Description

Aboriginal history and natural beauty provide a spectacular backdrop for this 2-day tour of northern Australia. See ancient rock paintings in Kakadu National Park, take a cruise along the Yellow Water Billabong, and ride a 4x4 into the bush to explore the spectacular scenery of the Mikinj Valley.

Day 1:
Take a ride through the Marrakai Plains and head deep into Kakadu National Park, home to a wide selection of native wildlife and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Take a guided walk to view the rock art at Burrunggui, an outcropping once known as Nourlangie Rock that features some of the most famous Aboriginal paintings in the park.

After lunch, take the famous cruise along the Yellow Water Billabong to observe saltwater crocodiles and the area's colorful bird life. You can then visit the Warradjan Aboriginal Cultural Centre and view the informative displays, or buy a seat for a 50-minute flight over Kakadu.

Day 2:
Your second morning starts early as a 4-wheel-drive vehicle carries you into Arnhem Land and the Mikinj Valley, passing through the spectacular scenery of sandstone outcrops, escarpments, forests, and floodplains. Learn about traditional land ownership, bush skills, and bushfood, and see more examples of Aboriginal rock art in its natural state.

Most tours are accompanied by an Aboriginal guide, whom you can ask for a unique insight into the land and the millennia of history and culture within it. Your experience comes to an end with a short break after your return to Darwin.
