The Empire Hotel & Country Club5.0 out of 5.0

I had stayed at the Empire last year and revisited again a couple of weeks ago. Was pleasantly reminded of the splendor of the hotel and the very polite and courteous hotel staff. Great place for a quiet weekend!
It is a grand resort, but does need some updating. The building was grand, the grounds and views great. The staff were okay, could have done with many more. The sunset is a must see! Not many eating options, zest was good for coffee. Breakfast was okay. Had dinner at spaghettini- expensive and not good, again they could have had more staff
11.45 on Friday and eating options (lunchtime) are non existent (12-2pm). We had take away sandwiches from Zest. Tuna melt was poor quality & very low on tuna. Usually have a side salad with sandwiches but received nothing. Salmon & cream cheese bagel didn't have any cream cheese in it. Should have a discount if 'take away' food. Chairs in the lobby had bits of food stuck on them....yuck!!! Toilets near shops were below expectations. No toilet roll or hand towels. There weren't any sunshades around the lagoon pool. Definitely not 5 star service or quality.
It's not very often you get to see pure opulence in a hotel and actually stay there. From entering the main lobby/reception area you immediately get a feeling for the magnificence of the Empire Hotel. The gold plated pillars and painted dome ceiling are awe inspiring. Check in at reception was smooth and all the staff are very friendly. I recommend spending the money on the Deluxe rooms. All have ocean views and give free access to the executive lounge. The deluxe rooms all have balconies, a large bedroom and beautiful ensuite bathroom. The high tea from 2-6 pm in the main lobby is excellent value for money and allows you to enjoy the main lobby. Often has a piano player on weekends. Other options for food are the Pantai dinner buffet- it's a bit pricey but good value and plenty of sea food. Also try Spaghettini's above the reception area in the main lobby. Excellent pizza and pasta. The hotel staff are all friendly and courteous. The overall experience is well worth the price and by Western/European standards very affordable. There are very few hotels in the world that offer this unique opportunity to stay in a hotel that was built for royalty. Definite recommend!
We stayed here for 1 night and were blown away by the quality of the hotel. The room was immaculate. We both agreed that it was the best hotel we’ve stayed in. The pool area is vast and extremely relaxing. The food in Pantai was amazing and the service we received was faultless throughout our stay. We also loved Zest which is a little coffee shop near reception that is definitely worth a visit.
Few hotels remain that genuinely provide "hidden secret" value for money and incredible offerings. This is one of those. The quality of rooms, sizes, bedding, linen, service and facilities is up there with the top 3 % of hotels I've ever visited. Built as a former palace for the sultans son, this property not only has a brilliant level of offering in all areas, but the atmosphere and vibe is wonderful.
This is indeed the most impressive hotel I have ever been. A gigantesque set of buildings with vast halls and common spaces, really nice restaurants, 18-hole golf course of international standards, very many swimming pools and amenities of the highest quality. What is even more impressive is the politeness of the staff and their overt and honest willingness to offer everything.
I stayed at this hotel resort with my friend. The resort was huge. A movie theater, golf clubs, bowl lanes, and etc were included in the resort. Swimming pool was nice and calm. The hotel room wasn't that new but big and clean. A breakfast in the restaurant wasn't that good, but a lunch buffet in the restaurant next to the pool was awesome. The food in that restaurant was all good. The staff service was also pretty nice.
Had the chance recently to stay for a couple of nights at this so-called 6-star hotel. It met some expectations and exceeded some others. Not too many bad things to say about my all-too-short stay there. The room I was in had a classic style decor which was actually quite homey in direct contrast to the modern luxurious vibe I was expecting for some reason. Loved the huge soft inviting bed, the amazing view from the room, and absolutely loved the big deep bath tub which I spent ages in with lots and lots of scented bubbles. That huge swimming pool is something else! Wide-spread area, gorgeous views, and great service from attentive staff. One thing I and some others didn't like though was that some non-local females were in skimpy swimwear but the staff didn't appear to say or do anything so maybe local values not too much of a concern here? The food served at the Atrium cafe will be shared in a separate review, and think I've shared about the Pantai ("beach" in Malay) Restaurant already.
I stayed at The Empire last week during the Hari Raya Aidilfitri. The hotel is definitely impressive with spacious landscape and gardens. It is a grandeur. The quality of the building is absolutely highest level. Size of the room and the amenities are generous. My room # 3405 is an ocean view and I enjoyed sitting in the balcony for the ocean breeze and feel the tranquility. In general, service is good and staff are charming and helpful, although there is always room to improve. Restaurant staff are super friendly and helpful, many of them are not local. Foods are delicious and varies especially the Buffet Dinner in Pantai and the Spaghetti. Empire will be the best place to stay on your visit to Brunei.
