I had high expectations with this hotel, based on fotos and localization. But unfortunately the rooms are smaller than na pictures. Arround the hotel there are a lot of refurbished, so is difficult to walking arround. The staff was very kind.
Average hotel with a fairly good view if you get a room above the 5th floor, apart from the fact that there is no room service and the fact that there is a balcony in each room which you arnt allowed to enter, the staff were friendly and the location is 10 minutes away from the city center.
The Hotel is situated in a very attractive environment surrounded by trees and greens with good accommodation and meals. I loved their philosophy of caring for the environment and use of eco friendly tech.
Stayed at the Tropen Hotel. We would definitely stay here again! We were a little intrepid when our taxi dropped us out front on the street. You could see the hotel tower - definitely in need of some TLC on the outside, including the court yard leading up to the hotel which someone had to direct us to. Once inside we knew we were in the right place. Friendly staff and very welcoming. Our room was what is described in the other posts, Clean, decent decor, small bathroom and a king mattress. Perfect for people who don't want to pay Sheraton prices and want to be out and about. Location was great on the first afternoon we walked to central station and all around and back to Hotel. If your a walker very easy to do. We did get a transit pass the next day that allowed us to do more. Tram stops are outside hotel. Breakfast was very good (15 Euro). the eating area was beautiful as you have a view of the park. Sadly we are returning to Amsterdam on the the 21st of June for two more nights before we fly back to Vancouver on the 23rd.....we had already booked another hotel :-( Steve and Carly Surrey BC
Honestly couldn't rate this place more! The staff were exceptionally friendly, the rooms were modern with comfortable beds (and ours with a wonderful view of Oosterpark) and it was never too crowded that you couldn't get help as and when you needed it. They had bikes to hire to ride around the park plus the reception staff helped us organise a few trips too! If I came again I'd definitely stay here - it had everything we needed and was just a 15-20 min tram to Dam Square. :)
+ve- tram connection , near dapper market , nice oosterpark behind, clean and tidy , bar and restaurants nearby , safe in room, nice lift, overall will recommend -Ve - no fan of air conditioner, small room , small bathroom ,non smoking
Great hotel in good location. Fantastic views from the 8th floor. Small wetroom type bathroom with shower and sink. Separate loo is small and bijoux. Beds are comfy and windows open to allow a breeze. The bar overlooks the park which has loads of wildlife, turtles, herons, small parrots, ducks and lots of dogs. The park has a splash pool for kids to have fun in. There are plenty of great cafes and restaurants and a short tram, taxi ride takes you to the centre. We took the hop on and off bus and boat trip which was a great way to see the city. Gassan diamonds is really interesting, red light district is a must but give the museum of prostitution a miss, zoo was good, ice bar was fun but disappointingly small. Too much fun to fit into a long weekend. We loved it!
The upper floors with a park view are really nice. I was surprised how quiet it was even with the window open. The rooms are okay size if you get the large rooms. The bathroom is split between a WC and the sink/shower room. Both are tiny but adequate. Be aware that there is no AC in the rooms. The breakfast was better than expected with hot options as well as cold. This is a really nice part of town on a really nice park. It is a bit outside the more touristy areas and for me that is a plus.
OK so when you turn up and see this from the outside you might be justified in thinking you've arrived at Nelson Mandela House in Peckham. And I reckon it probably is a converted estate block. However, it's really a rather nicely decorated hotel which is located just far enough away from the hustle and bustle of town. OK it might seem like a trek for those of you who like to stay in the middle of things, BUT the #9 tram runs here from the Centraal Station every 10 mins, so it's a doddle to get to most places in town. And the tram stops right outside the hotel. Bonus. Rooms aren't huge and could to with a bit of a refurb, but they're comfy. Staff are friendly and helpful. I just wouldn't bother with the breakfast - very poor selection for a whopping 15 Euros per person. There's plenty of nice cafes (NOT the smoker cafes.......) in the area where you can pick up a bite to eat in the morning. Overall, recommended.
This hotel in not right in the main part of the city, and I was a little concerned at first, but you have very easy access to the city with the trams, one stops right in front of the hotel, so really easy to get into the main part of the city. Right beside the Tropen Museum and Oosterpark, a lovely local park. The hotel is a bit older looking on the outside but is very clean, bright and fresh looking on the inside. We were on the top floor - the 10th, and had very nice views of the city., plus could here the birds singing in the morning, which I like. The included breakfast was awesome, lots to choose from and friendly staff. I would definitely stay here again. Very quiet!
