Check in was excellent, we had a room on level 5, with a lovely view over race course. Our room had two separate beds and there was still plenty of room available. We had dinner which we both enjoyed, also breakfast was very good. We enjoyed a very pleasant drink in the bar before our dinner the bar staff were very helpful. All in all a very good stay, we look forward to staying again.
We stay here regularly and can never fault the friendly welcome, smiling faces (from the reception to the house keepers) and comfortable beds! There are places where they could do with a splash of paint (bathroom doors etc) but this doesn't detract from the cleanliness. My one moan would be that despite always booking for three people there's only ever 2 towels in the room! Reception is always quick to oblige with another, though! Would I recommend Novotel Ellerslie? Unreservedly, yes.
We booked into the Novotel but quickly realised that the Ibis and Novotel share the same building, bar and restaurant. With little difference in the standard of the rooms, may I suggest you book the Ibis as you will access the bar and restaurant of the more expensive Novotel. Also keep your keycard separated from your phone otherwise you will have several trips to the reception to reprogram your card.
Upon arrival I was advised that the hotel was overbooked so I had been moved to Ibis. Well, as most know, Ibis is the budget Accor brand and well beneath Novotel. Although staff were apologetic there was no mention of reimbursement or refund for the difference. I was unhappy but it was late and thought I had no choice. When I entered my replacement Ibis room I was disgusted. The room was old and basic- what I would expect from Ibis which is why I picked Novotel. It was then that I decided I would ask for a refund of the price difference. The staff said they would see if that was possible (seriously?!), I had then had enough so said I would ring around and go elsewhere and miraculously a room became available at Novotel! That was the most disappointing part of the whole night. They straight out lied to my face when I asked if it was currently at full capacity ether said yes. Overbooking, not offering compensation up front, lies. I travel a lot and will not be considering Accor in the future. They made me feel undervalued. Photos are of the Ibis they moved me to and the Novotel I ended up in.
My husband and I made a last minute decision to go to Auckland for the weekend. Being Accor Plus members we chose this hotel. Upon arrival we were greeted nicely (late at night) and pleasantly surprised to find our room had been upgraded to a Junior Suite. The rooms were extremely quiet, clean and welcoming. Linen was of the usual high standard. We had dinner in the restaurant, enjoying the seafood buffet on our second night. The range of food was very good with lots of 'seafood' to choose from. There was also plenty of other choices if you don't like seafood. The desserts were lovely and in fact we couldn't do justice to the range of food offered in just one night, therefore we are looking forward to returning to try again. :-). Car parking was available at a minimal charge and our car was delivered back to us quickly upon departure. The staff were fabulous and over-delivered in each and every area of the our experience at this hotel. We certainly would recommend this hotel and will be returning in the near future. Thanks to the staff for making our weekend so relaxing, just what we needed!
We stayed with my wife for two nights for business. The hotel is convenient due to its location near the train station. The bed and pillows were good and quite clean overall. Breakfast was charged as extra and was expensive. Overall the whole place was on the run down side and overall not a good value for its money.
We arrived quite late to discover I had book a twin share instead of a king room, I didn't mind but The lovely receptionist said she would change us to a king at no extra cost. The next morning we went down for breakfast to find that we were entitled to both the cooked and continental breakfast, which was amazing. Checkout was at 11am which I really liked, when we checked we were given a complimentary free car park pass, meaning that our parking that should cost $15 was free. One more thing, I had the best sleep ever, the bed was so comfortable. I would definitely stay here again. The staff are so helpful and very professional.
Ive stayed at a lot of Novotel's over the years travelling on business throughout NZ and in six different countries and this is simply the best. Just in terms of the friendly welcome you receive and the service generally (front desk, restaurant, bar, everywhere). It's not the most modern in the 'fleet of Novotel Hotels' but it doesn't matter. It's just a comfortable, centrally located hotel with great service and good amenities. As an Accor Plus member they really make you feel valued. A note of special praise too to the person that serves coffees with a drawing on the lid 'wishing you a great day'.
Stayed here for a week and although was away during the day the hotel was very confortable and offered all the facilities that I required when I was there. Offers one of the best breakfast I have had when travelling. TV in room was not that clear and cleaners left rubber gloves after servicing the room but overall I was happy. Location is ok if you have your own transport but it is only a few minutes from train station. Really freindly staff who greeted you when ever you entered the hotel. I joined the hotel club programme and received free internet for my entire stay which was great.
This was my first stay at this property - and unlikely to be my last, it was that good. The staff were all very helpful, the food was to a high standard and the room very comfortable. If you need a very well located, reasonably priced hotel - book it and see for yourself.
