Find cheap car rental deals in Rome, Italy

The Colosseum, the Trevi Fountain and the Sistine Chapel might top the list of Rome’s most famous must-sees, but beyond these headline historic sights a thriving modern world of food, drink and art awaits. Rent a car and you can discover it all at your leisure.

Explore Rome: A City With Many Faces

Not sure where to begin in Rome? Here are just a few ideas to get you started – both inside the city boundaries and beyond.

The Vatican

No first-time visit to Rome is complete without entering the resplendent world of Vatican City. The heartland of the Roman Catholic Church is not only home to the Pope himself but to treasures including St. Peter’s Basilica, Michelangelo’s famous Sistine Chapel ceiling and the countless religious masterpieces of the Vatican Museums.

Pigneto

This characterful neighborhood doesn’t make it onto every Rome itinerary, but it should. This is the place to dine out at some of the city’s coolest restaurant and rub shoulders with the youthful crowd who flock to the bars here. As it’s a little way from the center, a rental car can come in handy here.

Pompeii

Drive southeast from Rome and you can reach one of the world’s best-known Roman ruins within two hours and 30 minutes. This ancient city was buried in layers of ash after the nearby volcano Mount Vesuvius exploded, and as a result it remains remarkably well-preserved well over 1,000 years on.

Rent a car for your Rome trip now and you can collect it as soon as you arrive.

Renting a Car in Rome: What You Need to Know

You’ll want to rent a car as soon as you can so you don’t waste a minute of your time in the glamorous Italian capital. Here are the facts you’ll need to get started.

Where can I rent a car in Rome?

Car rental companies are scattered throughout Rome’s central districts. Choose from well-known brands such as Avis, Hertz, Europcar and Budget. You’ll find further choice at Leonardo da Vinci International Airport.

Can under-25s rent a car in Rome?

You can officially rent a car in Rome from the age of 18, provided you have had your driver’s license for at least a year. In practice, though, many companies set their lower age limit at 19 or 21, and many will charge an additional fee for anyone under 25. Policies vary, so check a wide range of options to get the best deal.

What forms of identification will I need when I collect my rental car?

You’ll need your passport – or an internationally recognized ID card – as well as a valid driver’s license. As mentioned above, you need to have passed your driving test at least a year ago.

Can I pay for my rental car by cash or debit card?

Most car rental companies in Rome only accept credit card payments. However, there are a few exceptions to this rule, and if you shop around you may find a company that will take your debit card. Cash payments are not usually accepted.
