A couple of minutes walk from the guesthouse to the station, ideal if you’re getting the 5:55am train to Aranyaprathet (on the way to Cambodia). The WiFi worked well, there was a sink in the room, the AC worked well and the reception is open 24 hours- which is ideal if you’re checking out at 5am (which is what we recommend if you want a good seat on the train). However, the room and the bathroom seemed a bit prison like. The bathroom was rather dirty and the bins (full of dirty toilet paper) looked rarely emptied. The smell of urine permeated the room when I turned the shower on. Do not overfill the bin in the room or they will charge you (which is what happened to us- 100 baht). It was only some water bottles and cardboard packaging (removed from toiletries to pack in our bags better). They are renovating the place so expect some drilling and other noise in the morning. Good if you’re on a budget and aren’t staying long.
I've had the pleasure of staying at the Train Guesthouse a number of times over the years, although I think there's been a recent change in management. Location wise, it's hard to beat. Within a stone's throw from Hualumphong station, you have access to Thailand's vast network of trains at your fingertip, such as the overnight to Laos. It's also less than 5 minutes walk from the MRT, meaning you don't need to rely on dodgy taxi drivers who'll try to rip you off with outrageous fares. A couple of stations away and you can be connected on to the BTS. The direct line from here to JJ Market means it's also incredibly easy to get there on weekends. Being right on the edge of Chinatown, you also have access to the hipster enclave of Soi Nana, where a number of cool bars such as Teens of Thailand is located. The shared toilets might be hard for some, but at this price it definitely beats anything that Khaosan has to offer.
Not new Guesthouse. Very convenient location- near Hua Lamphong train station. Walking distance to 7/11 store, local restaurants, small market, MRT station. I stayed 1 night in the standard room ( #301). Very noisy from outside. Comfortable mattress and pillow, good WiFi signal and good air condition in the room, Fast check-in and check-out. Free coffee, hot water near reception. Unexpectedly clean shared toilet. I think I stay here again next time.
Good place in front of hua lampong´s train station, it looks a little bit old, but they the place very clean. You have coffee, tea, and a water fountain, and everybody will really look after you as long as you are respectful and quiet! Perfect if you want to stay couple of night in Bangkok before or after taking a train.
I booked this place because if its location to the train station for just an overnight stay. Great location, clean, easy check in and check out, plus they help our baggage for free while we went out and explored for the day. The rooms are small but Nice layout and they have a restaurant next door too!
Bangkok is cheap as a whole. You can get a very nice hotel for the same as what you'd normally for a cheap place in any other capital city. Worth paying extra for air-con. We tried to skimp as it was October, but it's still extremely humid at this time. Decent location and safe, close to chinatown, as well as the older parts of Bangkok. Most things are within walking distance; food, drink massage. If you need to go further out, a tuk-tuk is always waiting for you - guaranteed. Remember to haggle with taxis - they're always looking to make a few extra coins out of your. Hua Lamphong Station is right next door, making it easy to travel out of Bangkok by train. We went to Ayutthaya for 35baht. Totally recommended for a day trip. Travel by 3rd class. Then on to Chiang Mai via the same station on an overnight train.
Pros Best low price I can find. Strategic location, convenient to train, mrt, bus. Walking distance to chinatown, where you can find lots of Chinese food. Clean toilet Good wifi Friendly staffs Allows early check in despite of odd hours without extra charge. Water provided. (Would be better if the water is not ONLY cold water) Free coffee and tea and biscuits prepared. Cons Old air conditioner. Super noisy disturbed our sleep. Not cold. Could be too old and freeze up and not functioning properly. The bed is a little too hard. It is the type of bed used in massage centres. But good for people ho prefer hard bed. I am actually ine with the bed. But the pillow was too hard too. My head got numb after a while sleeping on it
We stayed two nights before getting a sleeper train down the coast. The rooms are small but clean and comfortable and the staff were friendly and welcoming. The shared bathrooms were also clean and tidy and weren't even an inconvenience :). The guesthouse has a locking keycard system on the door so you felt really safe and a little kitchen area where you could help yourself to tea and coffee. Amazing little guest house for a great price in a great location. Literally a two minute walk away from both metro and train station. Really easy to get around and see the whole of Bangkok from this location. Would return :)
The room was noisy and the common bathroom dirty. Otherwise the location is the very good point of this guesthouse : 5min walk from the train station. Sheets are clean, wifi and aircon were working well, and the staff is nice. Cheap price, definitly worth it
I contacted The Train Guesthouse the night before my arrival in Bangkok. They got back to me, telling me they had a Eco-room available and also gave me perfect directions from the airport (using public transit). It was extremely easy to reach from the airport, as it is right next to the train station. Although this guest house is nothing special, it is exactly as advertised. No misleading photos, no inaccurate information, no surcharge. The price was exactly as advertised, the wifi fast, the room clean and with a fan. It is the perfect place to crash if you have an early morning train the next day or need to get your barrings in Bangkok. An extra bonus: they have tea and coffee! And a few snacks. This was super helpful to get ready for our early morning train ride! Will definetly be staying here on my way out of Bangkok.
