Sunrise Tour to Haleakala Volcano

by Polynesian Adventure Tours - Gray Line Hawaii Duration 9h Free cancellation available No booking or credit card fees
per adult Price is $177

Set out for an early morning island excursion with a sunrise tour to the peak of Haleakala, Maui's sleeping volcano. Travel by van to the 10,023-foot (3,055-m) summit to experience Haleakala National Park at dawn, and take in sweeping island vistas from the Pu'u Ula'ula Overlook.

After your pre-dawn hotel pickup, energize with coffee and pastries as you make your way to Haleakala National Park, where you ascend 38 miles (61 km) to the top of Haleakala, known in ancient Hawaiian as “House of the Sun.” Listen to your guide recount local Hawaiian legends and myths surrounding the volcano.

Once at the summit, catch the sun as it peeks over the horizon, offering you a mesmerizing sunrise scene. Oranges, yellows, and blues collide to create a kaleidoscope of color that lights up the whole island, including the Big Island in the distance.

At the Pu'u Ula'ula Overlook, admire the stunning panoramas of the lava fields, and peer down the 3,000-foot (914-me) drop into Haleakala's cavernous crater. While you explore, keep your eyes peeled for silversword, a spherical, silver-haired plant only found on the island of Maui at elevations above 6,900 feet (2,103 m).

Take a moment to stop by the Visitor's Center and marvel at the surrounding natural beauty as you descend Haleakala to enjoy a full breakfast at 1 of Maui's restaurants.

It was a great experience, only thing is the tour picked us up at 2:30 am but actually tour started at 4 AM, we waited almost an hour in a shopping parking lot!

You do not really want to drive the unknown winding and steep road in the total darkness to get to the summit for a sunrise. So the tour with the guide driver who knows the road well is a good idea. All was very well organized and we got lots of interesting info. We had also tasty buns and at the end a restaurant breakfast. Pleasant and relaxing experience even if you were required to get up before 4 am. If anyone is set on seeing the Sunrise at Haleakala, this is a way to go.
