Have thought of staying here several times before and wondering now why waited so long. Couldn't fault from checking in, to restaurant, room, all exceeding expectations. Wanted too long to come but won't wait long for return. Great value in Brisbane
The ideal combination of efficiency and warm thoughtful service from a very well trained team made our stay organised, welcoming and relaxed with every request met effortlessly. An example of this was the rooftop bar left lit and open for us for an after dinner visit, with the honesty bar available by the charming Dutch staff member, for whom nothing was a problem.
We went to Brisbane for family reasons and thought we'd try Spicers Balfour Hotel. We were more than pleasantly surprised... many reviews extol the virtues of hotels, and they are a good guide, however, our experience was really wonderful. It wasn't until we were upgraded to a suite that we realised that Spicers Balfour is a little more like a resort in suburban New Farm than a hotel. The suite was really lovely. Our suite was in a beautifully restored post-federation House, where the old verandah now served as a sitting room with business space and bar/coffee station with small sink. I usually look at the bathroom as a litmus to express the quality of the establishment... and wow, I haven't seen a bathroom like the bathroom in our suite. We haven't stayed in a '6 Star' yet, however, thats how I'd rate ours... spacious without being ridiculous, luxurious and really nicely maintained with lovely hand and body products 'on hand' (punny...? probably not.). If you judge by the bathroom scale then you shouldn't be disappointed. Comfort bed with a variety of pillows and blankets, nicely mounted wall TV with Fox and free wifi if that is what you like. And the breakfast... if someone says its the best in Brisbane to us again, then you really have to listen, because it IS! What really adds the polish to Spicers Balfour is the appropriately friendly service, where nothing is too much to ask. If you are tossing up where to stay, don't. Stay at Spicers Balfour Hotel. (BTW, this isn't a paid review, we have no other relationship with Spicers Balfour other than very satisfied guests.)
One of the things that makes a business trip infinitely more enjoyable, is if I get to stay somewhere where I feel like home. From the minute I walk into Spicers Balfour Hotel, it's like I'm with old friends who are happy to see me. For me, that means every day ends - and starts - with me feeling great. The rooms are all unique and the property is just delightful to stay at. Food is fantastic and the service exemplary. It's always my Go-To if I'm in Brisbane.
We tried the high tea here and came away with rave reviews. The service was impeccable, friendly, warm and attentive. The decor was lush and modern. The high tea itself was very good but a few touches could have taken it to fantastic such as: - a selection of black teas (only English breakfast, earl gray and chai available) - better scones (a lone sad tiny scone) - fine china crockery and teapot (sorry Maxwell and Williams won’t cut it!)
Booked for one night as leaving on cycle ride early next morning from Story Bridge. Onsite parking included, and a quiet peaceful location. Slept really well in very comfortable bed. Nespresso machine and tea in room, but tiniest fridge I’ve ever seen. Appreciated opening windows and fresh air, and quirky comfy decor. Will definitely stay again for longer and explore the area from this lovely base as well as sample rooftop bar. All staff were super friendly and warm.
This is the perfect hotel for those who enjoy a top notch boutique experience. The setting is lovely although not in the city center. We did walk to the downtown area.Rooms are beautiful;Staff terrifically friendly and helpful. The restaurant offers the best, most imaginative breakfasts to eat inside or on the picturesque deck.
The Balfour is not the premium venue that the other Spicers venues boasts unfortunately. It has the bones of a great stay, but the detail is not there which is such a great shame. We are frequent guests of Sangoma another of the Spicers properties, and I must say it is as if they are not a part of the same group.
This is a lovely hotel fairly close to everything Brisbane has to offer. Easy enough to drive to and they offer parking at the hotel. Our room was a suite located in the “Simla” building, which is located a couple of houses down from the main hotel where the restaurant and bar is located. Well appointed, and more a 4 than 5 star situation in my opinion. It doesn’t meet the standards of other 5 star properties we’ve stayed at. For some reason management/owners of this hotel have decided to no longer serve dinner. The reason we stayed here was I won a gift voucher including one nights stay and a 3 course dinner for two as part of a charity auction bid I placed. So imagine my surprise when I called up to confirm our reservation and discuss a few dietary requirements we have, only to get an email reply to my phone message saying we no longer offer dinners and we can replace your 3 course meal with a platter and a bottle of wine. Say what? I got upset of course, and had an email exchange with the assistant general manager, where she was very courteous and understanding of our disappointment. I realise of course that this wasn’t her decision or fault, she really did what she could to compensate us and this was all good. Also when we arrived we had been upgraded to a suite which was a very nice gesture and much appreciated. All in all I was ok with the outcome and the staff went out of their way to make our stay as pleasant as possible, so all good. The breakfast menu is also very good, not just your stock standard offerings, and this is very refreshing. The reason for a 4 and not 5 star review is that we did still miss out on what we originally expected, and also I don’t think the hotel overall lives up to a 5 star status. It’s lovely and a great place to stay, not fully 5 star quality though. Staff is lovely and we do appreciate everything they did to look after us. Overall a positive experience, though a few hickups along the way.
This lovely hotel is friendly and welcoming. Each room is different, ours had a private deck. The restaurant opens for breakfast, lunch, and late night snacks. There are no restaurants within walking distance for dinner. The rooftop bar is delightful for drinks.
