Flights to Syracuse Hancock International Airport (SYR) land just five miles from downtown - however, the Centro bus service does not run to the airport. Your best option is to take a taxi to the nearby William F Walsh Transportation Center, from where you can easily take a Centro bus into downtown Syracuse.
Syracuse is an important hub in central New York. Nicknamed the City of Festivals, it's known for its packed calendar of events and a busy downtown convention complex. Home to the annual Great New York State Fair, the city is also well served by a number of interesting museums and attractions.
Families visiting Syracuse will want to head straight to the Rosamond Gifford Zoo, which is home to some unusual animals as well as the usual suspects. In the city center, the Syracuse Heritage Area Visitor Center is informative, and hosts the Erie Canal Museum, which tells the story of this canal helped fuel America's growth.
Nearby, the Onondaga Historical Association Museum and Research Center features a permanent exhibition about Syracuse's role in the Underground Railroad.
If you're looking for nightlife, check out downtown Armory Square, or head to the University district (especially Marshall Street) which is busy with pubs and student hangouts.
