This is the second Vila Gale hotel we have stayed in and both where equally good with excellent helpful staff and facilities. The food is always of a good standard with plenty of choice for all diets. A good central location with ample parking nearby.
Stayed here for a week over Christmas on a walking holiday. The hotel is very convenient for access by car and a short walk along the river to the centre of Tavira. Park car for free in nearby car park to avoid the 7 euros a night charge for on site parking. Rooms are spacious, comfortable and clean.Rooms overlooking the internal courtyard are quieter than those facing the road Buffet breakfast well stocked with a choice of cold and hot food. Apart from a good choice of starters and reasonably priced house wine the buffet dinner was disappointing and well below the standard I expect from a 4 star hotel. It was a nightly challenge to find the least unappetizing main course from a range of poorly cooked dishes. After dinner coffee simply dire.
Room - good - cleaners do a good job Location - good and convenient Amenities - good - nice hotel shop Tavira has its nice parts but unfortunately too much graffiti and rundown buildings Food - breakfasts & desserts good but main courses almost below average
Good breakfast buffe. The location is central and easy to reach everything without a car. Closed to centrum and many restaurant but the restaurant in the Hotel is also very good, The room was very clean and nice. It was to cold to test the poolarea.
Stayed here in November 2017 and had a lovely relaxing time. The hotel is at the flyover end of town but only a 10-15 minute walk into the centre and to the old roman bridge. The train station is a 20 minute walk and there is a bus stop right opposite and also the land train stops there too. Check-in was easy and straight-forward and was given a lovely room on the top floor (2nd floor) which overlooked the front of the hotel with views into the centre. The room was large and looked newly decorated and was very clean. Beds and furnishings all excellent and the bathroom was a good size with a bath and shower over it. Beds and towels changed very regularly (every 2 days) and new bathroom toiletries supplied daily. Rooms have a fridge/mini bar that has some water which is chargable if drunk (though you can just put in your own drinks), a safe (€2 a day) and air-con which is free. Our balcony was large with a table and chairs but some of the lower floor rooms seemed to have smaller balconies. Small lattice fences help divide the balconies. Although the room faced the road it wasn't too bad when the doors were closed at night. You could hear people walking in the corridor as it is tiled and also people pulling cases or the maids pushing the trollies and this was a bit annoying if early morning. The walls could certainly be thicker too but overall we had a decent sleep. We stayed bed and breakfast and found the breakfast selection was excellent - the usual hot food available (eggs, beans, bacon, tomato, sausage, mushrooms), also an "egg station" where you could get eggs of your choice inc. omelette, cold meats and cheese, cereals, fruits, juices, cakes and even some local fizz to help wake you up. The dining room was very clean and tidy and tables cleared quickly. Drinks in the hotel were more than local bars and restaurants but that is expected, however they were still reasonable. We didn't use the pool due to the time of year but i can imagine it would get busy during summer. It was well laid out and was kept clean. Due to the style of hotel and the layout it did seem more of a couples/adults hotel than for families. The staff we met were very polite and helpful and the hotel was very clean and well looked after. The hotel is a short walk from Taviras many bars and restaurants which are all reasonably priced. Overall we enjoyed our stay and would happily stay again.
...and well situated a mere 10 minute walk from the town centre. Built around a central pool with every facility, this works well. The bar is a bit dull and underlit. The rooms are fine and on 3 floors, so not far to go upwards! WiFi everywhere, although not great in the huge breakfast room. As at November, lots of Germans.
This hotel is fabulously located for full enjoyment and access to the medieval town of Tavira and the magnificent nearby beaches. The hotel is spacious and comfortable with a generous sized pool and poolside food and beverages available all day. The many historical churches, buildings and bridges in the town are all within walking distance. A regular ferry embarks from a point about 100 meters from the hotel costing just €2, takes about 15 to 20 minutes to get to the local beach. It is well worth the journey. The beach area has a wide range of restaurants and food outlets so an entire can be planned.
I was in a comfy and quiet room. The food was amazing specially in the theme days like portuguese and brazilian nights. I loved specially the friendly and warm treatment I received by the staff. The guys of the animation team Louis and Johnny were so funny and lovely. The funny king Neptune every morning is awesome. And also the guy from reception named Marcello with a good level of language and the most important thing to me, the sweetness and charisma. I only have a little negative thing to say. The time to enter in the restaurant in the breakfast. But I'll be back in Tavira again for sure.
Location is so central - everything in town is just a short stroll from the hotel including restaurants and ferry to the beach. I had a room overlooking the pool and a sunny balcony. The wooden pained furniture needed sprucing up but the room and bed were so clean and comfortable and the cleaners so efficient and nice that I had no complaints. The only time the hotel was busy was at breakfast as many guests seemed to go on tours or were away playing golf all day hence plenty of room at the pool all day and the bonus of warm sunshine for October. Reception staff were helpful and the hotel was clean and well run. the breakfast buffet was good and the bar, although dark and lacking in atmosphere, had a good selection and was not too expensive. A slight quibble is that fruit juices tasted synthetic and too sugary. I had a massage in the spa which was excellent. I'd like to return soon!
We had stayed in another Vila Gale property and were so happy that we decided to stay in another. This place was adequate but disappointing. The main reason was the staff which was not accommodating so different than our previous experience. Hotel needs a little work. There aren't a lot of choices in Tavira so they can get by. Rooms are fine, it's clean overall it's ok. Mainly a staff issue and I believe it was a senior person at the desk too bad. Hi
