Spicers Balfour is just the type of hotel Goldilocks would have loved. Not too big, not too small. it's big enough that everything is there - a great restaurant, excellent service, full amenities and then some, but small enough so the design, feel and friendliness of the place has real appeal. The rooms are beautiful with a genuine deco feel but with everything the modern world demands. And the staff are terrific. Well recommended.
Indulge yourself in this luxurious hotel nestled in a leafy cool corner of Brisbane. The rooftop bar is NOT to be missed - enjoy your favorite drink and savor the views of the city skyline. The food and service is top shelf.
i couldn’t recommend this hotel more - the staff were lovely, the atmosphere was extremely relaxed whist maintaining an air of luxury and overall it was a fantastic experience i’m keen to repeat. extra compliments to the chef who was phenomenal and wait staff who were outgoing, funny and attentive. 10/10
We had previously stayed at Spicers Grandchester where we have experienced extremely high standards of Spicers hospitality and food magic. Spicers Balfour in Brisbane did not live up to the same high expectations. This is my experience only and may also have been influenced by our stay being over New Year's Eve with some busy days for the restaurant and closures on other days. The good bits: The staff are very friendly and helpful. The hotel is quaint and generally quiet, a unique offering set in an old-fashioned Queenslander in a leafy suburb, close to the river and transport. The room was very clean, and housekeeping very attentive. The bad bits: We stayed in room 7 opposite the ladies toilet and next door to what sounded like the restaurant storage room. The room was quite small and too dark, no views (facing a grey wall). The restaurant. We were not informed correctly of opening times which are quite limited, leaving us scrambling for food elsewhere twice, and the alternative options we found weren't particularly pleasant. When dining at the restaurant, the market fish was over seasoned and camel croquette lacked some jus. (The suckling pig and truffle mash however were delicious.) The restaurant could do with streamlined processes as orders went missing. Limited outdoor parking. Overall this hotel could be very good but it needs some tweaking.
There is a lot to love about Spicers New Farm. The location is perfect for a city get away with great activities all within a 'leave your car behind' radius. The roof top bar was an excellent way to unwind and we were lucky enough to have a room with a balcony. The rooms were well appointed, with nice touches including pod coffee, plush robes and smart furnishings. The breakfast menu had some great points of difference from the norm. There is some room for improvement on food service, nothing major but a couple of things added up (we waited an hour for an antipasto platter, some food was unavailable off the menu, and cold coffee was returned). Not a problems for staff - they were all most pleasant. Nothing was a show stopper, just a little less than what we normally receive at a Spicers retreat. We would absolutely return.
Decided to take a day off from travelling and treat ourselves to a night here. beautiful venue very nice staff. The food and standard of service were impeccable. The room was also excellent could not fault it in any way
Stayed for our anniversary (again), but in the newer suites. Beautiful rooms but it’s the food and service that makes this place special. Looking forward to visiting some of the others in the Spicer network. Throughly recommended
Stayed in room 1 with a charming balcony however noisy people at the afternoon tea dampened our intended relaxing afternoon prior to going out for the evening. The restaurant dinner and breakfast was truly amazing. We couldn't get access to the rooftop bar as it was closed for a private function. Just feel its somewhere I'd come back and dine at as opposed to stay at. Did not appreciate the sound of vacuuming from the restaurant at 7am....
My husband and I spent the night away at the Balfour and everything was impeccable! I booked initially online and spoke with the reservations team to customise what turned out to be the best birthday surprise I have ever given my husband. The service that we received from check in to check out was fantastic. The food was incredible! Emu, camel, lamb, wagyu, fish, peach parfait and decadent chocolate doughnuts for dinner! The chef even honoured us with a tasting of his Christmas turkey dish he was creating. Neither of us a breakfast people, but that had to be the best breakfast I’ve had in years! I’m so glad we pulled ourselves out of the amazingly comfortable bed to indulge at the Balfour kitchen again. The suite we were upgraded to was amazing, the goosedown pillows (I’m definitely buying some for home, thank you for the information on them Yolandie), insanely comfortable king bed, a bath that my 6”4 husband could lie down in, nespresso coffee pods (which was a very welcomed morning surprise), bright and very tastefully decorated with a comfortable and homely layout. I would like to make a special mention to our waiter, Harvey (I hope I have that right!!). You made our night fantastic! Your knowledge of not only the Balfour, restaurant and hotel, but of the entire Spicers retreats is commendable. You are a fantastic asset to this business!! To the whole Balfour team, Thank you!! This was another Spicers getaway that will not soon be forgotten! We look forward to our next visit. S & H Tolliday.
The rooms are amazing, absolute luxury. Perfect for a romantic city weekend getaway. Good location to cafes, city etc. Staff are very friendly and accommodating. Would recommend for that "city stay with a difference".
