From \u201csilent hours\u201d to silent meals, hotels are finding unique ways to encourage guests to unplug from the 24-7 noise of the world\u2014if only for an hour or two\u2014and embrace the literal\u00a0and<\/em>\u00a0digital silence essential to\u00a0our\u00a0health.<\/p>\n

In fact, a recent Duke University study found that daily silence promotes\u00a0significant cell development in\u00a0the part\u00a0of the brain responsible for memory. This can combat\u00a0the\u00a0\u201cdigital dementia\u201d (short-term memory loss) on the rise in our culture of technology dependence. (We’re looking at you, smartphone.)<\/p>\n
