ECONTEL HOTEL Berlin Charlottenburg

We booked this hotel as it seemed very close to where the New Years celebrations would be held and close to airport and transport links. It was further out from Brandenburg gate than we originally thought but probably a fault of not enough research on our part. We flew in early on New Year’s Eve so knew we probably couldn’t check in straight away so were not surprised when we arrived we were told check in wasn’t until the afternoon and to come back at 3 (which I thought was an hour or so later of what you’d usually be offered at a check in.) The staff seemed cold and we had to ask if we could leave our bags, doing so and going out to explore. We turned back to the hotel at 2:30pm to be told our room wasn’t ready (again we were told 3pm, so understood but was slightly frustrated it seemed a little later than what most hotels would offer) we proceeded to tell the guy at reception we’d wait in reception until our room was ready, sitting on the seats in front of the check in desk and researching things to continue doing for the day prior to the big celebrations. Time passed slowly and when we still hadn’t been approached at 3:20 we asked what was happening with our room only to be told “it’s ready now,” and given the key. This really annoyed me as we’d only discussed earlier we’d wait right in front of the desk and he could quiet obviously see us sat there regularly looking up to see if he’d tell us soon our room was ready. No communication what so ever and the cold and unfriendly atmosphere from the staff continued our whole stay, we did not feel very welcomed as we walked in to the hotel every day. As for the rooms and hotel it’s self it’s basic and you get what you pay for. Clean enough and spacious enough just please change your paper thin, see through towels!

We chose this hotel as it was close to Charlottenburg Schloss where there is a big Christmas Market but still had good bus and U-bahn links into the more central area (tourist sites and other Christmas markets). Overall the hotel is good, basic room but fine for the 3 nights we were there. We arrived very late on the first night and thought the large window/door onto the balcony was broken as we couldn't shut it. We left it until the morning but it was cold and noisy. in the daylight we managed to shut it properly although housekeeping kept opening it each morning so when we returned in the evening after a long day out in the cold we had to wait for the room to warm up once we'd closed the window again! Breakfast was good - wide range of hot and continental offering and tea/coffe/juices etc. Not included in the room price though. We also ate at the restaurant in the evening which we asked to be put on our room bill. In the lift and outside the restaurant door are posters advertising 2 course for Euro 18.95 or 3 courses for Euro 23.95 which we thought was very reasonable. However, we only found out at checkout (which we did at 6:30am) that you have to ask the waitress to get the deal it's not automatic and the receptionist wouldn't make any change when I pointed out the posters promoting the reduced prices. As we had to leave to get the train to the airport we didn't argue any further but worth noting if you eat in the restaurant to ask about the deal in advance to avoid this problem. WIFI was a bit slow but roaming allows you to use 4G these days so not a problem if you're not patient enough to wait!

This was the first hotel we stayed at in our Europe trip and maybe it was our expectations but I was very disappointed. Firstly, we were early so we wanted to leave our bags at the hotel, which they said we could. Small thing, but the hotel staff were quite cold and unfriendly (maybe their English is not good?) and left us to figure out where the luggage room was, how to unlock it etc. Secondly, bed was BROKEN. First time I've ever encountered this, which is strange because the bed was nicely made and housekeeping knew it was broken yet did not bother to inform reception. Hotel staff were quite relax and not that ready to help us resolve the matter, but eventually it was resolved in the end. (By the way, there was no compensation until we asked; it's not that we want freebies but it's just poor business attitude towards customers on the part of the hotel) Thirdly, window was also BROKEN. Again, housekeeping most likely opened the window, and forgot to close it. Just find it strange that they didn't notice it was broken. The scary thing is the window is huge and looms over the bed. Upside is that breakfast is not bad. Personally it's an okay hotel if you really just want something basic, but considering the price is not super cheap I don't think it's value for money. Mind you, we stayed at Ibis hotels in Prague and Vienna, and another 3-star hotel in Budapest and these were all fine (the Ibis hotels were excellent!). So use your judgment to compare. Basically just manage your expectations if you choose this hotel.

I tried an agency to plan our trip and chose this hotel for our stay in Berlin, the staff were all great and polite, my partner speak german but I speak English that both language they can comprehend and assist you, its a budget hotel but the service was great ,breakfast was so good as lost of choices and coffee you have choices too .the room we stayed was decent but i think this will be a problem during summer thou I'm sure there are lots of rooms for all your budget needs. there is a bus near the are going to Tegel airport if you are travelling there from or to, then you can use that as well to go to Zoological gardens to take a bus going to city centre where you like to go, there is a near river on this hotel and park, also lots of convenient stores and services, also there is an underground station nearby . I will definitely book again on this hotel not using any agency for the next flight :-)

Everything was very good. Hotel may be is not new, but everything was clean, WIFI was good. Actually we just spend there overnight time. Most part of holidays we was out of hotel. They have pretty cheap underground parking, but please book it in advance. Breakfast was good, and selection wide enough. All in all value for money.

staffs were so kind and respectfulو Patient .Break fast was for king.Room was very clean .My family enjoined really .If I wan to go to Berlin it will be my hotel again.Location of hotel is a place you can visit some truism attraction like Charlottenbarge palace ,Olympic stadium . Access to metro.there were so large shop that you can buy what you need .

We had a family room on the first floor with bunk beds (knew that before booking). The room was very quiet and there was more space in the room than expected. The room was cleaned by the cleaning department daily. Check in and check out were fast. A small safety deposit box was available in the room. In the bathroom we didn't have a bathtub but a shower which was OK with us. Shower needs to be used to in order to avoid water getting out from the shower "basin". Windows in our room didn't open completely. I guess that is because the room was situated on the first floor and right out of the window is a terrace (most probably from the hotel's restaurant) which makes it easy to get out of the room if you want to. This way the hotel prevents anyone from exiting the room towards this terrace. Outside the hotel there is a bus stop and 50-80 metres (right from the hotel when exiting) there is a U-bahn station which makes it very easy to go anywhere in the city. There are places to eat around the hotel and a supermarket next door. We enjoyed our stay in the hotel. We would definitely use it again.

I stayed here with a group in July. Unfortunately it was very hot when we were in Berlin and there was no air conditioning in our room. Despite this our room stayed fairly cool and we were able to open the window wide at night and in the morning to help cool down our room. The bathroom is very small but functional and the room was very clean and well presented. There was good storage space for me and my travel buddy to keep everyday items and our suitcases. The room also had a safe although we didn't know how to operate it so didn't use it. The staff were friendly and able to help us with anything. The hotel also supplied a very handy Berlin city map, which was useful for getting around. Although the hotel was not in the city centre, it was very easily accessible by bus X9 from the airport and was very close to the metro U7 which links with many other lines to easily get you around the city. The hotel is also located walking distance to the palace in Charlottenburg and the beautiful surrounding gardens, which are free to use. This hotel was ideal for us as we did not spend much time in Berlin so it was quick to get to and from the airport. It was also ideal for relaxing in the palace gardens which are close by.

Unfortunately, we had a room that you could not open the windows very much, so it was hot. The bathroom had no window to the outside, but a window into the room, so no privacy. We ended up having bunk beds for 4 people and room was tiny. Not much room to walk around or sit with our luggage taking up the little floor space. Couldn't put shower on full power because drain was slow and it would have flooded bathroom. One positive is that it is close to bus line to airport.

Booked this hotel for it's very attractive price and was not disappointed. Stayed three nights and everything was just sufficient for us. The room was spacious, clean and had the necessary amenities. We really liked that it was close to the U7 and there was a grocery store right outside the door which helped us to save a lot of money not eating out breakfast and dinner. The shower was a bit of a paid as others mentioned but we dealt with it, again, for the price we were not expecting the Marriott. Staff, despite other reviews, were friendly and did not mind our English nor our multiple questions. I would highly recommend this option for budget travelers. We arrived from Schonefeld Airport and were easily able to get to the hotel by public transport. It was a quick trip to meeting point on the east side for Insiders Tours and just as close for the main train station in Berlin.
