Four days of golf for 27 holes each day meant that we could enjoy breakfast and a drink before going out to dinner and not much more. The hotel was clean and the staff welcoming. The rooms were comfortable and well appointed, although on the second floor the shower was somewhat under powered. It is within easy walking distance of many good local restaurants
Booked to stay here for one week for 3 people, overall we thought the hotel was clean, the breakfast great (anyone who couldn't find something to their liking has a problem!), the staff friendly, helpful and polite and the hotel itself is within walking distance of the towns cafes, shops, bars, etc. We felt very comfortable and enjoyed our stay immensely. The one thing that they could improve on is the evening entertainment, it was not good and it's a shame as the lounge bar is big and could be full each evening, other than that a great hotel and we would definitely stay again.
Typically Portuguese, cobble stones lots of little restaurants down side roads lovely food in every restaurant we visited, Tip would be if you find restaurants you think you like it's a good idea to book a day or too before to avoid disappointment as they are all popular.hotel was nice but quiet, stayed bed and breakfast so can only comment on breakfast which was nice and plentiful.it was our anniversary while we were there & on arriving back to room was a bottle of bubbly & strawberries which was a nice touch.we didn't have any problems with sunbeds always available.down side hotel walls paper thin entertainment virtually non excistant that didn't bother us as went out every evening.there is a ferry boat a short walk away that takes you to a beautiful beach sunbeds & parasols available about 9-10 euro for the day.therest is a nice square in the centre were you can sit having a drink watch the world go by.
We stayed at this hotel for three days in June. It is well located at the edge of this very attractive small town and close to the river ferry terminal to reach Tavira Island which is well worth a visit. Our room , as many others, overlooked the large rectangular pool and there is an array of flowers adorning the balconies. Very attractive. The decor, including carpets, of entrance and corridors is very good and very clean. Staff at reception and particularly in the dining room were less than welcoming and verging on the miserable but the animation team were just the opposite taking time to chat with everyone and entertain the youngsters. Thanks to Rita and the boys. The pool seemed to be the main facility but unused which was soon to be explained by the freezing cold water. False economy for sure. There were mosquitoes poolside and spray is needed. Also disappointing was charging 2.50 euros per day to use the room safe. The rooms are a reasonable size but there is a lack of storage space generally with the fridge in the wardrobe, just three small drawers in total and none by the bedside. So the room is cluttered and you have to use your cases for storing half your belongings. The double bed is two singles made up and then pushed together. Not good and to be repeated at their sister hotel in Lagos so it looks like company policy. Surface space is also minimal in the bathroom. No kettle in the room as the hotel obviously see this as a means of boosting their own tea and coffee sales. The restaurant is like a 1950's works canteen with childlike chairs and dark green and brown paint dullness. For us this was a one visit only dinner buffet catering for their numerous coach parties. We experienced very limited choice, lukewarm soup and chips, empty ice cream tubs and minimalist salads. The breakfast buffet was of a better standard. There are numerous cafes and restaurants between the hotel and the centre of town, plus a small corner shop, with amazingly low prices for food and drinks.
Hotel with friendly staff, situated in a very beautiful city. Nice restaurant with good food, very good breakfast, enjoyed everything. Swimming pool with a good animation team. Neuza from the bar was friendly and always with smile. When I left the hotel gonçalo was nice
Having stayed here 5 years ago we decided to return, Tavira is a very traditional town lots of family restaurants and history. there are not many large 4 hotels , hence our return here. The rooms are large enough and have been updated. Breakfast is well presented but the wait for cooked eggs is in unacceptable. People pushing in front for omelette fillings whilst waiting for eggs to be cooked , 2 staff in each other’s way tryin* to work in a confined space. The pool area is very clean and there are plenty of sun beds, but your peace and tranquility is constantly interupted by the animation team asking to want to play table tennis/football / aerobics etc, fine if you have kids but as 90% of the guests were mature couples this is very annoying. The restaurant and bar decoy are in something of a time warp. Ecellant location for walking into town or ferry to a Tavira Island , free car park close by.
Sadly I think this is the last time we'll be staying here, we've been coming here for many years. Recent reviews on TripAdvisor for this hotel have been remarkably accurate, so I won't go into detail about e.g. it not really being a 4 star hotel (because it's a long way off), or the noise/lack of finesse or the breakfast quality. What I find disappointing is that the hotel hasn't kept up to date or with the times. We first came here with our children 12 years ago, and it's exactly the same as it was then. The hotel surrounds you with images of other Vila Gale hotels that look amazing, even the small TV in bedroom blasts a glossy loop of advertising for their other properties both in Portugal and elsewhere. The place is spotless, the staff welcoming, but for £150 a night it's too outdated now, tired furniture and fittings. Sadly I think it's going to be another hotel the next time we visit this wonderful town, I'd like a bit more quality for my holiday next time. Having said all of that, if you get an incredible deal somehow for the place and don't mind a 3 star hotel as a base for B&B then it would represent value for money.
This hotel is very much aimed at coach tourists or so it seemed during our weeks stay. Not many English people around not that this bothered us. Staff are friendly, efficient and helpful but the hotel is rather dated. Rooms were of generous size and clean. Only real complaint was the shower over the bath which is not the modern way. Breakfast was the usual bunfight and only heavily smoked bacon available rather than a choice. Acceptable but mass produced quality.
This is quite a strange hotel. Overall it lacks any real character, charm or element of luxe comfort but it is somewhat functional & spotlessly clean. It is therefore in reality a 3 star property. The tone of my review might sound somewhat negative but that is because this hotel is misrepresenting itself. The hotel is really well located and easy to find. Parking both paid and free was abundant in the immediate area and over the 3 days we never had to pay for parking. Everything in tavira was a pleasant walk away from the hotel - Tavira is charming. If you run there is a nice loop from the hotel which crossed the river for a few Kms. Within 1min walking distance there are two restaurants Mamma Mia ( cheap as chips pizza - but super quality ) and Pausa which is a tidy little tapas restaurant. The decor and design of the hotel is an odd, very dated, Moroccan or Arabian theming. It has aged really badly and the hotel seems stuck in 1987. But to be fair to the hotel nothing in terms of decor or furniture is dirty, broken or unusable - it is all well maintained and operational. But flogging a dead horse does spring to mind.... Checkin was fine - I was amused to see actual paper booking forms in folio files at the front desk and a giant thick TV behind the desk with the car park CCTV on show. The tv was at least 20 years old. It's small things like this that say a lot. Amenities in the hotel appear plentiful but the reality is a little different....the pool is fine. It's clean and safe for families with lifeguards etc. But no bar or restaurant poolside - like a 4* hotel might normally have. The gym is a sham. It is the worst of the worst hotel gym room from a bygone era. If you want to train - just get outside and run! The bar and restaurant are again just a horror show aesthetically and lack even a single splash of comfort or luxe touch. Avoid! There is a scary events timetable in the lobby. One for kids. One for adults. Both seemed to offer exactly the same activities to me! The kids club room is in urgent need of a remodel - but again it was clean and safe. Our room ( 2016 ) was only just 3 star in look and feel. Unfortunately though It was by some way sub 3 star in terms of modern amenities - no iron, mini bar or no tea/ coffee making facilities and no daily snacks -there was simply nothing in the room which could be described as fun or exciting. There was however a bizzare old safe which required a rental paid lock for operation. The room had no USB ports and a real lack of plugs sockets - I think it had two. In total. The aircon whilst clearly archaic worked quite well. The Hair dryer was a useless 1990 relic which sort of whispered out warm air. I am happy to report there was a tv. Yay. In room wifi was fine - but it had no password! This is just not acceptable in this day and age. Our bed, which were twins, was horrific. Really uncomfortable. And it blankets and sheets - is it just me that finds this odd? All in all - remember this is a 4* property - one of the most depressing rooms I've ever stayed in. The bathroom was decent but once again aging. It was however, and once again, absolutely spotless with plentiful towels and products that didn't make my skin burn! We had a little balcony but our view was a petrol station with car wash. The noise from the car wash was hilarious. It was akin to the loudest hair dryer you've ever heard. All day. The guy that owns that car wash makes serious money! We had breakfast on one morning of our 3 day stay - which says a lot. The omelette station was ok I guess ( but still only a 4/ 10 ) but the rest of the fayre was more akin to Butlins 1988 than an international 4 star hotel. My descriptive ability won't do the feeding stations or room justice but let's just say it was my idea of hell. Hundreds of people crammed in to a giant barn like space all fighting over a space in the q for their bacon. Honestly it felt like an east European hospital canteen. From the 1950s! I still can't believe this hotel is legally allowed call itself a 4* property!
Spacious room, additional charge for use of the safe - petty and cheap. Double bed was fine. U shaped bldg. with a nice pool. Even the outward facing rooms are quiet, Tavira not a busy city. This chain has this weird custom, a couple of employeees are designated as "happiness ambassadors" or some such crap, and these people in the bright t-shirts go to each table and offer hugs, sing songs, or in one case dressed in what can only be described as a 2nd rate big bird outfit, tried to hug and kiss my wife. It was creepy. Breakfast was standard for the chain: omelette station, fried and scrambled eggs, sausage and bacon, fruit, yoghurt, breads and croissants, juice and coffee. They try to sell 8 euro per day parking in the underground garage when there is ample safe street parking. Very noisy lobby. Seems popular with tour groups.
