Hotel Onix Fira3.0 out of 5.0

The hotel is located very close to everything. If you are up to a 22 minute walk you can even reach La Rambla and the core of the beautiful city. We had some air conditioner problems at first, but the hotel let us change the room and front-desk was very friendly and helpful. Lovely rooftop pool!! :)
This hotel is very central - just next to the Arenas shopping centre, a big supermarket and plenty or cafes and restaurants. So a great location! The hotel itself is a 'no frills hotel' . It is clean and has all you need but is a little tired. If you plan to be out most of the time and need a simple place to sleep - this is perfect. The pool is tiny and the roof terrace needs refreshing - but its a lovely place to sit and chill.
This hotel is awful and staggeringly overpriced. Do not stay here. We were misled by the creative photography, particularly the pictures of the pool and communal areas, into booking a prepaid room for our one night in Barcelona. Big mistake. This is at best a dingy youth hostel. As you'll see in my pictures, the whole place is run down and actually pretty dirty. Most horrifyingly, one of the pillowcases is filthy (the marks in the pictures are on both sides -- shudder). We requested a double room but have been given a twin, but that's the least of our problems with it. Stained walls, a groaning, wheezing air con unit, curtains that ought to be white but are nearly yellow, a radio system that appears to have been brand new c. 1973. Honestly, this place looks like a shabby motel in a bad movie. We assume there is a pool somewhere but no one has told us how to find it, and frankly we're no longer certain that we want to. It's too late for us: save yourselves and book elsewhere.
The hotel was in a superb location, close to everything, had the metro right there and buses on our doorstep!! The hotel room itself was big enough for the both of us, had a balcony and a lovely well equipped bathroom! I have given it 5 stars but the only downside was 2/3 nights we had a loud room next door to us, the first night was a hen party and it was the furniture moving that made it so loud and disruptive and on the last night we had these boys come back at 3am and start shouting and making so much noise we had to contact reception. I am quite tolerable and can deal with noise but it was too much especially as we were given a quiet room. That being said it was probably bad luck and I would stay here again next time I'm in town because it was great service, the reception were always there to help, answer any questions we had and generally were lovely! The pool table in the foyer was a good choice too, had a few games of pool there to end a night!
AMAZING cleaning service. The cleaning staff need to be honoured as we were overwhelmed by the spotless room we would return to (and we're not the cleanest bunch of 19 year olds). They would even fold up our clothes and pile them in the cupboards!.. Great and welcoming hotel staff who all speak very good English! Love from England
Traveled with her teenage daughter. The hotel was chosen because of the location The hotel is clean. A spacious room. Unfortunately uncontrolled air conditioning. Good breakfast. Responsive staff. Very convenient location. City center.
Stayed here for 3 nights, very basic room but clean, comfortable and was reasonably priced. Staff were friendly and accommodating. It is in a good location for the 'hop on hop off ' bus route. Would stay here again and have no problem recomending this hotel if you are looking for a city break.
Our room at Ónix Fira was about as austere is it gets in a hotel, with just the basic necessities. The beds were clean and comfortable and the bathroom was clean and fairly large. The highlight of the Ónix Fira is its location, a short walk from the Plaza Espanya and the Arena shopping mall. It's central location in Barcelona allowed us to meet friends, explore, eat and shop all without a car. The television had a good variety of channels, including several English-speaking news stations. The hotel is a block away from several transit bus routes, and is a manageable walk from Barcelona Sants train station. For a modern shopping experience with a variety of restaurants, check out the Arena, a converted bullfighting venue, a block away.
Stayed here from 10th June for 5 nights with my husband. Arrived at Sants Barcelona railway station - took 10-15 minutes walking with cabin size suitcases during day time heat. Augustine on reception was very amusing and made my husband and me very welcome. We arrived at 8.15 p.m. and he advised us that we had arrived in time for the last night of "Font Magica" which he said was from 9.00. He gave us a map with the hotel and all the sight seeing districts plus where to find the fountain which was within a 10 minute walk of the hotel. The fountain show lasted from 9.30 to 10.30 the night we arrived. All staff were very helpful during the week with advice and maps. They could have sold us tickets for attractions if needed but in the end we did not take that up. Room was a good size with a comfortable bed, had a good nights sleep most nights - similar to sleep pattern at home. Air conditioning was easy to control, I could hear the fan but got to sleep quickly so not too disturbing. Bathroom with shower was good with toiletries and a hairdryer. Breakfast was good, choices of juices and water, big bowls of fresh fruit (including huge tomatoes), cereals, different meats and cheeses, hot food which included scrambled egg, Spanish omelette or frittata and small sausages, bread and toaster. A small fridge contained yoghurts. Whole, semi-skimmed and Soya Milk were on offer. Breakfast was 7.00 to 11.00 - good when needing to leave early on morning of departure. There was a safe in the wardrobe. PC's could be used on the first ('A' in lift) floor. Free Wi-Fi available. View from room was satisfactory, we could see the park to the right although we had offices directly across the road. We were on the 4th floor (Room 405) which helped. Very close to metro at Placa d'Espanya. Metro tickets could be bought for 9.95 Euros for a 10 journey trip each or for 5 journeys when using the same ticket through the barriers. No ticket is needed when leaving the stations. Metro was easy to follow and end destinations were shown and route was clearly marked to lead you to the correct platform. Lots of good restaurants around and shopping centre.
Great place if all you want to do is have a decent, reasonably priced hotel room and spend all day sightseeing around Barcelona. Convenient location for the Metro and airport transfer. Highly recommended.
