Fantastic host with great local knowledge, great location with easy bus access to city centre and suburbs, a good but limited breakfast including cooked food to order, room sizable with great view. However the property is dated and needs a facelift. This is especially true with our bathroom. Both the toilet and the shower system are long overdue for an update. The decor and fittings were also looking worse for wear. We also found issue with the general cleanliness of the place. Whilst the carpets, bedding and tables were clean; the same couldn't be said about everything else. The skirting boards, TV, TV stand, pictures etc were covered in dust and grime and several noticeable hairs were found in the bathroom. The breakfast room also suffered with some of the glasses and bowls not looking particularly clean. While the chalet has two owners, one of the hosts has a job as well and therefore it seems the other host is left responsible for being receptionist, manager, chef and cleaner and while the customer service and culinary skills are excellent it is clear that extra help is needed especially with the amount of rooms and cleaning that is required; in order to maintain the high quality standards which the chalet promotes. Overall our stay was good largely due to the high standard of customer service provided. Host Kelly's knowledge of the weather and local area is enviable and we were made to feel right at home.

The hosts are knowledgeable and helpful re local amenities, ideal location and views of Rangitoto but irrelevant, when as a guest, everything else about the accomodation is substandard. Firstly the owner tried to charge me for WiFi access contrary to my booking (I live in London, travel extensively and this is the first place I've stayed at that charges for WiFi). I don't mind 'cheap and cheerful' even peeling paint, however surfaces caked with dust and dead insects, grime and hair are unacceptable. Try telling this or complaining to the owners/cleaners and you will be met with aggression and denial. I had to check out after 2 nights after sleeping in Rooms 2 & 3. Each desperately needs sanitising and overhaul. Room 2 was given to me with a dirty hand towel, sheets that didn't smell fresh, carpet that hadn't been vacuumed and a dirty toilet. The bottom of the shower enclosure was filthy and the door was broken plus the shower output & temperature was inconsistent. I was then upgraded to Room 3 and although the room appears to be neater there is mould growing outside the shower enclosure, dust on the 1970s venetian blinds and inside the bathroom vanity, plus water left in the kettle from a previous guest. Minibars consist of overpriced crisps, crunchie bars and room temperate coke. The final straw came when I discovered that unless I slept with the window open in Room 3 my senses were overwhelmed by the distinctive smell of damp & dust. The window sills in the breakfast room were caked with dust and dead insects. In general light fittings and cords were filthy and towels are thin and need replacing. The chalet is described as a small hotel/ guesthouse however the accommodation would appear 'confused'..if this is a backpackers the prices are three times the amount you would pay and if this is a hotel/ guesthouse the standards need to dramatically improve. This is the worst accomodation I have ever stayed at, and had I not attended been attending a funeral I would have challenged the owners for my money back. I believe the owners need to experience the rooms for themselves to try and appreciate just how awful my experience was. Bring on Gordon Ramsey as this is one "Hotel From Hell' he ought to pay a visit to.

Stayed for a week had room on second floor got sun all day and awesome view. Rooms a little tired, value for money quite location very centrally located. Kelly and Barb lovely hosts breakfast great selection. Would stay again

The friendliness of the staff was stunning, the B&B is walking distance to Parnell and Newmarket. The rooms are tired, not very clean and noisy. While a cook breakfast was offered I opted for toast and coffee - other guests seemed pleased with their cooked meal. Despite the nice people I don't think I'll be going back - a total overhaul of the rooms is needed (and get someone else to do the laundry)

Sorry guys but....a very tired B&B. In much need of a good clean and refurb. In the bathroom starfish stuck to the wall with blue tack to try and hide cracks in the wall! Yucky old fashioned picture/thingys on the walls. Dust quite thick on ledges, light switches etc. Very tired towels, sheets, mismatched duvet covers and curtains! Very nice breakfast but didn't try the cooked breakfast, host was thankful that we didn't as she was busy!! All for $195 a night for 2. No such thing as parking!! Only 3 available and 2 must be for the owners. We were out on the street with all the other desperate people. After all that it was ok!! Will look further next time as we were a bit desperate.

This property looks amazing in the images to the Web. Do not be influenced by the photography. Probably true 10 years ago....Certainly, nothing like it is today. Aptly described as: Tired: Rundown: Grubby appearance: Little security: In fact when I arrived to check in the front door to the premises had been kicked in 3 nights prior.

This property requires a complete refurbishment and a good clean. We paid $230.00 per night for our room and breakfast and it was not good value for money. More hostel than bed and breakfast. The location was excellent but I cannot recommend this place.

The Chalet Chevron is a very sweet B&B. Nice rooms. Small bathroom and all that, but didn't really need all that much. We had a very cute room with a pretty view. Yummy breakfast too - but as most places there is instant coffee (plunger) but not a coffee machine. Although that's not a problem because the hosts kindly guide and recommend good places to eat and visit in Parnell and Auckland area. Would recommend.

Chalet Chevron was a lovely B&B, the room was very pleasant and the breakfast was excellent. But what impressed us the most was the friendliness of the host. It was our first day in NZ, and our only day in Auckland, and he made sure that we made the most of it, visited the high lights we wanted to see and steered us to a good restaurant nearby. Parnell is a quiet, pleasant neighborhood, but we had to take taxis and buses to get around and it would have been easier if we had stayed in town.

Home from home is a good way to describe this place. Hosts are friendly and do prepare a good breakfast. I liked the old fashioned fixtures throughout and home style comforts. Inadequate parking and on a busy road but, you don't hear the road noise. Thought a bit pricy but when I compare to some hotels with crappy, hostel feeling then I would stay at Chevron any day.
