This is my second stay in two years and as it is said true excellence is continuous An amazing property of over 400 acres of olive trees and vineyards with a 12 century castle as the hotel and an absolutely amazing, friendly, knowledgable professional staff I stayed again in the Marchese Suit which is the most luxurious and elegant and beautiful suite I have ever stayed in. With three huge double windows that open up to the beuatiful estate positioned perfectly to watch the sunrise over the hills of Tuscany with the relaxed sound of the morning dove Le Torre is a phenomenal Michelin restaurant with a diverse Tuscan menu also filled with a seafood menu prepared Tuscan style The chef is consistently amazing and visits each table st the end of the evening to ensure your delight and he is Beverly informed otherwise I could not recommend this world class resort more highly with an outstanding staff Dr Christopher Olenek
Love this resortl! My husband and I spent 3 nights here in July 2019. Great location only 35 minutes from the heart of Florence. Professional, friendly staff and very comfortable and clean rooms!! Perfect location to work from and discover Chianti region. Beautiful views throughout property.. looks like a postcard! Highly recommend!!
We are long time Como "fans" and have visited most of the Como properties so we were excited when we learned that they have opened their first property in Italy. In fact, Como has simply taken over a very traditional "very old fashioned Italian" hotel. And this is were the problem starts: they did some window-dressing but the hotel did not get the look and feel or the spirit of the Asian boutique chain. This shows clearly with the staff - obviously the same people that worked there before just doing what they have always done. (Very) old fashioned Italian hospitality. Meaning? Arrogant, not caring much about their guests. We never felt welcome or appreciated. Overpriced food, boring breakfast buffets, turn-down service that never worked, not even bottled water in the rooms. A pool boy that offered water only on request, a Michelin star restaurant that did not care to service outside since "the whatever had been unstable today" (true, HAD BEEN now it was lovely ...) On top of that a very overcrowded pool with lots of noisy children and a spa that charges about 50% then its sister property but has not even be refurbished still looking like an Italian Terme from the 70 ties. To make a long story short. This place is not at all worth the 750 plus Euro they charge per night. Period. It does not deserve the "Leading Hotels of of The World" logo they carry. It is an okay 4 star property and American clients might be thrilled about its ancient and "so Italian feel". For the discerning traveller who appreciates great places and even better service: stay away.
After touring Italian cities for 10 days my family and I spent two days here. Setting was beautiful and staff we’re friendly and eager to accommodate. Rooms are comfortable and newly updated in Tuscan cha.
My husband and I decided to kickstart our anniversary and Italian vacation in Florence. We decided to stay just outside of the city to also experience the countryside. As soon as we drove up towards the entrance, following the towering cypress trees that create the pathway of the Castello del Nero, all we could say was wow! It is an incredible property with a spectacular manicured gardens with romantic rose vines and lush greenery. The pool area in the back has expansive views of the rolling hills of your Tuscan countryside dreams. We were greeted and helped into our room, which although simple and without view, was charming and still spacious but felt very cozy. There are 2 restaurants in the property, one fine dining Michelin restaurant (La Torre) and one they described as a casual one (La Taverna). Since it was later in the afternoon when we checked in, we decided to relax by the pool area, and begin our tours the next day. We also made reservations for the casual restaurant that night. The dish that stuck out for me was my pasta with ragu sauce, which was out of this world. It looked plain and simple, but full of flavor-my favorite tomato based pastas that I’ve tried in Italy during out entire trip! Now for the criticisms: There is no valet service. They come out to assist with baggage but not to park your car. At the pool area, they had a gentleman who provided towels. We tried to order drinks, but there is no bar service, although the bar is across the pool. You have to walk, order drinks and bring it back to your sunbed. Not to sound needy but this is the first 5-star-rated luxury hotel where we were not provided drink service. It was a little odd. We saw other couples with buckets of champagne and we didn’t ask, but we did wonder if they were offered services that we weren’t. When you are trying to just relax, the last thing you would want to do is get up and walk back and forth to get your drinks, ice, bar snacks, etc. They’re casual restaurant still felt very fancy, which was fine. We were dressed appropriately-I felt. Upon walking in, we were looked at but not approached for about 5 minutes of standing there. Not even a greeting. We finally sat down on the chairs for another 5 minutes before someone acknowledged us and asked to wait a little for our table to be prepared. We were sat in the back small room, with 3 other tables and away from the main dining area. Again we understood as they seemed busy and understaffed. There were maybe 3 people running around. My annoyance was not even any of those things, but the service during our dinner. It was that since we were in the small room without view from the staff, they did not check on us enough to see if we needed anything. The nice gentleman peeked in once in awhile but didn’t really come to the table to as us how we were. The diners next to us lacked a plate and after waiting for someone to help him, just reached over to another empty table for what he needed. We weren’t finished without our starters, when our main dishes came. After seeing that we were still eating our starters, he did apologize but proceeded to move the plates that we were still working on to squeeze the main dishes in. Mind you, the table is small and the plates they served on were very big so everything was cramped together. This made us feel like we had to rush eating so our main dishes don’t get cold. They gave us a dessert for our anniversary which was a nice gesture. But dinner service overall is lacking. Another thing was the temperature of the room, which was warm each night. When we asked if it can be adjusted, they said there was a problem with the air conditioning system. Back to the positives: We missed breakfast daily, because our tours began early, but they were very nice to pack us breakfast to go each morning upon request. We were also given welcome drinks as well as a bottle of sparkling wine in our room to celebrate our anniversary. Upon leaving, we were gifted their olive oil, which was great because we had the chance to taste it during our dinner there. Carla at the front desk was very nice in answering all our questions during our stay and was the only one that stood out apart from the gentleman who helped us with our bags and greeted us warmly daily. Overall, our stay was fairly comfortable. Service in general was lacking, again, especially for a 5-star luxury hotel. We usually left early and came back late at night due to tours, and were not always greeted, nor asked how our day went. When greeted, it felt cold and non-genuine compared to other patrons. I will not deny that the property was stunning, but the service left something to be desired. Hospitality was lacking. If my eyes were closed the entire time, I would have thought we were staying at a 3-star rated hotel.
4 years ago we stayed here as one of are destinations as we toured Italy. We liked it so much that we came back. Last time the atmosphere was so welcoming and relaxing. The service was top notch. There was an out door restaurant that we had dinner at nightly and they went out of their way to make my daughter something off the menu for our last night. We absolutely loved this place. This time was different. We were greeted warmly and given the same rooms as last time ( we are a family of 5 so need 2 rooms). Such a nice touch. Champaign was iced and ready in our rooms. The weather was not the best so no outdoor dining was available. We ate at the casual indoor restaurant by the bar. Since we were a large party we were always in the back room ( nice a quiet and private) - maybe too private as it seemed we were forgotten once our food arrived both nights. We had to track down our waiter to order dessert, get an after dinner drink or sign the check. Other than that the place is great. You cannot beat the views and there are trails to hike. It is a lovely hotel but I feel like something is missing and it is not as wonderful as before.
The staff here goes way out of their way to make you feel like home. Great rooms, recently redecorated and new furniture and bathrooms, etc , with great breakfast buffet and Michelin restaurant---cozy bar, great pool and hot tub/gym , beautiful grounds and absolutely fabulous views of Tuscany --- HIGHLY recommended !
My stay here was absolutely incredible. The hotel was exquisite and the staff could not have been more attentive and nice. Evey one, from Beatrice at check in, was always friendly and wanted to assist in any way. Additionally, the spa and pool grounds were large and absolutely incredible to spend time in. This is a 5 star hotel in every sense of the word.
This was our first trip to the Tuscany area and we could not have been more pleased with the hotel, spa, restaurant, and staff at Castello Del Nero. What a beautiful setting in the rolling hills of Chianti! The room we stayed in (115) was an absolutely beautiful suite with a breathtaking view of the grounds, wine vineyards and olive trees. The entire staff from the reception area to the cleaning and restaurant staff treated us like royalty. A wonderful breakfast was included for a great start to the morning. Absolutely worth the investment as this is a 5 star experience. We can't wait to return!!
We were so unlucky to stay here during rainy, windy, frosty days, not typical at all in Tuscany in May. Therefore we missed the opportunity to swim in a beautiful 25m open pool or sunbathe under Tuscany sun. We were consoled with room upgrade, hearty hospitality, impeccable service at breakfast, amazing dinner experience in La Torre in-house restaurant and unforgettable landscapes. Following the hotel’s concierge tips we took a vineyard tasting tour to Tenuta Antinori and free shuttles to Siena and Florence to explore the cities history. In a word, bad weather was quickly forgotten.
