Novotel Brussels Centre Midi Station4.0 out of 5.0

Situated in a somewhat run down area near Brussels Midi station the Novotel is an excellent position for those arriving by train. The room was large and very clean, the breakfast varied and plentiful and the staff helpful and friendly.
We were a bit unsure when we arrived at the hotel, it was more like a hostel, but when we got in the staff were absolutely brilliant, there was a few stairs to climb to get to our room but we were delighted with the room even though it was small the furniture was well thought out, it was minimal yet ample for all we needed. The location was perfect for the train station and an easy 0 minute walk into the town centre, absolutely loved the place.
My boyfriend and I spent 4 nights here at the end of December. We chose this hotel because it was very close to Midi station where the Eurostar stops and also where you can take trains to other cities such as Bruges and Ghent. To get to the hotel from the station you literally cross the street and walk 2 min. It’s very convenient! To visit the city centre you can get the metro (2.10 Euro each way) from midi or you can walk for 15 min max. We walked every day and saved quite a bit on transport. The room in the hotel was spotless, super comfy bed, powerful shower and very quiet (room 805 on 8th floor). Couldn’t fault it. We also got breakfast included with out room which I would wholeheartedly recommend. Lovely dining area and very friendly waitresses. There was a wide variety of choice: several different types of cereal and toast, fruit, pastries (croissants, muffins, donuts etc), cold meats, cheese, smoked salmon, scrambled and boiled eggs, bacon, sausages... very nice coffee and juice too. The check- in and out was very quick and easy and the lady in reception was very lovely too helping us with directions etc. Would definitely stay here again as I think it’s excellent value for money.
I had booked a Novotel instead of some local hotel as I at least wanted basic amenities, but it was very surprising that the restaurant did not serve lunch or dinner for the 2 nights we stayed. The HVAC in the rooms were not working properly and we felt suffocated in the rooms. The room service staff did not speak English, so that was inconvenient for us. After the first night, I enquired at the reception to move us to the other Novotel Hotel near the city center, but they refused by saying that "the other Novotel is run by another management".
It is one of the hotels very close to the train station and they also pack breakfast to go if you have to catch an early train. The check-in / out is super quick and the reception staff are very nice. Rooms are very basic but clean.
The hotel is very well located for the Eurostar terminal and is within easy walking distance of the city centre. I felt the €20 charge for breakfast was too high and so took something from one of the many cafes I passed on my way to work. I had a 'garden' facing room which was quiet and more than adequate. WiFi connection was good.
Cool hotel but the surroundings are not safe (Not dangerous either but you don't feel really secure in the area, It's not the hotel fault though) The service during the check in was too slow but the check out was super.
I travelled with my husband for work and spent 2 nights. We needed a hotel situated close to the center with secured parking. The communication went since the beggining very well and the hotel fulfilled every demand we had. The most positive thing about the whole stay was the personnel - they really made us feel like at home. After our first day of work (we are artists and worked till late night hours) we found a special note from the manager with a little surprise in the room to help us relax and recover. The reception stuff (especially the night receptionist) was very nice and helpful, we had like 15min chat together before we went to sleep after a difficult night. Rooms are extremely quiet considering the fact that the hotel is right in front of the station! I can't comment on breakfast because we were really tired to wake up soon and we didn't ask for late breakfast/bfst in the room since we had a business lunch next day at noon. I heard others though commenting that they are worth it so next time we come back we are def waking up for breakfast :) I should also mention the hotel's bar - if you are a beer lover, go there! You will have a possibility to try rather delicious authentic trapist beers! Rooms are very clean, our bathroom had a red light which warms up the room when you get out of the shower (<3 !), comfy beds (it's been a long time I haven't had such a sleep in a hotel). Housekeeping stuff very helpful as well. Price worth a superior quality. Big up for personnel as I said. We are def coming back.
I'm honest as anything in my reviews and tell it like it was. The hotel itself was fine, no doubt. It really done the job with a decent sized bedroom. However if you get the front bedrooms keep that window closed otherwise you'll hear the trains clunk clank all night and morning. I never tried the breakfast as I had to leave early so grabbed it on route. Check in was a breeze and staff very polite (thank you). Parking is virtually non existing around this part. Travelling from the UK via Holland I needed somewhere safe to park he car. I've read of other reviews saying this area was a bit rough. I took this with some weight behind it and emailed Novotel ahead to see if I could reserve a parking space. I had no reply at all from anyone. Nevertheless, I arrive and managed to park right outside. I dash in and ask them how the parking works and how I access it (not wanting to get a parking ticket). Parking accessed and I checked in. A word of warning here, I came back down in the evening out of the front of the hotel and a BMW had it's window smashed in with glass all over the pavement. The owner had only went in the hotel for 2 minutes to ask for directions to the car park but in the mean time had his contents on the front seat stolen. Not the hotels fault whatsoever but gives you a general feel of the area based on the other review as well. If I had one moan, it would be about the hotel/group not providing an answer to my question when emailed. It may have prevented that guys vehicle being broken into if he knew exactly what he had to do to enter the car park, instead of park outside and get instructions like me. So in my experience, the hotel is great, staff are great, trains are a bit noisy so close the windows, area is a bit rough but try and blend in (don't be the tourist), old square is about a nice 20 minute walk away, and to get in the car park; To the left of the entrance there is a garage roller door, park facing that, get out (with your keys) press the button, door opens and away you go. It is tight so be careful.
Stayed for 3 nights for work as handy for conference location. On second night requested restaurant suggestion and was sent North with poor directions into dark and unsavoury part of town. Never found the restaurant and returned a bit freaked out. Third night woke up at 4 am scratching desperately at left arm. In sleepy brain fog dismissed this as mosquito bites (although it is end of November) but by 12 hours later 2 large swollen bumps with oozing centres points to beg bugs .... Breakfast pretty ordinary with mediocre fruit salad, standard rubbery scrambled eggs ... Will avoid in future.
