Bristol stay

We have stayed in most of the harbour hotels in salcombe, st Ives, sidmouth etc and always found them to be very good. Clean, attentive service and facilities. Bristol in comparison does not compare and feels like any other city centre hotel. There were stains on a lot of the carpets. The place la led the clean vibrant atmosphere of the harbour hotels. We were told there was a charge to use the pool which we never have before and it was tiny so didn’t bother. The complimentary gin again was there but there was no tonic so you had to pay to have the tonic again that’s never happened before. Having stayed at salcombe beach harbour hotel before this where the guy collected our bags from the car park and to our room. Here we struggled ourselves upto the room. There was just no attention by staff to detail or going the extra mile. All products were nearly empty in the rooms and not replenished. No topping up of tea coffee biscuits etc on day 2. It feels very much like guests are left to sort it out themselves. Maybe relying on wedding bookings instead of guest services. Not to the high standard we come to expect from the harbour hotels and would not return.

Overpriced and everything is extra!

We arrived and were told that breakfast was not included, even though I booked a room with breakfast. The spa which was a big sell of this property was also an additional charge. The staff was rude as we watched the person before us check in and was offered also sorts of perks… we were soaked from the rain and after the front desk helped the person she asked if she could grab her jacket as she was cold so made us wait even longer. (Mind we were dripping wet) also had I known the spa and breakfast were not included before the booking I would have stayed somewhere else. As I booked a non-refundable room I couldn’t cancel when they notified about the spa charge 24 hours before arrival.

Great location, extra charge for spa, poor gym

Disappointing that there was an additional charge for the spa facilities, for only an hour slot. Shower wasn’t working by the sauna/steam room, which meant you had to keep walking back out of the spa and through the reception area to take a shower (made me doubt the cleanliness of the spa). Gym was very small/basic with limited equipment and lots of things broken. Staff were a little defensive. I don’t drink so didn’t make use of the complementary gin in the room, but coffee pods in the room were nice. Overall not great value for money, but the location was good, and room was comfortable and clean

Nice hotel, great location.

Great location. The hotel is nice but we found our deluxe room was too hot (air con only went down to 18 degrees but didn’t seem to cool the room at all) we couldn’t keep the window open without propping it up with a toilet roll. The bed was very comfortable and the Bramley toiletries were lovely but it would have been a nice touch to have a bedside clock in the room. The elevator and dining room floor could do with a really good clean. The bar closed early and staff were more concerned about setting up for breakfast which was a shame when we returned to the hotel for drinks after seeing an evening show. Not really worth £265 per night in our opinion. Minor point but if you have coffee pods in the room it would be helpful to have a menu as to the type of coffees to chose from.

Didn't even end up staying here. The way the staff on reception spoke to and treated us, we decided it wasn't for us. We stayed in the Bristol Hotel instead, which was a massive blessing in disguise because it was absolutely brilliant. Would highly recommend trying the Bristol before you book here.
