Lost by design.
If you are visiting the Yucatan then the parks and activities around Xcaret are a must see. The nearby hotel Arte is an integral part of this ecosystem and worth a visit in itself. Depending on your viewpoint and navigational abilities: hotel Arte was either designed by an architectural genius or sinister joker! Never has walking 10,000 steps in a day been so effortless or fun and that’s just trying to reach the restaurant for breakfast. Finding your room again after is also an ongoing challenge but don’t worry you can always use Google maps, binoculars, or maybe just get Siri to repeat ‘Hola’ on your iPhone every 30 seconds. That last solution will be sure to attract either a passing iguana or member of the hotel’s ‘priesthood’ - they are everywhere and very helpful. Dressed in a kind of 21st century Mayan ‘minimilist chic’ plus trainers (a Nike sponsorship opportunity for sure) they are experts in pop-up assistance just when you need it and you will need it! The hotel does not have a long conventional beach but a series of small secluded bays along the river system around the complex. That takes some getting used to along with the occasional scream as bikini clad maidens exit the water fast - when they discover that there are actually things called fish sharing that space. Yes it’s an eco-park and topographical ‘experience’ as well as a hotel destination but a unique and very different experience from all the other more conventional resorts. Try it!!
