The Flight from New Orleans to New York

The 1,150-mile journey north from New Orleans in Louisiana to New York City takes just under three hours, although you’ll spend less than two-and-a-half hours in the air – the rest of the time is spent taxiing to and from the runway.

If you draw a straight line from New Orleans to New York on the map it would run right down the middle of the Appalachian Mountains, but your plane will fly along one side of the range. The route to the east of the mountains Takes you over Alabama, Georgia, South and North Carolina, Virginia and Maryland. This route is quicker but sometimes weather conditions and air traffic mean the plane will take the slightly longer route to the west, flying over Mississippi, Tennessee, Kentucky and Ohio.
