Copthorne Hotel Auckland City

Stayed in this hotel during the World Masters Games. The room was good, the staff were excellent and the bar and restaurant were ok. The only major drawback is that they charge for wifi, and even then there are download limits to it. Very annoying, but it is similar to a lot of hotels in NZ.

We stayed four nights with my husband in this hotel. The room was a bit dated, the bathroom was quite small but it was clean and homely, and the bed was super comfy- all you need when you are out and about all day. I would recommend to have breakfast somewhere in the city instead of the hotel, only because there are so many nice cafes in town, and the hotel's one was just your average buffet breakfast. The staff was attentive and friendly, especially Sophie and Clement at the Front Desk.

only stayed overnight . We came off the train late , even though the hotel was not far its advisable to take a taxi.because the area is not safe. The morning we found the same , we took a taxi to the wharf.

Although rather tired and dated decor, staff extremely helpful and well situated for access to the harbour and city centre. Room was small with only one arm chair and little space for cases, but adequate as Auckland hotels can be ecpensive

In all other areas in New Zealand free wifi and parking are complimentary not the case with this establishment. The room had a decently sized bed but that was all to look forward to, the bathroom was very small and the drain did not fit into where a part had been cut in the tiles and the shower was not sealed so every time you got out of the shower into a puddle of water not the greatest thing to deal with. Parking was paid by the day only free wifi in the reception for 45 mins then you had to pay for the rest.

Lovely location and hotel but won't stay here again. Upon arrival we were told you had to pay NZD10 per night for parking which is a bit of a shock for me as every hotel I have ever stayed at had complimentary parking (including the two other hotels we stayed at in Rotorua and Lake Taupo) Furthermore wifi is also not free - again another change from every other hotel I have been in. It is only free on the ground floor for half an hour per device per day. The bed was comfy but overall the room was exceptionally tiny - especially the bathroom. The food in the restaurant downstairs was probably the highlight of the accomodation.

The staff are all friendly and helpful. Our room was shocking, it did not have a table or bench to write on and only one arm chair. The bathroom had the shower over the bath with NO hand rails to help get in and out of. This is NO GOOD for people with bad legs and the older generation. Spoke to reception and room changed from room 104 to 101. Now, room 101 ended up with a table and one (yes 1) chair. You would think that when two people are in a room there would be two chairs.

If you get a good deal then there is nothing wrong with this hotel. Sure it's basic and dated, but it's clean and tidy. There isn't much noise and the beds were comfortable. If your travelling through auckalnd without a car then be aware that whilst it is close to the city centre it's still a bit of a distance and you certainly wouldn't walk it at night. If the purpose of your stay is to go to something at Auckland university then this would be an good close location. The views are pretty good especially if you have a ocean view room. Don't expect added extras as there aren't any, but you get what you pay for and I got a good deal so I was more than happy with the accommodation.

We stayed for one night at the Copthorne in Auckland City in mid December 2016 and it was not too bad. Well placed in the city to walk everywhere. Room was OK and we had a sea view although far away. Staff were ok however we've just received a charge for a night's stay in March 2017! When our credit card provider tried to check why the charge was made Copthorne has not responded.

Make sure this is the first hotel you stay at when arriving in New Zealand. This will ensure that most other hotels will shine in comparison. In fairness, most of the staff were friendly and helpful but they had to do battle, on a daily basis, with a tired infrastructure and disinterested management. First impressions provided an accurate picture of the facilities. The brown carpet was worn, discoloured and well beyond its use by date. Rather disturbingly, the button panel in the lift was loose, begging the question, how well are the rest of the mechanicals being maintained? We just knew that, when we arrived in our room, the sink enamel would be chipped. Suffering jet lag we foolishly decided to eat in the restaurant that evening. Being shown to our table we noticed that none of the other ‘diners’ were actually eating anything. It soon became apparent that nothing had left the kitchen in over an hour, if you don’t include very low calorie excuses. My wife found the duty manager in reception, apparently oblivious to the culinary chaos being played out just 10 meters from where she stood. More excuses were readily provided. You have been warned.
