Beverly cooked us the most amazing breakfast to start off our day. The french toast was fantastic and her GRITS were the BEST IN TOWN! A beautiful in with a lovely, peaceful front porch. Loved everything about this place
We recently stayed just one overnight at Rhett House. Upon arrival, we were greated with smiles and assisted to our room. The manager explained to us the tea hour and breakfast times. Our room on the second floor was quite large and comfortable, with a wonderful bed, 2 chairs facing a large tv. Temperature was controlled by our own A/C unit. The only downside to the room was an incredibly small bathroom, but this is a very old house and other than joking that it was like being in a cruise cabin bathroom, it didn't bother us much. We did notice that the Inn needed some painting touch-ups and just general small maintenance, but it did not deter from a pleasant stay. Breakfast was served by a very attentive server, and was quite good. We would stay here again should we return to the area!
Wanted to love this place. It has an excellent location in the picturesque town of Beaufort. The Inn has so much charm, so much history, so much potential that maybe was lived up to in the past but here is what I personally found: Full disclosure, my room was located in "the Cottage" which is not part of the main house. The main house only has 10 rooms, I believe , but apparently they are in better repair than most of the rooms in the cottage. Perhaps the excellent reviews are from people who stay in the main house. From the exterior of the cottage one can't help but notice how badly the paint is peeling and in need of attention. The room we stayed in had a screen door with a broken piece just hanging off. This broken piece seems to serve as a handle to close the door. The door had an old style lock that needed to be turned from the inside and then pulled closed but it kept sticking such that it couldn't easily be turned. Locking the door took a long time. On checking in we found that there were two bulbs not working in the room. One was over the coffee cabinet and the other in the bathroom. In the fridge we found coffee creamer, but it must have been expired because it curdled the coffee we made the next morning. We were missing a mat for the floor and had to use towels to keep the floor dry when we stepped out of the very tiny shower. When we brought these issues to the attention of the desk clerk we were told that they know about the lock on that door, that it does that from time to time. The coffee creamer was replaced by creamer with the same date of expiration so we didn't use it. The bulbs were replaced however and a mat was placed in the room for the floor. I don't understand why they know about the lock and don't replace it. I don't know why they didn't check the date on the replacement creamers if I pointed out that the ones in the room were past the expiration date. Breakfast was a little frenetic. Service was haphazard. Was tough to get the coffee refilled and so had to keep self- serving from the coffee setup that was in the living room. The fresh fruit served buffet style was wonderful but it ran out quickly and didn't seem to get replenished. There were not enough plates available for guests to help themselves to the fruit. The served breakfast was good but not remarkable nor memorable. So, for me, conceptually this is a wonderful Inn.The grounds are lovely. The staff seems to want to make guests comfortable, but won't quite go the extra yard to do so. I'm glad I had the opportunity to stay here and mostly enjoyed my visit but I just can't give the experience the rating of anything better than just average. Sorry.
I enjoyed every minute of my stay at the Rhett House Inn! The staff, especially Aimee and Gloria, are terrific! I highly recommend this beautiful B&B if you're looking for a quiet getaway in the heart of historic Beaufort!
This Inn is listed in our favorite rating service guide and I cannot figure out why. We were greeted upon our arrival by an unsmiling young woman who checked us in, showed us where our room was and then told us that she had a lot of check-ins that night and would be very busy. No offer of help with our luggage. We got the message that she didn't want to be bothered. When we went to the sitting room, my husband noticed a pitcher of tea - room temperature. You have to ask for ice. The honor bar has no wine available. Again, you have to ask for wine then fill ouy your own charge slip. When we inquired about restaurants for dinner, we were told that there was a book of menus under the coffee table we could look at. The room itself was tired. There was a split in the seam of the wallpaper that extended for about a foot and was opening up. There was grime on the glass pane dividers on the doors out to the porch. The bathroom sliding door stuck so badly that we resorted to leaving it open about 6 inches so we could grab it with 2 hands to tug it open. No light in the shower and very dim bulbs in the lamps. One of the upholstered chairs was severely "sprung" so that when you sat in it, you felt as if you were going to hit the floor because you sank so far down. Breakfast was OK, but not what I would consider "award winning Southern." One morning, it was absolutely stifling in the room - heat & humidity were very high - but not even the ceiling fan had been turned on, never mind air conditioning. I don't remember ever feeling less welcome at a highly-rated Bed & Breakfast, and wouldn't return on a bet.
For $370 a night, we did not expect the list of things below to occur & it's been 10 days since contacting the Manager regarding these items with no response. -Dirty pillowcase upon arrival (which the lady did come & change after I called) -Cobwebs all over the lights in the bathroom -Shower leaks onto the floor through the right side -Holes in the comforter on the bed -Air conditioning only got down to 76 degrees our entire stay (we were told it was due to the location of the room & that it couldn’t be fixed) -Bed literally squeaked every time you moved an inch -When I asked for the beach chairs to use for the day (which is explicitly stated as an amenity on the website & in room pamphlet), I was told they were really old and not in good shape, and that we wouldn’t want them
What an awesome bed and breakfast. We enjoyed everything from the friendly staff, wine and cheese at 5:00 - desserts in pm and then Ms. Beverly's home cooked breakfast. We got to stay in Room 10 and it was just the perfect.
We pulled into Beufort without a reservation and after a quick search of the local B&B's (there are a few nice ones) settled on the Rhett House. Everyone there was great. If you go without a reservation you risk not having the best room selection, but you also get "the walk up rate" for all the rooms which can be a bit cheaper than what is on the website. We did this and ended up with the Honeymoon Suite which was a very nice with a private screen porch. One of the great things about this place is the Breakfast cooked by Chef Beverly and staff. Fantastic! Eggs, bacon, sausages, pancakes, French toast, etc. etc.-- all you'd ever want and it is great. Also desserts cooked before you go to bed. Chef Beverly got a personal letter of congratulations from then governor Nikki Haley for all the great things she's done for the cuisine of the low country. We had a great time and will be back.
We were in the area to attend our daughter's graduation from Marine Corps boot camp. Beaufort was a perfect location and Rhett House Inn was an excellent choice. Amy was very welcoming. The inn was not full on the night we arrived so Amy let us view a few different rooms to make sure we were happy with our chosen room. We were off to Parris Island early each morning so we did not get to enjoy Beverley's breakfast, but we did enjoy her charming personality one morning. Desserts served evening were a delightful way to end our days. The location is excellent in a town that is easy to walk around. I would happily book another stay in a heartbeat. I would have liked to spend more time on the grounds.
If you book and need to cancel when a natural disaster occurs (Hurricane Irma) expect to be charged for a nights stay if you don't cancel fours days prior to your stay. We hope they enjoy the $200 plus they received without providing the services. It will be the last dime we spend anywhere near this or hotel or Beaufort in general. We understand policies. We also understand human decency and exceptions. We will be certain to tell all our friends not to do business with this Inn. We have a large network of friends and professionals we will share this experience with. Congratulations on losing thousands of dollars in future business.
