Round Rock is a city to the north of Austin, with a pioneering past and a welcoming present. It’s named after a circular stone, which you can still see today, that marked the crossing point of a river for travelers heading west in wagons. Today it’s known for its tech businesses, its high standard of living, and its devotion to sports.

Rent a car through Orbitz to drive around Downtown Red Rock and out to attractions such as a popular water park. Having a car will allow you to travel into Austin, as well as to the seasonally flowering hills of the surrounding region.

Round Rock and beyond: Traveling through Texas

Round Rock is placed near some of Texas’ finest city-break destinations, as well as enchanting rural escapes. We’ve chosen three nearby destinations to visit in your rental car.

Austin

Austin is known as the live music capital of the world. It’s a bold claim, but it’s also hard to dispute. Come here at any time of the year to enjoy an always-eclectic program of live music performances. SXSW and Austin City Limits are two of the biggest events, the latter hosted in popular Zilker Park. For the true Austin vibe, however, just rock up to a live music venue on any given night, and enjoy whoever is playing.

Kingsland

Take time out of city-hopping to visit this small town in Llano County. It’s one of the best places in spring to see Hill Country’s legendary wildflowers, including fields of bluebonnets. Drive out of Round Rock and spot the flowers right by the city’s edge, then head out to the abandoned railroad near Kingsland to see fields and tracks overrun with colorful blooms.

San Antonio

The best way to experience the atmospheric, historic city of San Antonio is to stroll along its River Walk. This atmospheric stretch of the city is home to some of its best restaurants, shops and events. Wander along the river to see the San Antonio Museum of Art, the Briscoe Western Art Museum, and the Tower Life Building. Nearby, you’ll find the famous battle site of the Alamo.
