Fly to Tri-Cities Regional Airport

Tri-Cities serves business and leisure visitors to north-eastern Tennessee and is named for Kingsport, Johnson City and the twin cities of Bristol TN/Bristol VA. The airport itself is centrally located near Blountville, a historic stagecoach rest point for west-bound travelers. Today, the local trails and Appalachian scenery keep the visitors coming.

Novice cavers are welcomed at Appalachian Caverns Tours, where experienced guides will talk you through underground limestone galleries, featuring ancient stalactites and stalagmites.

Bristol is known as the Birthplace of Country Music, and is also home to a NASCAR circuit. Kingsport is a thriving town with some good nightlife, including the Shack, a BBQ spot on Fort Henry Drive that hosts live music and DJ's. Johnson City is home to the Little Chicago Blues Festival each spring. All three towns make a good base for exploring the Cherokee National Forest to the south.

Getting around

Once your flight arrives at Tri-Cities Airport (TRI) you can make your way into Bristol. Visitors can choose between car rental, taxis, buses, limousine, or shuttle services when exiting the airport.

Hints and tips

Blountville itself is a good base for both wine tours and trips to the Appalachian Caverns. Countryside Vineyards, on Henry Harr Road, produces both well-known wines including Chardonnay as well as more experimental types - blackberry, for example.
