The New Properties Keep Opening<\/strong>: The number of new <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.orbitz.com\/App\/ViewHotelSearch\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"Orbitz hotels\">hotels<\/a><\/strong> opening would be overwhelming even if the economy were still roaring along. Now it just seems, well, chaotic. But here we go. <\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Hilton has opened a new 175-suite <strong>Embassy Suites in Brooklyn Center, Minnesota<\/strong>, and a 135-room <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.orbitz.com\/App\/ViewSpecificHotelLP?masterId=306430\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"Hilton Garden Inn Chesapeake\/Suffolk\">Hilton Garden Inn in Suffolk, Virginia<\/a>.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Marriott has opened a 118-room <strong>Fairfield Inn in Schertz<\/strong>, in suburban San Antonio.<\/li>\n<li>Starwood has opened side-by-side properties in <strong>Arundel Mills, Maryland<\/strong>. One is a 147-room <strong>Element<\/strong> and the other is a 142-room <strong>Aloft hotel<\/strong>. It has also added a 91-room W Hotel in Doha, Qatar.<\/li>\n<li>Overseas, <strong>citizenM<\/strong>, a prefab, high-tech hotel concept, has opened its second property. The 215-room hotel in <strong>Amsterdam&#39;s financial district<\/strong> complements the original citizenM, located within walking distance of the passenger terminals at Amsterdam&#39;s Schiphol Airport.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Kempinski<\/strong> has opened a 98-room lakefront resort in the High Tatras Mountains of <strong>Slovakia<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Marriott<\/strong> has opened a 118-room <strong>Renaissance hotel in Paris<\/strong> near the Eiffel Tower.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><!--more--><br \/>\n<\/p>\n<p><strong>INTERNATIONAL AFFAIRS<\/strong><br \/><strong>Flu Panic Eases, But Mexico FlightsDisappear<\/strong>: The panic surrounding the H1N1 or swine-flu pandemic has eased, but U.S. carriers have bowed to the inevitable: Travelers have stopped flying to Mexico and <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.orbitz.com\/App\/PrepareFlightsTab\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"Flights and flight deals on Orbitz\">flights<\/a><\/strong> are largely empty.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.orbitz.com\/App\/GDDC?deal_id=air-continental-airlines\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"Continental Airlines on Orbitz\">Continental Airlines<\/a><\/strong>, for example, has slashed its Mexico capacity by 40 percent for the rest of the month.<\/li>\n<li><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.orbitz.com\/App\/GDDC?deal_id=air-us-airways\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"US Airways on Orbitz\">US Airways<\/a><\/strong> cut almost as much and extended the reductions through June.<\/li>\n<li>The cuts at <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.orbitz.com\/App\/GDDC?deal_id=air-united-airlines\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"United Airlines on Orbitz\">United Airlines<\/a><\/strong> ran to about two-thirds of its May flights and about half of its June runs.<\/li>\n<li>Other carriers, including<strong> JetBlue<\/strong>, <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.orbitz.com\/App\/GDDC?deal_id=air-american-airlines\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"American Airlines on Orbitz\">American Airlines<\/a><\/strong> and <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.orbitz.com\/App\/GDDC?deal_id=air-delta-airlines\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"Delta Air Lines on Orbitz\">Delta Air Lines<\/a><\/strong>, made big cuts, too.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>In other news,<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Air Europa<\/strong> adds a weekly flight between <strong>Miamiand Tenerife in the Canary Islands<\/strong> on June 20. The flights will operate with Airbus A330-200s configured with 24 business-class and 275 coach seats.<\/li>\n<li>Delta&#39;s big international hub at New York\/Kennedy will get still another route. Four weekly flights to <strong>Valencia, Spain<\/strong>, begin on June 5.<\/li>\n<li>On October 1, <strong>JetBlue Airways<\/strong> adds daily flights between its hub at <strong>New York\/Kennedy and<\/strong> <strong>Barbados<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>NEED TO KNOW<\/strong><br \/>On-the-Road Intelligence to Help You Travel Smarter:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Southwest Airlines<\/strong> fliers take note: The carrier&#39;s legendarily bad in-flight coffee may be a thing of the past. The airline now serves Lift, a dark-roasted, 100-percent Arabica blend of South and Central American beans. And here&#39;s the big news: Southwest has finally abandoned the powdered creamer and now serves a liquid creamer.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Avis<\/strong> renters in Europe take note: Avis Europe has begun charging a 40 euro or 40 British pound penalty for no-shows who don&#39;t cancel their bookings.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Air Fiji<\/strong> has closed.<\/li>\n<li>Waiting for that long-promised <strong>new in-flight entertainment<\/strong> system on <strong>US Airways<\/strong>? Forget it. The airline that is always first with the least has decided it won&#39;t install the system, which it has been testing on a single Airbus A320. The airline told employees that it couldn&#39;t raise financing for the installation.<\/li>\n<li>Airlines may be ramping up service to Tel Aviv, but travel to Israel is plummeting. Overnight stays in the first quarter of the year were down 26 percent.<\/li>\n<li>After trying to bury the data, the <strong>Federal Aviation Administration<\/strong> released its statistics on <strong>bird strikes<\/strong> and the numbers are chilling. Bird strikes more than quadrupled in 2007 compared to 1990.
