotel as I met friends at restaurants but the menu looked good and not over-priced, unlike the brewery bar in Braddon where they charge $12.50 for a glass of house Shiraz! Parking in the main hotel car park is limited and outdoors.
The rooms were small, very comfortable beds, would like to see wine glasses in the room, breakfast very nice. Very disappointed there was no restaurant open on a sunday for meals or coffee. Parking is a big problem, there is no allocated parking for guest staying at the hotel, Saturday night was cold and wet, the hotel had 2 large functions on, so we could not find a parking spot, and were told by receptionist to park next door underneath, still no parking, found parking elsewhere, not good enough specially as my husband is quite sick. Receptionist told me nicely that the people at the functions not staying at the hotel were guests as well.
10 mins walk to food center and night life area. Rooms were clean and tidy, good price and breakfast was very nice and lots of it.Staff were friendly and helpful ,plenty of parking and with in 10 mins drive of most of Canberra's main attractions .
We went to the Rex hotel for a function recently and it was the worst food and service I have EVER had. The service was terrible as it took them 20 min to carry the plates out...two plates at a time...terrible for function service. Desert were cakes on one big plate on each table and NO small plates so we had to use our fingers. Sound system was terrible, scratchy and kept sparking. Never going back their again.
