Just don't.

First, she did not communicate check in procedures. When I got a hold of her I was informed the last person had lost the key so the door was unlocked and she would drop off the key under the mat the next day. When I arrived, a neighbor told me not to leave anything in the car as it would be stolen. When getting to the door at the back of the building, it generally felt unsafe. Upon opening the door, I found a mess and did not enter the apartment. I left and spoke with the neighbor again. She said there was no cleaner and that she would be worried about getting bugs. I left and filed a report with VRBO. The host has not responded to them.
