The Empire Country club has to be one of the worlds greatest hotels. The Resort spans an enormous area with golf courses, a 3 cinema multiplex, bowling alley, golf driving range, enormous pool, small shopping mall, private beaches, restaurants and more. Everywhere you look is opulence, from the real gold clad pillars to the inlaid marble floors, the exquisite timber paneling. Everywhere you look every item is done perfectly down to the finest detail. The rooms have marble bathrooms, the beds are comfortable and large with beautiful Italian cotton sheets and feather doonas and pillows The A/C is very quiet, the views from our ocean view room were superb. Our loom had an entrance hall a walk in robe as well as the huge bedroom and ensuite. The staff from the reception, Concierge, food staff, cleaners were all first class and preformed as you would expect from a luxury hotel, nothing was too much trouble, money changing can be done at reception. Please also note this is a no alcohol resort, I believe you can bring some in and drink it it the privacy of your rooms but none is available at the resort We arrived during Ramadan which meant Muslims and non Muslims were not allowed to eat or drink in public from 5.30 am to 6.30 pm but the Zest café was open for take away snacks , The pastries there would have to be the best I have ever seen so this was not much of a sacrifice. We just took our food back to our rooms and ate there. It would be nice if the resort offered a nice private eating area somewhere on the grounds where we could eat and not offend any Muslims. Just a note on Fridays from 12.00 till 2.00pm everything closes for prayer, this happens every week without exception. I am trying to think of any down sides to the resort, the pool was quite warm and not so refreshing, and this may seems strange but while we were there the occupancy rate was 15% . Now this you might think would be incredible and it was a pleasant shock to begin with but after awhile the resort seemed almost like an abandoned site you would see in a documentary and therefore lost some of it’s splendor through it’s emptiness. The sporting and cinema facilities are excellent , you have to pay for bowling and the cinema at the venues, both were around $6.00 Brunei. There is no ATM at the resort and possibly only one at the airport so you need to find one before you get there as there is very little around the resort . Airport transfers take around 30 minutes and cost about $50.00 for a van. Golf was quite expensive I thought at $60 for 9 holes with around another $30 for club hire but this included a buggy. The Empire country club is more like a 6 star hotel and should be the place to stay if you have a stopover in Brunei
A really beautiful place to stay. What great about this hotel is that outside tourist can go around the hotel and enjoy this amazing place, the hotel itself is a tourist spot. You should visit while in Brunei.
I've spent 3 weeks in this fontastic resort, for a business trip in Brunei. Excellent experience for : The location and the beautiful panorama from the beach The big outdoor swimming pools are, the service is excellent. The room, very confortabile, well arranged, very silent, very clean. Room service, always available and on time. Transportation services, perfect The zest cafe, their cakes, his service team The overall experience has been great, some tips for improvement: Overall good quality and choice in the restaurant, hire some additional western chef to make the menu perfect Shampoo and shower in the room gel are good but not at the level of excellence of the resort Free internet connection is pretty slow, even if it is available almost everywhere in the complex.
This gargantuan hotel is free to enter anytime without a cost just to go for a sight-seeing. It's magnificent and has everything and stands just by the coast making it a great place to watch the sunset by the bench or even the grass. The contrast between the hotel's luxurious amber-laden interior goes perfectly well with the exterior's lush and vibrant forest coupled with a lovely beach just past the swimming pools. I would definitely recommend for a visit.
Have stayed here a few times and am always impressed with level of service from the staff. Very large resort, cinema, large selection of pools, golf course, spa plus gym / squash courts etc. Although it's a large hotel with a number of rooms, it never feels crowded. Beach is pristine and unspoiled, very pleasant area to have a pre-dinner walk. Food is good although evenings are quiet and an early bed! Rooms are very large and well proportioned, very comfortable beds. Only downside if you're room only is that breakfast is circa SGD30 - I can't eat enough food in the morning to justify that expense! However, there is a 24hr patisserie near to the main lobby which serves tea, coffee, juice and a wide range of croissants, sandwiches etc which is more reasonable
We have been to there for 02 nights & 3 days. Its a very huge property spanning over few hectare, all lush green with residential & recreational buildings. The main building & the entrance was beautiful while you enter to. Staff was cordial at reception, though we were little early than usual checking tie however accommodated. We were little disappointed on allotment of our rooms but soon accompanied by a Punjabi lady (Manager) (missing the name) who took us to different tower, ocean view. We found that place much better and having clear partial view of south china sea. Though she warn us of monitor lizard during night time on walk ways & snake in the balcony during the day & specially at night.....We didn't find anything suspicious during our stay. The breakfast was not very good to a 5 star range. Limited options & therefore we skipped next day's breakfast in hotel & went outside. THe hotel premises has a lot to offer & a family can easily spend 5 days within the hotel. The main highlight is the hotel cinema & pool activities. Don't forget to ask for a buggy ride that takes you around the property which is a very nice experience. Though there were good restaurant within the hotel but we went out to try best of Brunei. The room was neat & clean, spacious and bathroom was excellent. Consumables were upto the mark and available. The hotel is spacious & good in acoustic to allow you a complete peaceful environment. Since Brunei is a zero pollution place therefore its wise to visit again & stay in the same property for more days. Checkout procedures were very simple & easy.
Patricia, my wife and I are well-seasoned international travellers. Now domiciled in sunny Queensland in Australia, we have stayed at some of the best hotels in the world. Patricia formerly worked for the Chairman of Thomas Cook Australia in Sydney. Our private itineraries were well planned. In London in the period 1957-60, as a student I worked part time in The Dorchester, Grosvenor House, Savoy Hotel, London Hilton and other top rated West End hotels. Add to this the many hotels we have stayed at in recent years, we are certainly qualified to undertake informed reviews. Without doubt, The Empire Hotel & Country Club in Brunei Darussalam is top of our list. We were privileged to stay at this splendid hotel in February 2010. The hospitality afforded is beyond compare. The amenities are indeed wonderful. Particularly the scuba diving on reefs in the South China Sea arranged for us by the obliging hotel management. The luxurious accommodation facilities are notable: loads of black marble, gold taps, space, escalators, shopping precinct, our ocean facing room, et. al. Patricia and I immensely enjoyed our stay. We consider The Empire to be six star.... Not to be missed by travellers....
A lovely hotel to be in (the best in Brunei). It's worth a visit, even if it's just for an afternoon tea. Check-in and check-out were quick and easy, service is great. It is in a great location too. Only downfall was that breakfast isn't included in the room rate and the deluxe room balcony could be cleaned (birds had made a mess). The swimming pool is a must.
Elegantly decorated hotel with golf course. But my stay at ocean view was in a separated building that was more like a condo unit. There were no facility and disappointing view. Overpriced and breakfast not even included. The room itself was large and comfortable with extra large bathroom. However, all restaurant outlets and shops are in the main building including the grand swimming pools.
Didn't have chance to stay at this luxurious hotel yet. But visited their lobby cafe and enjoyed special mix drinks and tasty cakes. Go for the Vit C Booster, super nice. Friendly staff and beautiful views everywhere.
