Wailua River & Waimea Canyon Tour

by Polynesian Adventure Tours - Gray Line Hawaii Duration 7h Free cancellation available No booking or credit card fees
per adult Price is $122

From the comfort of an air-conditioned tour bus, see Garden Isle highlights such as the majestic Waimea Canyon and historic towns. Afterward, hop on a boat for a scenic cruise up the serene Wailua River to the legendary Fern Grotto.

Known as the Grand Canyon of the Pacific, the Waimea Canyon is one of the great wonders of Hawaii. Ten miles (16 km) long, over 3,000 feet (900 m) deep, and a mile (1.6 km) wide, this canyon was formed by the collapse of a volcano and carved by the extreme rainfall on the island’s central peak, Mount Wai’ale’ale. Stand on the edge of this magnificent landscape and marvel at the colorful canyon. Several stops are made along the way to allow you to stretch your legs, take in the picturesque vistas, and snap photos.

As you leave the canyon behind, pass through quaint towns and stop by Kiahuna Plantation for lunch at Joe's on the Green, an open-air restaurant in a casual, clubhouse setting with a large menu. Continue on to Spouting Horn, a natural wonder is formed by seawater rushing under the lava shelf and bursting through a small hole in the surface.

Complete the adventure with a scenic cruise up the Wailua River, the only navigable river in Hawaii. The open-air boat offers unobstructed views of the lush, tropical landscape that hugs the river’s edge. Once at the Fern Grotto, be amazed at the natural lava-rock, lush with hanging ferns and misting waterfalls.

If you are lucky enough for clear skies, the view is breath taking. This does get a lot if rain every year and there are often clouds that can obscure the canyon. So worth the attempt at any rate.

I could have just driven to that place. Our tour guide was boring. We parked and waited more than we travelled Wailua river tour was a very short boat riide to a cave grotto, just enough to take pictures and then back.

Loved our tour guide/ bus driver Sam. So entertaining and lots of knowledge about everything, not just the tour related things. Great experience.
