I stayed in Mayang Sari resort for 1 night with family. Our experience with staff was terrible. They did not seem to know how to engage customer for special requests. Their behavior was pretty mechanical. There is a special rule about getting outside taxi in the resort which we came to know at the time of check-in only. The rule is that you need to give one day advance notice to the hotel if you want to call outside taxi. This does not work for guests who come to stay just for 1 night. Moreover, the rule is not listed at the time of booking. We made a request to allow with shorter notice but manager was pretty rude and did not even listen to us. He did not let us talk to security also. Hotel rooms and bathrooms are not five star quality, look quite old. Overall, I wont recommend this resort at all specially to the families with kids. For all kids activities you need to take shuttle bus to go to Niravana resort even for swimming pool!!
We recently stayed in one of the beach semi-detached bungalows and had a very pleasant and relaxed stay. Being somewhat removed from the main resort was a great choice as the shuttle bus was quite frequent and the walk to the main resort was about 10-15 mins thru a bit of jungle, beach, and passing by the mini-zoo where they have interesting snakes and rescued birds of prey. All in all a great stay.
First off may I just say that I love Bintan. It's my 3rd visit in a year and my first to Mayang Sari. Stayed here for 2 nights. Here goes my review. Good: View is absolutely amazing. Seriously you guys, ask for the rooms nearer to the watersports counter. Bfast is good too. Variety is amazing. Lots of choices for coffee lovers. Convenience. Since this is under the Nirwana Gardens, it is super convenient to get around with the shuttle. It is a self-sufficient place with bowling at anthr property, Kelong at another, yadayada. And it is all chargeable to your room! How convenient. There is even a mom n pops shop at the resort should you run out of snacks. They gave 4 cans of drink for free! I didnt realise it was complimentary till I read the note. Bed is good. Comfortable sleep! They provide in room massage and its at the Mayang Sari property too if u dun wan an in room massage. How convenient. The messause was weebit distracted but oh well, forgiven. I spent most of my time at the hammock infront of my room. So relaxing. The Ok: Service is alright. Ive had a much better service at another property in Bintan. It seems that they are giving the service because they have to and not because they want to. The room is alright too. Quite big and clean. The bathroom is clean. It has the basic needs but would be a better experience if they had a bathtub and they have better toiletries? It seems very basic. The bad: The walls are super thin. My neighbour said my TV was too loud. Actual fact is the tv's speaker were right at the wall of the headrest of the other rm's bed. The room is super huge so I didnt get to enjoy the TV that much since my neighbour hears it more than I do being in the room. The beach bar seems dead. They should look into reviving the bar area and turn it into a seaside restaurant. Seriously that place is a wasted land. Should make full use of it. For those who wish to use the pool, you have to take the shuttle to their other resort. Nt much of a complain for me since I wasnt interested in the pool in the first place. It can get realllly dark and quiet at night at the resort. Lights go off at 9pm. Although Kelong is just minutes away from Mayang Sari by foot, pls take the shuttle after dark. I didnt and I regretted it big time. It's so eerie. The daybed made available at the front area is a smart move as you can just chill anytime u want. However, I noted there were strange creepy crawlies on it. Lay down your towel before lying on them! Overall, I would come back just for the view. I dun feel as welcomed as I did at another resort but I wld come back for a quiet time.
Stayed here for 4 nights in Sept. Was not cheap at all to book a Beach Chalet Hut. $200 per night. It's nice, clean and about 20 meters from the room to the sand so on this level it's great to walk out of your room and be on the beach. Staff were very nice, spoke English well and friendly. There is absolutely nothing to do here so unless you are coming to read a few books on the beach don't bother. This is part of a complex/compound with 3 different resorts inside. All linked by a free shuttle bus. They even have you stitched up with having to use the taxi company they have inside the compound if you want to leave. It cost us $15 one way to go a local market to get some produce. The resort so called facilities are old, run down or closed. If they try to send you to a place called Plaza Lagoi don't waste your time, it's a shopping mall that's gone wrong and has an occupancy of about 20% of the shops and the rest are empty. It's a joke. And you need to stay there at least 1.5 hours till the bus takes you back to resort. Poorly organised. It's all a bit tired and outrageously overpriced. In fact the food prices were the same or even more expensive that Australian prices and the quality not as good. We were shocked to see that it was $9.50 each for the local beer in the hotel. We managed to find some at a local market outside the hotel and were able to buy it for $1.80. Same with the wine prices, simply ridiculous. Although you are in Indonesia this whole complex is Western prices and above so it's no way a cheap holiday. The biggest let down for me was when asking for a later checkout as our ferry did not come until 5.30pm we were advised it would be $100 extra. I know from looking on line they were not fully booked that night, had a number of rooms like ours available and we could in fact have kept our room until we needed to get the bus at 4.30pm but we have to leave the room and then sit around for 2.5 hours just waiting. As I run a hotel myself I am aware that it's no extra expense to me to let a guest have the room till they need to leave if I have ample stock available to sell for that night. Won't be going back here or recommending.
Mayang Sari is a resort area within Nirwana Resort. this area has no pools or bars, though the beach is just in front of your bungalow. there is a shuttle bus rounding inside Nirwana resort every 30 min, though from Mayang sari, the restaurants and activities are in walking distance. also they have the one and only dive center in the island to get PADI OWD to advance license. you can also enjoy numerous types of water sports like jetski, bananaboat, para sailing and so on... i made a good choice staying at Mayang Sari.
The service I received was really good, however, the resort is getting along with age. The place was clean, but as with all places near the jungle in Indonesia, there is an insect issue (Beetles, Cockroaches, things which look like wasps), and where you find insects you find lizards. The pillows had a bit of a smell and I was also bitten by an unknown insect on the finger in the middle of the night, thankfully it wasn't bed bugs. For the price paid, and combined with the total food bill, this is an expensive place to stay for a short island getaway from Singapore.
Did a day trip organised by a tour agency from Singapore. Included 2 water activities which could be kayaking or snorkelling. Snorkelling was a bad experience as the equipment was dirty and the water had nothing really. But I heard the snorkelling organised by the resort itself is fantastic. As for the resort, unforgettable experience! Even for a 1 day getaway!
It was not that bad... after all... we enjoy the stays! Not bad for short trip... but we wont back to mayangsari thou... will try the hotel accommodation first... hopefully my kids enjoy more with the hotel accommodation as we try to make Bintan out next short trip holidays... beside Thailand n malaysia
I spent a night with my friend at the resort. The sand is white but the beach is a bit murky. We stayed in a Garden View Room. To be honest the price difference between the Sea View and our room is not worth it in my opinion. This place is more for relaxing and it is definitely not a party spot. The room was clean and spacious for the both of us. The only qualm I had was our check-in which took longer than expected. Expect "Singaporean" prices throughout the several resorts. Overall it was nice stay and I would recommend it for relaxing.
This is a great and inexpensive option for getting away from Singapore for a relaxing long weekend. With the rest of Nirwana Gardens there is lots of options for entertaining the children and for dinner options. The hotel and wider resort could do with a facelift but even without this ticks all the major boxes.
