I would recommend this motel any day . We had a lovely welcome on arrival and were even given beach towels. We were 3 to a room and it was spacious to say the least . The room was spotlessly clean and well equipped. We were at Byron bay for a family wedding this motel was an ideal location for our needs . The beach was just across the road and shops and restaurants all around . We found it very peaceful considering the location. Thank you to all the lovely staff who work so hard .
I stayed four nights at the Bay Motel, and was a little dubious before arriving, thinking it might be quite loud. But upon arrival we were greeted with the warmest welcome from the Manager, and enjoyed the rooms which were very clean and well kept, exceeding my expectations. This place has the best possible location. We loved walking across the road to the beach, then returning to our rooms for a quick freshen up before hitting Miss Margaritas! Seriously, it was perfect. Everything is so close and there’s free parking for your car! Bonus! You won’t be the one driving in circles looking for a carpark. 😉 And do yourself a favour and try those orgasmic falafels in Bay lane. Questionable name I know.

I really enjoyed my stay here! Stayed here last week with a friend in a double room. Very clean room, everything was there and we got beach towels at the check in. Also very important; the staff were really friendly and helpful with everything!!
I really enjoyed my stay at Bay Motel in Byron Bay, the rooms are nice and clean and the staff is super friendly and helpful. Especially Anouk from the housekeeping and reception. I would definitely come back!
So my review on the Bay Motel begins in 2017 when my friend & I stayed at the Hbiscus Motel, the then sister motel of the Bay Motel. When we checked out of the Hibiscus & wanted to rebook for 2018, we were advised by the lovely manager at the time that the Hibiscus was being sold & because the Hibiscus is being sold she would arrange to book us in at the Bay motel & get us comparable rates to what we paid at the Hibiscus, because apart from the Bay Motels location ( Bay is on the esplanade, Hibiscus is 100m back from the beach), there is no difference between the rooms at both motels in regards to standards. My friend & I were thrilled with this, the rooms at the Hibiscus weren't five star but neither were the rates so we were quite happy to stay at the Bay Motel. March 2018, check in to the Bay Motel went smoothly we meet the manager she was friendly, said sheets were changed on the beds daily, provided us with beach towels etc The room at the motel was clean & basic. Noise as mentioned in previous reviews is an issue. The hotel is right next to a hotel & the beach/park were people revel into the middle of the night is right across the road. Nothing earplugs won't fix though! There was a pump or something similar near our room, so it sounded like the toilet cistern was refilling every few minutes, but once again ear plugs!! The light timer on the verandah doesn't go of until 6am and because the drapes aren't that thick it lets a lot of light in, but nothing an eye mask won't fix & hey it's a budget Motel. So because of the price & clean facilities we decided to rebook for 2019. We love coming to Byron to eat, shop, sit on the beach, chill & soak up the Byron vibe. We spend as little as we can on clean comfortable accommodation the rest of the budget goes on food & shopping. So the day before checkout we approached the manager for a quote on 5 nights, Wednesday to Monday for March 2019. I also looked on a booking website to see what the rates may be for 2019, took a screen shot of it, but thought we are here, you always get a better rate if you book directly......how wrong could I be!! The quote the manager gave was close to $500 more than we paid for 2018 & it was $400 more than what I'd screen shot from a booking website the morning of our initial enquiry. We were told the weekend rate is $320 per night, with a reduced rate midweek. She dismissed the screen shot of what was there previous to her changing the rates would not honour it & basically was not at all interested in having us return. We expected a price rise but not a $500 price rise. The managers manner was dismissive, border line condescending & in her words she was there to improve the motels takings as they had not been charging enough for weekends for a while. This motel is NOT worth $320 a night any day of the week, it's clean (though sheets weren't changed every day as promised) noisy, great location but the manger does not have return customers best interests at heart.
This motel may be close to everything and across the road from main beach... but for the price we were very disappointed, the bed and pillows were uncomfortable, you could hear every noise from the street and outside the room. The reception staff were friendly and the room was very clean but for the price we were disappointed!
Just returned from a three night stay here. Check in was good even given towels for the beach . Room was very clean and equipped with kettle, toaster, microwave, fridge. Air con was really good. Staff were excellent. Hotel just across from the beach with lots of food choices behind. Parking was good. Shops nearby for any essentials required. Would definitely stay here again and would recommend to anyone.
Rang to book a room after looking at last minute deals online to see if it was the same price over the phone (as it was easier because we were in a bumpy car ride due to road works). Meredith the manger told me they didn't have a room for that price and didn't know what website I was looking at. So I booked online to save the extra $60 that Meredith was going to charge me over the phone (as it's always cheaper to book on line). Upon arrival Meredith was chatting out the front of the motel. We went into the reception were she immediately told me my booking is a conflict of interest as they didn't have a room at that price only the one she had quoted over the phone and that it was my fault as she already told me. I'm sorry Meredith but it's YOU that has to take the bookings down from availability if you have already sold the room to a walk in. What got me the most was Meredith's "computer says no" manner . Upon demand Meredith did ring the website to retrieve my money (at least) but I had to listen to her speaking to the website company very poorly whilst blaming me for her error. The website company even tried to prompt her on how to act in this situation i.e give me the room and take a loss due to your incompetence , but once again we(the website company and I) were told it's our fault. If someone had not rung first and booked online would it be their fault there is no availability? or is this just a ploy to get more then the advertised price? So anyway on a Sunday evening out of school holidays at 6pm you've lost a return customer and gained a poor review.
In addition to Danielle M’s comments below. I am the organiser of our annual week long family holiday to Byron Bay each year. I came back from a walk to find my family despondent and upset at the way they had been spoken to by the new manager, Meredith. She said she was calling the owner and all 21 of us would be evicted that night, as a smoke alarm had been set off, due to someone cooking in the unit. The family member in question was very apologetic when the smoke alarm was set off and immediately stopped cooking but Meredith would not listen or accept his apology. He even asked her to move the conversation elsewhere, as his 3 year old daughter was getting visibly upset at Meredith’s language towards him. She again ignored him and continued to abuse him, outside in the car park for everyone to hear. She also did not turn off the alarm and allowed the noise to continue so everyone at the motel came out to see what was happening. Note there are no notices in the rooms advising cooking is not allowed, nor on the Bay Motel website, nor were we advised on check in cooking was not allowed, however a microwave, toaster and kettle are provided. The Bay Motel website advises ‘New, fully-equipped kitchenettes”. The Oxford dictionary states a kitchenette as a small kitchen or part of a room equipped as a kitchen. The incident that set off the smoke alarm happened on the Thursday and to my amazement, Meredith did not turn on the common lights that night so we were in total darkness. I went to the office after 7:30pm and had to ask her to switch on the lights so we could see and not fall. We had young children with us and were concerned for them. Meredith was still angry from the incident that afternoon and did not speak to me or raise the issue. So I waited for her temper to cool and spoke to Meredith on the Sunday as we checked out. Her condescending manner towards me wanting to apologize again and resolve the issue only reinforced her behavior towards my family. When I wanted to calmly discuss what happened, she threw her arms in the air and shouted ‘I don’t want to talk about it’. I advised that her behavior was inappropriate and that she should have spoken to me as the organiser of the week and not spoken in that manner to a family member. She would not listen and was still angry and condescending towards me. I asked her if there was any damage and she advised she had not inspected the room as yet. I have taken photos of the room and kitchen area, showing there was no damage from the incident. I asked if she would be there next year and when she advised yes, I said we would not be returning. Her answer was ‘good’! She then went into the back room and slammed the door in my face. I have read other tripadvisor reviews and cannot believe they are referring to the same Meredith we encountered. Meredith should not be in a service industry that deals with members of the public. My husband and I have lived and travelled all over the world for the past 7 years and have never encountered anything like this. Also, I agree with John D review re cleaning. The rooms were not cleaned on one for the days we stayed there - a total of 7 nights. It is a shame as the Bay Motel is in a great location, the girls that do the cleaning are friendly and efficient. The previous Managers were also friendly and accommodating. It’s a budget motel. You get what you pay for. I will be lodging a formal compliant with the owner, Peter Croke due to Meredith's disgraceful behavior. No wonder she had a vacancy sign outside all week, when all other accommodation was fully booked! Meredith forgot she is in Byron - Cheer up slow down chill out!
