We went for a romantic weekend away and where met with the stink of sewage in the reception and on our floor 8 it was so strong you had to hold your breath from the lift. after first night we complained and were up graded but in this room the beds where on wheels without brakes so if you leaned against headboard the beds moved across room. Staff where helpful but I would never go back.
My partner and I recently stayed at the Tropen Hotel. Upon arrival we were told that they had overbooked and therefore we had to stay at another hotel for the first 2 out of the 4 nights we were in Amsterdam. I had seen on Trip Advisor previously that this does seem to be a common occurrence with this hotel, but obviously didn’t think it would happen to us! Whilst this was extremely frustrating due to having to pack and move hotels halfway through such a short trip, the staff did seem apologetic and offered us free drinks whilst waiting for the taxi to take us to the other hotel (the taxi was paid for as well). The other hotel was much nicer too, so can’t complain about that! The taxi back to the Tropen Hotel was also paid for, as well as breakfast for the two days that we were there (although breakfast wasn’t great due to very few options, so we were glad we didn’t pay for this). The hotel is fine - the rooms are modern and we had a great view of the park on the 10th floor. However, the odour in the corridors is extremely off-putting. The smell is a mixture of sulphur and sewage and, whilst it is milder in the evening, it’s enough to make you feel slightly nauseous. We could smell it in our room at times which wasn’t great. My partner and I literally had to hold our breath when leaving our room until getting in the lift to reception where the smell was not as noticeable. On the day of checking out, upon checking the room to make sure we had packed everything, we found a pair of dirty underpants underneath the bed that did not belong to us! Such a shame as the room did seem clean, however it was obviously not inspected properly before allowing new guests into the room. Overall, I think it’s a good hotel for a night or two, especially as it’s such a good price. However I would only consider going back if I knew the bad smell had been sorted.
We booked this hotel last minute not knowing what to expect and I have to say it was lovely! Our room was spacious and clean with a huge window with a beautiful view of the city. The hotel is finished well and has nice decor. The breakfast was an extra €15 per person but not very impressive so we spent the other mornings heading over the road to a lovely cafe. The staff were friendly and helpful, helping us out with the trams and giving us maps etc. Would be happy to stay here again and would recommend to friends.
We stayed here for 3 nights during feb half term, booked through Thomas cook city escapes and it was great! Our room had a massive bed which was so comfy, large tv, tea&coffee facilities, massive windows overlooking the nearby park, clean open shower room(with hairdryer) Couldn’t fault out stay here! Was a little out of the centre but a 10/15 min walk past plenty of bars and cafes and your there in no time. There is also a McDonald’s, KFC and Lidl just 5 mins away across the road which was handy
Lovely people/service, beautiful room with daily cleaning, good facilities. The tram stop is right outside the hotel which is helpful, not right in the centre so not much noise on a night would definitely recommend and stay again.
I’ve canceled my booking 12.02.2018. After 19 working days, money haven’t been returned, nobody is answering, just silence! Awful service. Tomorrow will do chargeback in my bank. DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS HOTEL.
Great hotel, staff very helpful and smiley. My travelling partner enjoyed the sweets in reception. We had breakfast as part of put package, brilliant. The hotel is not in the Centre of Amsterdam but there are plenty of trams nearby and it doesn’t take long to walk
The room was cozy but comfortable with a king-sized bed (I believe it was two singles combined, but did not notice the difference). Conveniently located around multiple tram lines, with a great view of the park. The front-desk concierge was very friendly and always willing to help whenever we needed it, in addition to the fact that they allowed us to check in early in the morning despite the official check-in time being 3pm. One tip regarding heaters: you need to find a hole in the panel that spans across the room (below the window), and reach your hand in through there to access the controls. There weren't clear instructions regarding this so we had to learn from a tripadvisor review. Also, though they didn't affect the quality of our stay at all, here are two things that might be helpful to know: the hotel seems to be an eco-friendly hotel, so they are minimal in bathroom amenities (no conditioner, lotion, etc.); and though some descriptions say that each room has a mini-fridge, ours did not have one. Again, neither detracted from the quality of our stay, but are good to know.
The Tropen Hotel is colocated with the Tropen Museum on Tram Route 9 directly accessible from Amsterdam Central Railway Station. The hotel is next to an attractive park which is full of life. The hotel is going through a big modernisation programme but the rooms are already very comfortable. The staff are friendly and helpful. On the last night of our stay a guest returned to the hotel drunk and possibly high on some product from the local cannabis cafés. He was incredibly loud and disruptive waking up everyone on our floor. The night staff worked hard to control the situation and had the Police efficiently remove this person. I mention this because hotels cannot always foresee the behaviour of their guests but the Tropen team excelled in resolving the problem which seemed very out of the ordinary. Breakfast had a wide choice of hot and cold offerings which were all kept topped up. There are plenty of bars and restaurants in the area for evening meals. The safe and kettle in the room made our stay more comfortable. One final point, there were no plugs beside the bed which is a problem for iPhones etc. However, I would definitely return there
It as pleasure to use Tropen Hotel in Amsterdam. Nice staff, clean and cosy room with perfect view over Amsterdam city. The breakfast was very delicious, nice fruits and espresso. The hotel is in a park which is very nice for short relaxing walk and convenient for jogging. There are nice places to eat around and it is very close to the main city center.
