Seafield Tower History Circa 1876
By the mid-1880s, the sand dunes of Glenelg's esplanade had long given way to the summer residences of the prominent and wealthy of South Australia. Previously known as Albert Parade, and then Seawall, South Esplanade was once a promenade of magnificent Victorian mansions and summer gardens. With time, these mansions slowly began to occupy land beyond the dunes morphing Glenelg's streets into a suburb of character and charm.
State Heritage-listed Seafield Tower was the first of its kind built along the esplanade. It was designed as two self-contained, 15 room summer residences for Sir Henry Ayers and Sir Thomas Elder, when both were in their late fifties. Ayers made his fortune from the Burra Copper Mines that secured the wealth and future of the colony of South Australia. Uluru - Ayers Rock in the Northern Territory is named in his honor. Elder was a pastoralist, businessman, philanthropist and politician. Ayers inhabited the northern side and Elder the southern. Each residence had a separate staircase to the tower, but the landing was communal.
Adelaide's Popular Seaside Location - Glenelg Beach
Bayside Glenelg draws families to its long, sandy beach and the Beach house amusement center, with waterslides, rides and arcade games. The Bay Discovery Centre in the 1870s Town Hall has local history exhibits including a vintage swimwear collection, and dolphin-spotting cruises cast off from nearby Holdfast Marina. Laid-back pubs, organic cafes, global eateries and indie boutiques give the area a trendy vibe.

The beach view was gorgeous. The property overall was nice and roomy, and in a perfect location. Great access to the shops, playground, beach and other facilities.Downside - The weather at times was terrible so the gaps around the door to the front veranda let the ferocious wind through. This meant there was quite a cold draft, and it was hard to warm the room even though we had the aircon on high throughout out stay. (We live in Darwin, so we needed to get the chill out of the air at least.) There were stains on the carpet.Main bedroom - The sliding door was very difficult to open and close. There was only 1 power point away from the bed which meant my husband and I could not use our CPAP machines until we were able to get an extension cord and power board to power them up. Additional power points would have been helpful either side of the bed.2nd bedroom - additional power points would be handy, and a screen & better lock on the window would give better security. Without the window open, there is no airflow in the room.Other helpful additions - Access to a vacuum cleaner. Additional towel racks in the bathroom.Enough crockery for 7 people.Host - I did receive good communication from our host asking if there was anything we needed so I appreciated knowing they were there to help. We were often in and out doing things, so instead of worrying too much, we managed to get by with what we had available to us. Overall, we really enjoyed our stay. Thank you!!

Great location
Very tidy and clean accomodation which suited our family. The location right on the promonade was the highlight; close to Jetty Road, walking path, beach, and ideal car parking for busy Glenelg. Bedside tables with lamps would be advisable, as we missed having these.

Enjoyable
We initially found it a little difficult to find the address, No 7 not clearly marked, beautiful view from the front room was obscured by a very salty/dirty window, after we cleaned that it was fine, the front outdoor area was messy from falling tree debris and weeds were present in the paving, apart from these minor flaws the property was impeccable, totally enjoyed our stay and will endeavour to go again

Amazing location accurate to description
This property within an amazing location, super easy to find great parking and access. Really close and easy to get around everywhere in Adelaide.
Definitely, the highlight was being able to walk out the front door and straight across to the beach looking out there on sunsets and swimming every morning. This made for an amazing holiday.
Lots of bedding and space for our teenagers
One minute walk to shops and lots of fantastic eateries
Being able to use a kitchenette meant it made that holiday more affordable
We would definitely come back
Thank you so much

Long Weekend getaway
Location was amazing - perfect for a long weekend get away. Close to so much and short distance to other great attractions.
Beautiful old building, that had everything we needed. Very small issues around maintenance that I am 100% sure the property managers will address and it will be perfect for the next people who stay there
