When most people mention Telluride, it is followed by something to do with snow or skiing. What many don't know is that Telluride is a community with a rich history and a culture that thrives year-round, including during months without snow. Orbitz.com can help you find cheap flights to Telluride, whether you want to ski and snowboard or attend the Mountain Film Festival.
Making the trek to Telluride is an adventure in itself. You will most likely fly into Denver International Airport and then board a smaller commercial flight to Durango-La Plata County Airport. From there, you will board a charter flight that will take you to Telluride Regional Airport, 1500 Last Dollar Road, Telluride, Colorado 81435. The airport is located 5 miles west of Telluride. To get from the airport to Telluride, you can either rent a car from Hertz or National, or you can use a taxi or limo service, such as Mountain Limo, Telluride Express or Alpine Luxury Limos.
Telluride has all four seasons, but winters are not as severe as most people think. The coldest month is January, when temperatures average around 40 degrees Fahrenheit. You will need winter apparel, but you won't experience bone-chilling cold. July is the warmest month, with temperatures topping 95 degrees. Summer clothes, such as shorts, T-shirts and sandals, are appropriate. There is plenty to do while visiting Telluride. Winter visitors will want to hit the ski slopes and take part in other snow-related activities, but visitors can also take a ride on the Telluride/Mountain Village Gondola, visit the Telluride History Museum, explore Mountain Village and stroll down Main Street. During the rest of the year, visitors can visit places such as the San Miguel River and Bear Creek Falls and take a Telluride Horseback Adventure.
From the Telluride Film Festival and music festivals to Brews and Blues and traditional skiing activities, Telluride has a lot to offer visitors. Let Orbitz.com help you find cheap flights to Telluride, where melting snow is not the end of the adventure; it is only the beginning.
Winter holidays and summer weekends tend to command the highest prices in Telluride. August thunderstorms can briefly soak streets and trails, but the month is often dry, with an average humidity of about 10 percent. Aside from the occasional hot or cold spell, the temperature fluctuates between around 30 in January to 76 in July—milder, in general, than some other Colorado resorts farther north. There are so many summer festivals in Telluride that the town has designated one July weekend as the Nothing Festival—no staff, no passes, no schedule, no T-shirts, no nothing. Every other space on the calendar is taken up by mountain-themed films (Memorial Day), balloons (June), bluegrass (June), plein-air painting (July), jazz and mushrooms and chamber music and culinary arts (August), and the great Telluride Film Festival (Labor Day).
Like the rest of the Rockies, there’s a high-desert climate here, even if 300 inches of snow come down in a good winter. If it’s not snowing, it’s bright and sunny (some 300 days a year). And with an in-town elevation of 8,750 feet, that sun is strong. Bring plenty of high-SPF sunscreen. January brings the cold, but March brings the most snow and deepest bases on the mountain.
The shoulder seasons (October/November and April/May) are the quietest and the cheapest, since they fall in between ski area operations and everything else.
