Evening Volcano Explorer From Hilo

by Kapohokine Adventures. Duration 7h 30m Free cancellation available No booking or credit card fees
per adult Price is $187

The original volcano lovers tour. Start with a drive through quaint Hilo town where you’ll drive along the historic waterfront before heading out to the old fishing village of Kalapana. Your National Park Service certified guide will discuss the volcanology, geology, and history of Kilauea volcano, as well as providing in-depth narration on the various lava flows and flora and fauna that you’ll be passing by. Kalapana was destroyed by lava, as was the adjacent beach, Kaimu. Hike out across the lava flow to the new black sand beach. Stop by Star of the Sea Painted Church. Moved by the community twice to save it from advancing lava flows in 1990, this decommissioned church is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Next travel to the crown jewel of Hawaii, Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. Visit the Kilauea Visitor’s Center, the Kilauea Iki Crater Overlook, and Steaming Bluffs. Stop in at the famous Volcano House for incredible views of Kilauea Caldera, and hike to the cracks and sinkholes in the paved roads left behind by the historic eruption of 2018. Then it’s on to the famous Volcano Winery, the southernmost winery in the United States. You’ll sample up to eight different types of wines, varying from sweet to dry, and all with a unique Hawaiian flare. The Volcano Winery also has estate grown teas to taste and soft drinks and water are also included. After sampling beverages, you’ll enjoy a hearty Hawaiian-style BBQ lunch with a complimentary glass of your choice of Volcano Winery wine or other beverage.

5 out of 5

This is an amazing adventure with incredibly enjoyable guide. Jeff filled us in with history and interesting stories about the island. The dinner at the end was delicious. I took my 87 year old Mother and Jeff looked out for her all the time. He kept the pace at something she could handle. This is a 5 star experience.

It’s a full day of great experiences and exploration of the island! You get to see and do a lot! Also the tour guide (Henry) is very knowledgeable of the island and it’s history! If you are staying on Hilo, ask for tips on dinners and other worthwhile places to visit! Worth it!
