Close to cafes and the North cape walk. We enjoyed our stay but pity all the beds were so uncomfortable and the kitchen needed a good spring clean and removal of rusted out items. We stayed in room 18
Lovely 1st floor apartment (#18) with great view of the ocean - perfect for watching all the whales go by. Well stocked, comfortable. Well decorated and spotless. Close to the small township of Point Lookout, and cliff walks. Very relaxing. Ask for top floor for best views. A little expensive for location. One hint: gets very cold in the evening in July and aircon is only in the bedroom (not living area) so had to ask for a portable heater which the hosts happily supplied.
We have stayed here twice and enjoyed it both times. We've stayed on the ground floor and the top and had good views of the ocean and back beach both times. The units were clean and tidy and very functional. Sharon and Pete are very friendly and always happy to have a chat and assist in anyway possible to make your stay a happy and relaxing one. If staying for long periods of time, just bring your shopping or shop on the Island. It is close to the beach, shops and the north gorge walkway which is highly recommended for early morning and afternoon walks. Both times we have stayed we have had great views of main beach and the ocean. Just laying back on the bed listening to the ocean makes for a relaxing experience when you just want to chill out. Also in whale migration season you don't even have to leave your room just make a cuppa and sit out on the balcony and watch them splash around from a distance right in front of you. The only issue was that on the ground floor we had no wifi or mobile reception and when on top floor it was intermittent. Would I stay again ABSOLUTELY
We go to Straddie each year for the (outstanding) Chamber Music Festival. Family of three, or occasionally more. This year we stayed in Apt 3. Two double bedrooms, both en suite, large living room, spic'n'span kitchen and a large balcony overlooking the surf club and the sea. Bright and comfortable, spacious, unfussy ... just the ticket. Will return.
We had Unit 6 in Samarinda, and we were there during the worst weather the managers had seen in 3 years - wind, rain (sideways) and generally appalling weather. However our unit was dry and cosy, and well equipped, the only thing lacking was - a small matter but probably worth paying attention to - keeping salt and pepper containers at least half full - it's annoying to have to buy salt, particularly.
We stayed in a 1 bedroomed unit for 3 nights and then a 3 bedroomed unit for another 3 nights. The first unit was well presented, neat and tidy and on the bottom floor. For those who need the Internet or mobile phone there was no coverage. The 2nd apartment was tired and could do with an upgrade. It was still clean and tidy and met our needs. As it was on the top floor there was intermittent mobile and internet coverage. Despite these issues I would still highly recommend
Location was great however the apartment was getting very tired and the main bathroom was a shower in the laundry with no power points for hair driers etc. The ensuite was ok however it required renovations several years ago. There was an ad hoc Reno done in parts but very dated. Have stayed in better accommodation for same money in the same area.
If you book these Apartments, say you do not want to stay in Apartment 11. We stayed for 2 nights and room was very poor.....dirty, rusty and in a poor state of repair. Would definitely return to Point Lookout, but absolutely not to these apartments.
We had a fantastic stay at Samarinda. We were there for 4 nights for my cousins wedding and was my first visit to Australia. The apartment very nicely decorated and had everything we needed, very comfortable and homely. Its a stones throw from the beach which goes on forever. There is a walkway round the cliff edge where we saw kangaroos hopping around and in the sea there was a leopard shark (which we were informed) and a turtle swimming around and this was all on the first morning. Sharon and Pete were more than helpful and said we should visit Amity Point where we saw wild Koalas high up in the trees and the icing on the cake was when we were in the sea and wild dolphins came swimming up to us, and this was all in one day!!!. We were completely blown away. Straddie is a fabulous place for a holiday and to get away from it all. There was nothing I didn't like about this place, the only thing I wish is that it was closer to home, however 10,000 miles or so is a long way to come. If you are looking for the perfect place to stay then this is it.
The suite, is excellent, ocean views, fully supplied, managers are obliging and polite and helpful. Unit was very clean and full of comfort. would genuinely recommend. Excellent ,clean pool with lovely barbecue facility. Handy to everything. Shall return
