So often these days, we arrive in a new destination and hit the ground running, trying desperately to check off a whole host of\u00a0 “must-see” items in the short time we’re there. (We’re looking at you San Francisco, Chicago and New York!) But sometimes, it’s nice just to pick a chill city where you can wander and explore without an agenda. Here are 10 fabulous cities that are less about coming up with a massive “to do” list and more about simple pleasures like strolling a shop-filled downtown, hitting up a craft brewery and relaxing in a park.<\/div>\n

Providence, RI<\/strong><\/h2>\n

The Ocean State capital oozes New England charm. One of the oldest cities in country, Providence is filled with historic streets and waterfront walkways ideal for long leisurely strolls. You can meander around the scholarly grounds of Brown University<\/strong> or pop into the Providence Athenaeum<\/strong> to peruse the library shelves much like Edgar Alan Poe used to do. Choose\u00a0The Dean Hotel<\/strong><\/a> as your home base, you’ll be right in the heart of the city with the Providence Place Mall<\/strong> and Performing Arts Center<\/strong> just a couple blocks away. Get the treats to go and enjoy them on a walk around Lake of the Isles<\/strong>\u2014you are in the Land of 10,000 Lakes after all. San Antonio’s coolest attribute is The Riverwalk<\/strong> which snakes through the city. Follow it all the way to the hip Pearl District<\/strong>, or hop on a water taxi to zip around town via the San Antonio River. And don’t forget to wander over to the Alamo<\/strong>. The historic landmark marks the pivotal battle point in Texas’ independence from Mexico in 1836. Beyond the Alamo, though, there are numerous other beautiful Spanish Missions in the area that are well worth checking out. Hotel Emma <\/a><\/strong>is definitely the chicest spot to rest your head. There’s way more to this college town than cheese curds and craft beer. Nestled in between Lake Mendota and Lake Monona, there’s a strong outdoor culture associated with this state capital. Walk the lake shores or bike along one of the many trails to really get a sense of the city. Afterward, reward yourself with a beer at Ale Asylum Brewery<\/strong> and proper Wisconsin curds at The Old Fashioned<\/strong>. This a brewing town, so don’t let the beer tasting stop there. Other great breweries that you can hit up at your leisure include Karben4 Brewing<\/strong>, One Barrel Brewing<\/strong>, Funk Factory Guezeria<\/strong>, and Untitled Art<\/strong>. Come springtime, the city’s food festival scene starts to heat up.
