50 kilometers north outside of Dubrovnik standing tall are the ancient walls of Ston and pure natural beauty of Peljesac Peninsula. It has been well-known for its mussel and oysters growing farms since Roman times. It is a small town with the longest stone wall in Europe (5,5km) with narrow quiet streets and noble old houses with traces of ancient cultures.

Ston was a major fort of the Ragusan Republic whose defensive walls were regarded as a notable feat of medieval architecture. The end of the Bay of Mali Ston is notable for its mariculture. Its former value as a -salt city- gets confirmed even today in the plants of the oldest active salt-works in the world. Since ancient times, the Peljesac peninsula has been adorned with grapevine plantations and wine production. Wine production has a long tradition in this area and it is one of the most important commercial activities.
