They stole our money, and Expedia won't help. When we arrived at the hotel, we were told that they are closed due to renovations. The hotel did not give us a refund. I called Expedia twice about this, and they said that since the hotel got paid, they are the ones who should give us a refund. Worse, Expedia continues to list this property on their website. This is fraud from the hotel and from Expedia.

stay well clear. They are not on your side!!!

I did not stay. I arrived late. They said they had 24 hour reception. They didn't. They did not let us in. We had to go somewhere else.

The staff were lovely, but the hotel itself was pretty ordinary. The bathroom was connected via a 3/4 wall to the neighbouring bathroom, so you could hear everything from the next room. Very annoying, especially at 2.30am when you are trying to sleep and it sounds like someone is having a party in your bathroom. Also the hot water was lukewarm with very low pressure. The hotel had a big red poster across the front door from the council to say they were closed for breaching regulation, so the front door was padlocked and in order to come and go we had to call for assistance to have the gate unlocked.

It's in a great location but our room was right on the street so a little noisy. The people who run the bed & breakfast are really helpful.

The people that own the hotel and the person that serves breakfast / cleans the rooms are wonderful. What ever we need they were there to help. My husband got sick and we need to extend, they were kind enough to let us stay in the same room. The location is fantastic, really doesn't get any better. For the money you really can't beat El Caminante. Take note that if you get a room on the street side it can be noisy at night, especially it you leave the door open a bit for air. Close the doors and ear plugs help.

The night-shift front desk cannot speak a word of English. Upon our arrival, no room was available as they have not checked the booking from Expedia and did not aware that we would be coming. They only checked reservation from booking.com. Finally she needed to wake up someone who can speak english. It took more than 2 hours before the problem can be solved. They put us in a room with bunk bed and shared bathroom. Yet they charged us the rate quoted in Expedia which is supposed to be a room with private bathroom. Worse than that, the English speaking manager says Expedia system must be wrong as they do not have any room with private bathroom. Would Expedia investigate on this matter?

A little gem

Love this little gem. The rooftop is an amazing place to watch the sunset in the evening and then enjoy your breakfast the next morning. The management let us leave our luggage for 3 days while we hiked the Colcha Canyon. When we arrived back, our bags were waiting for us in our room. The location is central to all you want to see in Arequipa and there many amazing places to eat and drink within minutes of the door. I will definitely be back ❤️

Good Hotel, good location but not quiet.

The location of this hotel is perfect, just few minute away from the Plaza de Armas and near the Santa Catalina monastery. the staff was great and welcoming. The room was spacious with a great view and very clean. But the room is next to a nightclub, we didn't sleep for the night cause of this nightclub. the local area is great but not quiet.

Clean and great location, not great otherwise

We stayed at both parts of this hotel, caminante class 1 & 2. Both have positives and negatives. In Class 2 - you are a bit away from the main part of the hotel (check in desk, staff, etc) but the wifi is better, there's no buzzer, and there are individual shower/toilet options. You also get a key to the lock to go in and out of the hotel. In Class 1 the rooms are connected to the bathrooms so it is very noisy as there are always people going in and out. Our room didn't get a wifi signal inside of it either. You also don't get a key to the lock to enter the hotel. Normally someone is there to let you in and out, but if there's not the buzzer is loud and it did make me wonder what would happen if someone wasn't there and a fire broke out...there's no other way out of the building. In both places the bed was not particularly comfortable either. Personally I would choose class 2 over 1. On the plus side, the bathrooms were kept very clean and the location was spectacular, just a block and a half from Plaza de Armas.
