This is a very special place to stay, ideally located just off the busy main street and with good parking. We ourselves were given an upgrade from a double room to one with a lounge area, which was very well equipped, and had beautiful, well-maintained decor; the bed itself looked antique but was extraordinarily comfortable, even for someone with a sore back. The main building is historic and full of character, and the staff are well trained and smartly turned out. The breakfast was cooked to perfection and beautifully presented. It would have been worthy of an 'excellent' rating if my request for fried bread hadn't been refused with the excuse that everything was being prepared in the oven (even fried eggs?!) - that was especially disappointing in view of the prices charged. Nevertheless, in every other way the service was exemplary, and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
Lovely location but arrived to find out (despite booking months in advance) there had been confusion over the fact we’d ordered a vegetarian afternoon tea for 4. Mistakes happen but the staff acted annoyed at us for the mistake rather than apologising and resolving the issue. We were then served the stalest scones I’ve ever tasted, they were barely edible. Overall incredibly disappointing. This afternoon tea was bought as a gift and feels like an utter disappointment and waste of money.
A beautiful property made of lots of different buildings with a cottage feel. Very "Cotswolds". Plentiful parking onsite is a bonus. Rooms are beautiful although we had 2 rooms - and the smaller needed some improvements: - No window covering, only a sheer blind in bathroom so could see in - The 2 twin beds were old and bouncy, creaky, definitely overdue replacement and you wouldn't want to sleep more than one night on them. The other room was better. - The twin room was on top of a hotel laundry so you could hear dryers going quite late, and starting quite early (maybe reduce the operational times) Breakfast was lovely. Very good food - but let down by a waitress (larger. lady) who seemed to be in a bad mood. She had a process, and we had to do it in her order - drinks, then toast, then hot food - it seemed impossible to order everything we needed at the same time. When some things didn't come she was unapologetic and just grunted and looked annoyed. I'll give her the benefit of the doubt and say she was just having a bad day. All in all an excellent property with parking, and certainly gave our Aussie family the "Cotswold" experience. Very family friendly (although you might want to skip breakfast in the very adult quiet restaurant). Although the nice pictures on the website of teddy bears on pillows for kids weren't actually the reality - but they are available to buy. But...fix the twin beds!
We stayed at this hotel celebrating my wife's birthday. The staff there could not have done more to help us celebrate. The hotel is full of character, stylish and very comfortable. The restaurant is great and all of the staff we met were outstanding.
We had a wonderful two night stay at the Bay Tree recently. We stayed in The Chestnut Room which was huge. Very comfortable and clean. Lovely atmosphere! Only downside was the evenings had turned a little chilly - my husband suffers with kidney disease and feels the cold even more than I do! I did ask if the heating would be on on the evenings and was told by the lady on reception that yes it would be on. Unfortunately that didn’t happen. Yes we did check the controls on the radiators etc but no heating anywhere. Still we snuggled up in the huge bed so it wasn’t too much of a problem. This is our second visit and would definitely stay again!! I have done a separate restaurant review - Pab the restaurant manager is an absolute gem!!
Amazing place to stay, beautiful clean room. friendly, profesional staff, couldn't do enough for you. Had breakfast and evening meals here and weren't disappointed. Hotel is quirky but beautifully modernised and just off Burford high street. Would definitely stay here again.
Stayed here one night for a friends wedding. Check in was quick and friendly. The place is lovely, all well decorated, very clean. Nice space both indoors and outdoors. Food was good, good options for breakfast also.
If you’re looking for a quiet, quaint English hotel stacked with original historic features then this place is for you. We stayed in the oak room which faces out onto the front of the hotel; with its lead windows, low beams and stone fireplace it was decorated to a very high standard. At the same time it had all the mod cons: it’s a classy well run hotel with very efficient staff. I would highly recommend the place.
We stayed in the Oak Suite for our 13th wedding Anniversary and this Hotel couldn't do anymore to make the occasion so special. It is excellently placed both for Burford and the Cotswolds generally. The Oak Suite is very elegant and homely and has recently been re-decorated and now has a whirlpool bath. The Bedroom is so large, the additional adjoining lounge is perhaps superfluous but its nice to stretch out, in any case. The breakfast was fresh, well cooked and served by very friendly, helpful staff. The Hotel has its own private car park which is very important for the centre of Burford and a delightful garden which everybody is allowed to enjoy. The service is very attentive & helpful and a printed leaflet is even available for a nice 5 mile walk round the edge of Burford that even includes a stroll along the riverbank of the River Windrush, which is very nice. Can't recommend this lovely Hotel enough, although the addition of a fridge with fresh milk in it would be appreciated. Complimentary milk is available from Reception but it would be nice to have some without having to ask for it.
In August 2019 The Baytree Hotel provided an excellent venue for our daughter's civil wedding which was superb. The hotel organisation was excellent and by taking over the entire 21 rooms of the Baytree we were able to provide family and friends with a highly memorable and exciting event. The food was first class which all the guests commented on and the staff were very attentive and accommodating right through to the early hours. The rooms too were all commented on for their individual appointment and comfort.
